Jose at Astor Place is the man to see if you want a great haircut. He has been cutting my hair for close to ten years, and he definitely knows what he is doing. As a lawyer, I want a cut that is stylish and also presentable in court – he always comes through. I also see him cutting and styling all types of hair – women, men, young, old, kids. Go see him, and you will not be disappointed. And while you’re getting a cut, you can have a good conversation. Great hairstylist, good friend.

I have been going to Jose at Astor Place Hair for almost a year and a half. He does a terrific job and has never left me disappointed. He is aware of current styles and has a very good eye for what looks good on the individual. I highly highly recommend Jose. His cuts are better than some of the most expensive haircuts I've gotten in NYC. Two thumbs up!

Giovanni is the best stylist/barber in Astor. I have been going there for over 10 years now. It is always a great experience speaking to Giovanni. But the best part is I always have the best haircut. Giovanni takes his time but makes sure not to waste time. He doesn't smoke so I dont have to deal with that smell (which is very important to me). I def. suggest that if you are in the area you stop by and say hello to Giovanni. You get a great haircut and get to talk to a really interesting barber.

Rita At Astor Place Is The Best In the World! I travel the world and I go out of my way to come back to Rita. No where do you get this kind of expertise and I should know I have been every where and tried all of "the best" only to be disappointed. I was very lucky to find Rita and I have been a loyal customer since; she is very honest because when I first went to her my hair was damaged and she would not color or highlight until we did deep conditioning treatments and allowed my hair to heal. My highlights are exquisite and my hair is healthy & gorgeous; I can only thank Rita and feel fortunate enough to have a real pro I can trust with my hair. Thank you Rita.

I feel so lucky to have found a stylist in the City who does everything I need extremely well! I have been going to Rita at Astor Place for the past 8 months or so and she is quite simply the BEST I have ever been to. This girl knows hair - Her cuts are cutting edge and her expertise at color and highlights is simply amazing! Two weeks ago she gave me the most gorgeous highlights you have ever seen! I walked into work the next day and everyone needed to know where I go to get my hair done. If you read her many positive reviews here at City Search you will see she has many, many happy clients and rightfully so. She is truly as good as it gets. Rita is also friendly and very passionate about her work. She makes you feel incredible when you are in her chair and she works her magic. You will definitely laugh too - she is very funny! She also gives you great advice and tips on taking care of your hair and what products to buy. If you are looking for a top notch and reasonably priced stylist, look no further. Rita at Astor Place is your girl! I would recommend calling for an appointment because she seems to be very busy these days. I know I will be going back again and again to her...and all my friends too.

After reading all the raving reviews, I made an appointment with Rita for cut and color. I expected a dive, and trust me, it is a dive. I waited 15 minutes after arriving on time as she was working on someone else. She didn't want to do my hair color so she cut my hair and sent me to see someone else. I waited 40 minutes as that hairdresser was working with another client. After she washed the color out of my hair she had me wait another 20 minutes while she finished her other client. The haircut was ok. I am less than thrilled. I have definitely had way better and more flattering cuts in which the stylist took more time to determine lifestyle, likes/dislikes (regarding hairstyles), etc. The worst part was that I ended up with a color I specifically said I did not want. Now I will need to purchase a toner and see if I can fix this. Personally, I could have colored my hair and done a better job myself, but I wanted a nice experience and change to uplift my spirits; neither of which I received. This salon has a reputation for being reasonable, but I am unsure reasonable compared to what? For what this costs me, I have gotten the same services in a very upscale salon for less! If you do choose to go here, keep in mind, they only take cash and the ladies at the front desk do not answer your questions.

Cons: Expensive, Do not take Credit Cards, Surly Staff, Don't get what you request

Jose is absolutely the best! I found out about Astor through Citysearch and decided to give it a try, and let me tell you I don’t regret it. I’ve been going to Jose for over a year now and I wouldn’t think of going to anyone else. He is very patient and knows his stuff. He really listens to what you want and talks to you throughout the haircut to make sure you get exactly what you want. You won’t be disappointed, call and ask for Jose today!!

I am a woman in the corporate world who found Rita at Astor Place purely by chance - and am I glad I did! I was spending way too much money at high priced salons for average haircuts and bland highlights. Rita has transformed my look by giving me she likes to call her "sunkissed highlights"... and a killer updated haircut to boot. I literally look like I have been on vacation - my hair unbelievably healthy, shiny and new! Also, my new-found confidence has been through the roof and I even scored a new promotion I had been after! I am feeling and looking better than I have in years. Rita also gave me great hair, skin care and makeup tips that have also worked wonders for me. Thank you Rita, you have another client for life!

WORST HAIR CUT EVER BY IRMA. Irma was unprofessional (left me sitting in a chair for five minutes while she cleaned up, put things away, then left me standing there while she argued about some bill with a co-worker), she doused my head with water so she could charge me extra for drying my hair, when I think a spray bottle would have sufficed. I don't know much about haircutting, but even I know when you ask for a one-inch trim and you have layers, you don't just start chopping without dividing the hair into sections, which is what she did. Somehow one inch turned into about a 6-inch "trim". Then I said, um, I wanted a trim, and I had layers, so can you trim the shorter layers? Without even ASKING where I wanted the layers to start, she started hacking away half-way up my head with a razor. She didn't look at my hair dry to see what it looked like, see where the layers were. She did not even remotely listen to what I said. My hair is BUTCHERED, and now I have to go get another fix-it cut. It looks like a four-year old cut it--there is a HUGE chunk of layer--it looks like a two-tier cake in the back. Nothing gradual or blended about the layers. Worst haircut EVER, and she charged me as much as my UES hairstylist does. DO NOT GO TO IRMA. The receptionist there was rude as well--it would have really inconvenienced her to smile and say, thank you.

RITA IS THE ANGEL & STAR OF ASTOR PLACE & A BEAUTY!! Rita is truly amazing; she is really talented, smart, funny and she will make you feel like a star in her chair! Also, she is hot!! I do not want to be disrespectful but I should know and I want to be completely honest! She colors and highlights mens hair too! WHY GO TO ANYONE ELSE WHEN YOU CAN GET THE BEST HAIR STYLE, GREAT TREATMENT & THE BEST VIEW FROM RITA!! :)

Pros: Rita is the only one for me!
