My Favorite NYC Bar

by acrocksyo

I love this bar. I found it randomly when I was with my friends after he got out of school. The place is great, true it does get a little crowded on the weekends, but I have never found the seating situation to be a problem. The bartenders are great, and the drinks are reasonably priced. I haven't been for Happy Hour yet, but I heard they have great deals. If you want a fun bar in the East Village I suggest this place.

  • Pros: Great Location, Friendly Bartenders
  • Cons: Sometimes It Can Get Crowded

Nice Neighborhood place

by yukster11

Stopped by on a Sunday Late Afternoon for a drink. It's not a very big place with low ceilings and two tv's located in each corner of the bar and an electronic dart board. They have numerous happy hour specials advertised, but the prices didn't seem to be much lower than normal. A bottle of Coors Light was $4.00 and I got a buyback on my 4th round. Nice laidback place to stop in for a drink.

Love this place!

by bourbonbelly

Cheap drinks, great specials. This place is never overcrowded and all the bartenders are friendly and fantastic. I started coming for the electronic dart board in the back. Some people would never think to play on an electronic board but this one is really good and I've had so many fun games there. This is a great nieghborhood and attracts a good, fun clientele.

  • Pros: Dart board! cheap drinks
  • Cons: narrow space

Slainte! (pronounced SLAWN-cheh)

Slainte! Traditional Irish toast; translation

To Your Health.

Thirsty Scholar. Traditional Irish Pub of impeccable service and quality; translates into good times.

Frequented this bar enough to know of its reasonable happy hour, its buffet of simple yet worthy bar food, the pleasant assortment of music and its dart board set up in back for those aficionados however, the most important and endearing quality behind this quaint little establishment is by far its invaluable staff of barkeeps who remember if not your name, at least your drink each and every time you return. Crowd is a comfortably diverse group all with one common goal of kicking back and enjoying a few amongst friends. Music and ambiance is cool and alive yet controlled enough to carry a conversation. Drop in for a few, Trish, Pete and Decs will be waiting to greet you with warm hearts and high spirits.

  • Pros: best bartenders, no chintzy drinks, $ good value

Neighborhood pub offers a pleasant respite from the usual East Village crowds.

by Contributor

Despite its location on a busy strip of Second Avenue, the pub is tucked away from the throngs of bar-hoppers, making it a suitable place to chill out with a pint. Warm brick walls flank the long, narrow space. The dartboard in the back and a hot toddy in winter attract a crowd of regulars. The happy-hour buffet, served from 5pm to 8pm, isn't usually complicated (i.e., chili and rice), but it is free.

The Revival!

by peegs

The neighborhood seemed to go out of favor for a while but it seems to be back in full force. This place has great music, service, hearty drinks, and a buffet that has gone above the ordinary(i.e.-fetticini carbonara), but the draw in this place is the people who come here, the crowd is diverse, interesting, and just plain fun!!!

  • Pros: Declan, Trish, Pete
  • Cons: , smoking outside

Best Bar Around

by DiRN

I've been going to the Thirsty Scholar regularly for the past few months. I've gotten to know everyone who works there as well as many of the other regulars. I don't know of a better group of people anywhere in the city.

QUENCH YOUR THIRST HERE

by anirtak915

where do i begin? the appropriate name (being students) caught our attention, but we had no idea what we were getting into. this is hands down my favorite bar in manhattan. incredible music, unbeatable drinks (but beware...they have quite the heavy hand here), extremely friendly bartenders and bouncers. good crowds, young and old, always. this place is highly recommended any day of the week, although the weekend (thursday through sunday night) is the most fun.

  • Pros: inexpensive, friendly people, great atmosphere
  • Cons: there are NO cons
