The Karma Just Keeps Getting Better!
by newyorknancy at Citysearch
I didn't believe it was possible that the karma at Parlor could improve but in the past couple weeks every time I walk by that place it glows! Awesome service, top shelf service, attention to detail and the stylists and owner are the cream of the crop. Be gone bad energy!
- Pros: The warmest and coolest people work there!
- Cons: I wish they served drinks because with such great music and atmosphere I'd love to stay for awhile.
Colorist that left recently
by bayridgelea at Citysearch
The Parlor is a wonderful place I heard about through a friend at work. I went in for a color consult, and walked out looking magnificent! I was devastated when I heard abut his departure, and it took me a week of calling around to try and find him, there are a lot of salons in NY....
If you are curious about parlor, I would give it two thumbs up as a salon, even though the "highlight" for me is now gone. If you also used to see Hayden, I tracked him down at Salon Berardinis on 7th ave, I was glad to have found him I never had such a natural look to my highlights.
- Pros: lovely enviornment and professional staff
- Cons: my color guy left, Hayden
Wonderful Salon, Hayden Kings is a Fabulous Colorist!!
by Tilda at Citysearch
I am so glad I found my colorist, Hayden Kings. So glad to see him again, he recently moved to a new Chelsea location: De Berardinis at 155 W 21 Street, Ph. (212) 967-0927. And they are open on Sundays, so convenient!!
- Pros: Aveda Products and Great Staff
Nice space, people, and service - but not top notch
by ASD83 at Citysearch
I visited Parlor last winter for a single process with Gwen. After years with a colorist on Long Island, I figured it was high time that I actually get my hair colored by someone closer to home. Due to nerves, I figured my best bet was to book with the owner, since she's been in the business for years and, naturally, would be good at what she does. Gwen was such a sweetheart - really knowledgeable, offered me wine, which was AWESOME, and her assistant was a really nice guy. But overall, my service was just okay. The space is nice, the people are nice, but my hair turned out much darker than I wanted, I was not offered a glaze (which I think is key), and the blowdry the assistant gave me was atrocious. I decided not to go back mostly because I can't afford to pay extra $$ to have my color done by the owner, but also because I don't like the idea of an assistant doing my blowout and my colorist shuttling back and forth between clients. I wouldn't discourage others from coming here - they are such nice people and clearly passionate about what they do - I guess it just wasn't the place for me.
- Pros: Warm, welcoming salon.
- Cons: A bit pricey; service not as fantastic as I had hoped for.
staff is great, manager is a total dbag
by kimmyexlibris at Citysearch
the stylists are great at this place, and they always do a phenomenal job. however, the manager is an absolute dbag that takes himself so seriously. he dresses like a chump, and has no manners whatsoever. the guy is such a loser and it boggles my mind that the owner hired someone with no manners. all this being said, the rest of the place and staff is great.
- Pros: ambience, staff
- Cons: manager is a rude dbag
Thanks for finding Tina
by bigtinafan at Citysearch
I too have been going to Parlor for several years and seeing Tina and so was baffled when I heard she was no longer there, and even more baffled by the post by the owner. For those who've been going to Tina, you'll remember she was promoted two or three times while working there, so it's a shame to see the owner disparage her now that she has left. Thank you for letting Tina fans know she is now at Soon Salon. I'll be calling right away.
Tina F is the best stylist!
by erininthecity at Citysearch
My name is Erin Lucas and both me and my best friend Brooke Sherman have been clients of Tina F's for two years at Parlor. I was called by Parlor to let me know she had left and that would I like to reschedule my May 29th apt with Boswell or Katia. I love Palor for the ambience and because they use Aveda products but mainly for my stylist Tina F. I have fine curly hair and after visiting Tina I now know the value of a great cut. My friend Brooke Sherman who introduced me to Parlor and Tina has short hair and usually opts for something cutting edge/modern,while I opt for a more classic cut. Our hair may be very different but we both get amazing cuts. Parlor they did not tell me where Tina had gone but instead recomended Boswell or Katia. I have had Katia highlight my hair once before and she did a great job but I will stick with my usual stylist for my cut. By luck or by fate I ran into Tina F on W22nd st when I popped into Soon Salon for a blowout. She is now working there and I can't believe I found her. My husband think I am crazy when it comes to my hair but the man shaves his head. Anyway I just wanted to let other Tina Fans know and I was very disapointed by the disparaging remarks made by Parlor owner Gwenn below. It is very unfortunate and unprofessional. She claims Tina posed as Jenny so that is why I am using my actual name and Brooke's as we are listed in the Parlor database and are actual clients. Anyway Tina is great and I am glad to have found her at Soon Salon on W 22nd St between 5th and 6th Ave. Parlor is a great salon but I will now be following Tina wherever she goes!
- Pros: They use Aveda products and the salon is cute.
- Cons: It is not close to a main subway and Tina F has left!
Positive about Tina
by littlebaby at Citysearch
I don't understand what's going on here with the Tina comments. I went to her because she was the stylist of a friend who always looks great. Tina cut my hair twice and I was very happy with the results. In fact, just today I tried to make another appointment and learned she'd left Parlor. The receptionist said he didn't know where she'd gone, but if anyone does, perhaps you could post the information here?
SHAME ON YOU TINA... BAD BAD KARMA
by GwennLeMoine at Citysearch
I have over the years always seeked to hire talent and passion. There are only a few things more important to me at PARLOR than to be with people that have integrity and positive energy. It is embarrassing to be pulled down to such a petty level but the previous fake review (one of many sad to say) , via jenny (TINA incognito) is one of the many reasons she is no longer with Parlor. Tina made a habit of writing her own praises and it is too bad that CITYSEARCH can be manipulated in such a way.
As many of Parlor?s clients know we attract and retain ONLY the cream of the crop.
- Pros: passionate, talented, integrity
Exemplary customer service with a sincere, personal touch
by JCW2008 at Citysearch
I just saw J. Arrin for my color and cut, and he was simply amazing. From his firm handshake to his gentle manner, I knew that I would receive the kind of service I deserve. I wanted to go from dark brown to a lighter brown, but was afraid of looking garish. The end result was stunning. He walked me through the process, recommended products that ensure a long-lasting color, and even sent me a thank-you note! I will refer all of my friends to J. Arrin. And as for the salon itself, it feels so...warm. All the employees look happy to be there and even the manager at the front desk greeted me with a smile. I do not know who JenD from the previous review saw or where she went, but it was NOT Parlor and she must not have seen my new stylist-for-life, J. Arrin.
- Pros: Lovely space, lovely technician, even lovelier red wine!
- Cons: It is a trek from the train
