fun hangout spot with cheap drinks and $1 pool, skeeball, darts
by Chupichu at Citysearch
I love Ace bar. The drinks are very reasonably priced (though I've never made it here in time for happy hour) because the location is not the most accessible to those who don't live in the area...BUT they have 2 pool tables in the back, skee ball, and darts for $1 !!! it can get quite packed on the weekends but you'll meet some pretty interesting people...definitely not the most diverse nyc hangout spot
- Pros: reasonably priced drinks and games
- Cons: location
Not the place it used to be

A tramatizing experience at Ace prompted me to write this review, to inform all the other long time east villagers like me to avoid ace bar on the weekends at all costs! - unless of course you favor meat markets, a space so crowded you can barely move, and a barely legal crowd. This friendly dive bar has turned into a place that actually has a LINE out the front on saturday night, and now resembles a chuckie cheese more than a dive bar. Thinking this would be a great place to get a bunch of people together, I was sadly disappointed. I have to say the poor waittress tried her best, but the mob like crowd of jersey kids and nyu students left her powerless! I guess this just goes with the overall trend of my once beloved east village - yuppies and college kids. A sad night indeed. It's too bad, ace bar used to be really fun, but this was just horrible.
- Pros: it's big, but that didn't seem to make a difference
- Cons: lines, horrible crowd, packed
Looking for a no-frills hangout with a stellar jukebox and Skee-Ball on site? Ace is the place.

The glass brick exterior is a remnant of '80s bad taste, but happier memories of the era abound inside, where a custom-made bookcase displays over 100 vintage lunchboxes with nostalgic TV heroes like Scooby Doo and the Dukes of Hazard. Yet the overall vibe manages to be more classic than kitschy--dark wood lines the walls, and laid-back neighborhood folks drop quarters into a Simpons pinball machine while sipping a carefully poured pint or powerful Bloody Mary. Stocked with classic rock and up-to-the-minute indie tunes, the jukebox doesn't disappoint. Groups can settle comfortably into pew-like booths or make themselves at home in the spacious back room, equipped with ample seating, dart boards, a pool table, and famously, two Skee-Ball machines.
Great Birthday Spot

This is the perfect place to get a bunch of friends together. There are two pool tables, ski ball, and tons of big tables. If you have enough people you can totally take over the back room. You don't get any tickets when you play ski ball, so you can't trade them in for oversized bears or pop rocks, but it is fun nonetheless.
- Pros: ski ball, beer, pool, space
- Cons: no prizes
Cool Hangout!
by gpgary at Citysearch
Everything I expected it to be from other reviews. Definitly "Dive-y", but that generally makes for a very casual and VERY fun time. Games were crowded, but the wait wasn't long. Service was good, crowd Cool, and beer selection decent. I would absolutely go back to have some fun.
- Pros: Pretty quick bar service; Games
- Cons: none
Very Unique Place!

I organized an outing to Ace Bar for 20 people on Saturday night, and everybody LOVED it. We played skee ball and pool and pinball. We drank beer. We could actually have a conversation and there was space to move around. It was perfect! On top of that, I had spoken with very nice manager Lucy and her colleague Natasha beforehand, and they were so nice to reserve two tables for my group for us to put our coats down (and where our pregnant friend could sit). We were all so impressed and we'll definitely be back!

Skeeball!
by laurabama at Citysearch
Any bar with darts AND skeeball is good in my book. This is the ultimate East Village dive bar, with every game imaginable, good ambiance, angry bartenders, and enough seating for everyone. My favorite neighborhood bar.
- Pros: skeeball, darts, pool
- Cons: angsty bartenders, crowded weekends

Booze with games
by jackryan at Citysearch
This is a nice frills place man. Totally cool if you want to place some skee ball and pool. I'm up for the big buck hunter they've got. A lot of beers on tab, juke box for the tunes, and you can go dressed in whatever the you want.
Some guy there was dressed in a cow suit. Moooooooooooooooo Meat.
Party it up with the boys and yell at each other.
