Delightful Dining Experience
by MissBonafide
Went to Roy's for a birthday celebration and even though we had a res for 7pm for a party of 10, they did not give away our reservation even though we were not ready until about 7:50. Overall the service was excellent and the staff was accommodationg. The food was good and and the presentation was excellent. The drinks were good as well. I would reccommend the restaurant and I would go back myself.
- Pros: Very tasty food, excellent service
- Cons: Not very romantic
Leave the gun, take the appetizers
by frognsnails
A while back, work in wallstreet, I used to go to Roys frequently after work for drinks with the guys.
Don't get me wrong, the dinner there is pretty good, but you're missing the fun of having apps and drinks the bar. Every once in a while you would run into a talking head on CNBC. Good times.
So what to get? The ribs, the sushi, and a good stiff mixed drink, Vodka with a twist.
Forget the hotel part-it's beautiful and the food is worth the schlep

Hadn't been there since I worked at 2 World and was happy to go back. As good, or better than I remembered it. Chicken spring rolls are best in class, but put their sauce on them, and they transcend appetizers. Had the salmon and a taste of my friend's sampler platter and, even though I'm not a big fish eater, I'd get those selections again.
- Pros: Quality of food, ambiance
- Cons: inconvenience
So so Overall, you can do better in NYC
by mc250
I went here recently with my boyfriend, we were seated promptly, the service was very good and the drinks were tasty. The main problem I had was with the food itself. I had the shutome, the overall taste of the dish was so so, not bad but not good either. My boyfriend's dish was a bit tastier, though again, not great. With so many dining options in NYC around this price, I will spend my money elsewhere and not eat at Roy's again. A good service experience overshadowed by lackluster food.
- Pros: Very good service
- Cons: Food was ok but not great.
Something Fishy
by bianco_della_neve
I would have to say the food was very good, but then I got sick on it! Since it was the only thing I had that day, it couldn't have been anything else. I had the Mahi Mahi and the Tiramisu cheesecake. Who knows which it could have been. Hate the decor too.
- Pros: Great Menu, Not too busy, Great Staff
- Cons: Got totally sick on it!
The Most Underrated Place in NYC
by d0orman
I love this place. I was first introduced to this place when I first started working on Wall Street and I could not believe that I never heard of this place before. The food (mostly Hawaiian I believe) is great. I love seafood and their seafood is amazing. However, the pork and the "grilled meatloaf" are both great. Also, their chocolate souffle is not so bad itself. The only problem with the place is that it is in the middle of nowhere all the way downtown on the west side (sorry if you live there). However, because of this the place always seems to have reservations. At lunch they are busier with the brokers and lawyers at the tables. They are supposed to have a great wine list, though I personally never tried. I sound like a Roy's infomercial, but it really is my favorite restaurant in NYC.
- Pros: Amazing Food
- Cons: Somewhat Expensive
excellent food and value

I've been to Roy's in Hawaii and Florida a few times before. The food at the nyc location was just as exceptional. Moreover, the food is unique in both the array of fish offered and the fusion preparations. Where else can you get this stuff but the defunct Trader Vic's? The portion sizes are extremely generous which is a nice change for nyc, and the prices very reasonable. The Halekula roll compared favorably to something at Nobu. This place rules. Be warned though that this is technically in the Marriott Hotel and it does have that whiff of a hotel restaurant which did impact my enjoyment of the meal on some level. It should also be said that the service was excellent too.
- Cons: its in a hotel
Mahalo Roy's!!!!
by Martrese
My husband & I dined here for Restaurant Week at the recomendation of friends who had eaten here before. . .what a super meal! No, the decor isn't particularly "Hawaiian" but the atmosphere is very low-lit and relaxing. We enjoyed the food, ambiance and impeccable service so much that we came back to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had an equally wonderful experience. The appetizer "Roy's Canoe" is a stupendous sampler and the macadamia nut-encrusted mahimahi was just delicious. We're glad to live nearby - we'll return again!
- Pros: Very romantic, delicious food, great service
You can do better elsewhere
by pixieray
Although I had read the superb reviews on this site, my friends and I were all disappointed. When we ordered the wine, they brought us the wrong vintage. After telling our waiter, he brought the manager, who did nothing to fix the situation. He did not offer to bring us the right bottle and just left. This refusal to deal do the right thing is not acceptable for a restaurant like Roy's. Then there was yellow sediment on the bottom of our white wine. The sommelier said it was normal but offered to bring us another glass if it bothered us. One of my friends wanted a different glass, but she never brought her anything. The service was manipulative and snotty in their pretense of being friendly, but they are not really interested in making you happy. Though the food and ambience is good, you can do better elsewhere.
- Pros: Ambience
- Cons: Unservicable service
A MUST!

I cannot stress the magnificence of this place once you find it. It's perfect if you have people you want to impress, a certain someone you want to spend quality time with, or friends you just want to hang with. The ambience and serving are welcoming. The food is divine: everything cooked and presented perfectly. And don't even think about leaving without having the fantastic, straight-from-the-oven chocolate souffle.
- Pros: Food, Service, Chocolate Souffle
- Cons: Location
