Sure recipe for a great time !

This place is pretty fun. It has a lot of character to it which I like. The bartenders are just great and so is the music! There is an amazing outdoor terrace perfect for warmer days or when you just don’t feel like leaving your drink when you need to take a drag. The upstairs lounge is very is full of couches and is very comfy, just right for a more intimate gathering.
- Pros: Everything!
- Cons: None
chill

Nice place to hang out with couch surfers :) and close to Union Square. Drinks are ok and the 2nd floor is good to chill...
An metonym for lame Union Square bars

Tacky staff, sloppy bartenders. The kind of place where frat guys go to slum, or think that they are. The upstairs could be nice, but it's all open and not a lot of places to sit. The music seems to be be a bartender's ipod, so get ready for a lot of I-just-graduated-from-college tunes. Skip this place!

Thursdays are special
by drink_club1 at Citysearch
REVIVAL could be a rather ordinary bar. The $5 beers are normal New York prices. The two levels, no food, are grungy enough to ALMOST make a dive bar. The prices keep it from being one.
But on Thursday nights, REVIVAL is something special. It's host to COUCH SURFERS. For those who don't know, Couch Surfers are people who travel and don't stay in hotels... they stay on people's couches. So on Thursdays, chances are you'll meet people from dozens of countries and as many states. We hung out with Mexicans, Frenchmen, and Ukrainians... as well as our own Japanese and Korean folks. You'll also meet New Yorkers who HOST couch surfers.
While the people vary in gender and national origin, they don't vary nearly as much in age. The crew seems pretty solidly packed in the 25-35 year old range.
You'll have to be bold to meet people. It's pretty cliquish. People will be friendly enough if you introduce yourself, but don't expect them to go up to you and start a conversation. This is, after all, New York. --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC drinkers
- Pros: international, interesting people
- Cons: beer too pricey to be a real dive
Terrible
by yukster11 at Citysearch
Stopped by during happy hour for a drink but this bar turned out to be a waste of time. They advertised a happy hour from 4-7. A bottle of Bud Light was $4.00. A draft of Bud Light (which tasted terrible) was $4.00. Not exactly happy hour prices. The bartender appeared to be a slick-talking conman. What's that? The bathrooms were in terrible condition. Plenty of other alternatives in the area.
Have to Agree, Awesome Place

There are so many places nearby Irving Plaza that this little hole in the wall is often overlooked even though it is far superior to all other bars in the area. Hell there's even an irish bar directly next door.
My only complaint is the name is impossible to remember... so save it to your my Citysearch otherwise you will say "Oh, lets meet at that bar near Irving, you know the one with the outdoor area and the plush cushions upstairs... you know?" and yes I speak from experience.
Just a damn good bar!

This is just a great no-nonsense bar! No college drinkers like the bar next door andno snooty people like the bar on the street. I usually go to Revival before and after Irving Plaza shows and I have never been disapointed. It's fun a fun bar with a great vibe.
They just started a new Thursday promotion that I LOVE. Ipod night! You sign up and they play your Ipod...pretty cool.
They also have a garden that blocks the wind - so I can smoke to my heart's discontent!
great for birthdays!

While Revival can get crowded, the upstairs lounge-like area is phenomenal, and the back yard garden can't be beat! They have no food, but the drinks are reasonably priced for a Union Square bar, and the bartenders are friendly and know what they're doing. It isn't hipster death-hell there, and you can kick the NYU freshmen heading to Shades of Green next door out of the way pretty easily.
Fab bar

What a great place to spend a friday night - friendly bar staff and a place to sit at the bar (if i'd made it upstairs then I would have seen the sofa's and probably fallen asleep there).
Obviously it great that they helped us order take-away pizza, and when the time came, phoned the local store and got redbull delivered.
Can't recommend it enough. Top place.
- Pros: great bar staff, friendly crowd, relaxed atmosphere
