if you try it you don't return there

The staff was really rude, just a smile at the arrival when requesting credit card, even a mere good morning or good night was not easy to get when meeting someone at the lobby. The breakfast was ridiculous for a so-called 4-star hotel, a few bagels and muffins (medium-low quality) and nothing more, one morning 30 minutes before breakfast ended, there was practically nothing left, but the prepaid amount was not refunded. The room was pretty spacious, but not well cleaned and evident traces of old (not removed) dust were present in many points (curtains, corners, etc.). The a/c equipment was an interesting piece of industrial archeology, pretty rusty and noisy during the night. Very low price/quality ratio, I would not recommend it.
- Pros: hotel position, wide room
- Cons: rude staff, poor breakfast, old facilities, dirtiness
I wanna go back!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Exchange hotel. The rooms were spacious and the beds were so comfortable. I had an overnight stay to celebrate my birthday in the city and the staff was so helpful and friendly, and very accommodating! I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is going to visit NYC, you would have a wonderful experience and would want to come back, I know I would want to go back!
A gem hidden way downtown

I have stayed at the Exchange hotel both before and after the renovation of the property. The hotel is now a completely different entity than the previous reviews reflect. Prior to renovation the strengths of the hotel were the courteous staff and unique location. Post renovation I can not recommend this property enough. The staff is amazing and the rooms are nothing short of elegant and delightful.
There is no room service available until the completion of the restaurant, but there is a cozy lounge; perfect for happy hour. Cabs are plentiful in the neighborhood and most trains are available within a short walk of the hotel. I found retaurants and cafes nearby and a lovely 24 hour grocery that delivers.
My room had a full kitchen, wireless internet acess, two flat screen televisions, and an asian inspired decor. The room was fresh, extremely large, uncluttered and immaculately clean. I can not reccommend this hotel enough. As boutique hotels become more popular and plentiful this hotel is well within it's rights to claim that they are setting a standard for affordable, sophisticated accomodations in downtown Manhattan.
- Pros: location, decor, staff, price, easy access to any neighborhood
- Cons: quiet neighborhood if you are looking for "New York action"
Charming lodgings straddling business and pleasure.

The Scene
This early-1900s property is located near Wall Street and the South Street Seaport--a small network of mostly pedestrian, cobbled streets that surround the Fulton Market. The area's atmosphere feels more New England than New York City, thanks to the area's salt-of-the-earth Italian seafood restaurants, intentionally gritty warehouses and often brisk, windswept air. If you're looking for a Manhattan stay in less-than-conventional surroundings, this is the place.
The Details
Dwarfed by downtown skyscrapers to the south, this relatively small property is cozy. As for the rooms, they're bigger than usual and come with couches and sizeable desk areas. Suites have fully stocked kitchens. Services are above the norm, including valet laundry, dry-cleaning and complimentary continental breakfast and daily newspaper delivery.
Good location, great value.

Our room was large, comfortable and clean, staff were very helpful, and the Japanese restaurant downstairs is very authentic and wonderful. Don't book if you want pretentious luxury. Parking may be a problem, but the subway is close and convenient. We'll stay there again and have recommended it to many.
- Pros: reasonably priced, clean, rooms have character
- Cons: parking
You get what you pay for

After seeing the photos on the website I thought we were getting a great deal. The rooms looked spacious and charming. Was I ever wrong! First of all, the hotel is in the financial district, which is not the best area for entertainment. We had to walk nearly five blocks just to catch a cab to get out of the area. Parking was inconvenient and expensive, even for Manhattan. As for gorgeous views? Our non-smoking suite reeked of cigarettes and faced the back of a wall. The customer service was absolutely HORRENDOUS! The front desk clerk was incredibly rude. The bellhop didnt bother to open the door and watched up drag our own bags through the lobby. However, the rooms were very clean nevertheless there are much better hotels in Soho for the same price.
- Pros: HORRIBLE service, Inconvenient Parking, No amenities
- Cons: , Clean
great deal

Not a fancy mid town hotel but clean, and accommodating. Good proximity to all subways and lots of area sights. Hook this up with one of the many hotel discounts and you have a deal that is hard to beat.
