SERVICE SUCKS

by Pre

The 1st time I went to Slate I had a problem entering, the guy @ the front door didn't want to let my partner in because of his shirt but the guy in front of us had a book bag on and sneaker and walked in with no problem. After 15 minutes he finally let us in which only got worst. We went to the bar and stood there for 10 minutes before someone helped us. The bar tender stood there and said "oh I'm sorry i thought someone was helping you". The second time I reserved VIP with pool tables. Overall I had a good time beside the waitress flirting with my man. Delete her and it turned out to be a good night. The bathroom wasn't clean but when is it ever.

  • Pros: Drinks are good
  • Cons: service

I wish it were different.

by CSMobileUser2

I went to Slate last night, excited about the relaxed pool hall and dancefloor atmosphere. When I got there, there was no line, and me and my friends were ushered right inside...through a side entrance, down some stairs. We came to find out that the dancefloor wouldn't be opening until 1 AM or so because of a private party upstairs. Nothing on the website and no one at the door let us know this. After waiting for 30 minutes or so, I wanted to leave, and we (all 100 or so folks in the pool hall) were not allowed to exit. The private party was apparently on the exit floor. Men were shoved by guards as they attempted to exit, and finally the manager let folks leave if escorted out by the goons. All the while, a line began to form outside, and the bouncers wouldn't let any guys into a POOL HALL with sneakers. After the bar mitzvah left at 1:30 AM, we made it up the stairs...and the music was poor. Too many random songs and no flow whatsoever. We left after an hour and a half...totally disappointed.

very modern

by criticoneone

I liked that this is a place where you can eat, play pool, and listen to good music. The interior looks very nice. I do have to say that the bouncers are verrryy snappy and rude. Listen I understand that they are doing their job, but if you step somewhere you're not supposed to be, all hell breaks loose. They yell at you like you're an 8 year old. Other than that, we had a good time.

Worst bar in NYC, possibly the world

by 2880mkr

I've been to Slate several times for parties, each worse than the one before. First of all, you will always wait in line to get in, despite the fact that the place is huge and almost never full. Once you're inside, you're greeted with rude bouncers, and even ruder bartenders who seem to think they work at an upscale hotpspot. Don't expect quick, friendly, or even marginally competent service...you'll only be getting bartenders who get offended if you don't consider it an honor to be served your poorly made, overpriced, mostly-spilled-as-they-slam-the-glass-in-front-of you drink. Here for a private party? Expect to be shuttled to a tiny velvet rope pen and not allowed to leave. Need to use the bathroom? Good luck getting to it, as you have to navigate a maze of velvet ropes and bouncers blocking the tiny hallway to the bathroom. And don't you dare accidentally cross a velvet rope or stop moving for even a second, or you'll be yelled at by said bouncers. Once you get to the bathroom, expect it to be filthy, and out of toilet paper. Oh, and there's an attendant in there (doing what, no one knows, since there is trash everywhere and no toilet paper). In fact, I hope you like trash, spilled drinks, and broken glass, because it can be found all over the place. Wanna play pool? Sure, there are tons of tables! Just expect to to wait forever to get one, even though no one is playing. Also, it costs a lot and the tables are garbage. And I don't know if this happens often, but I was there on one Saturday night and at around 1:00 the DJ started winding things down and we were all basically kicked out by 2:00, even though the place should have been open until 4. I never stayed late enough the other times I went to see if this happened again.

So that's your basic crappy night at Slate. This place must only stay alive because of bridge and tunnel losers who wouldn't know a good lounge if it punched them in the face because they won't venture more that 2 blocks away from the PATH train. Slate is terrible. Never go here

  • Pros: waitstaff isn't terrible
  • Cons: basically everything you can think of

Great Spot for a Leisure Evening

by uesreview

Slate is a great spot to head when you're not up for a long line or cover charge with a group of friends or your special someone. This place has tons to offer- pool tables, foosball, ping-pong, comfy couches, and big screen t.v.s. On Fridays and Saturdays, upstairs offers a decent dance scene with a nice mix of music (hip hop, Top 40s, etc.)

Side Note: From experience...SLATE is a nice place to meet a blind date and chill for hours- if it's a good match... :-)

  • Pros: No cover; Nice Ambiance

In Need Of Hot Girls

by adonis1082

I went to slate on a friday night and requested bottle service to avoid the long line in the freezing cold, it still took forever to get in to a no cover door full of obnoxious bouncers, theres a mandatory coat check which i didnt mind because it had the hottest girls i ever seen in a venue checking coats which is a shame because it leads you to think the bartenders and cocktail servers will be even more appealing to the eye just to find out they have a bunch of dudes running the place, i had a good time overall besides the bumping into a shitload of B&T people and the only hot chicks hidden in a cave full of coats, next time i go there i want to see hot girls not a tall slanky euro boy serving me
