After reviewing pictures online, I took a chance in trying something new to host my birthday party. When I called and spoke with the receptionist/booker, she explained it was a mixed croud (Indians, Black, White, etc) , very loose environment that plays all the hits from the top 100. I was told there wasn't any dress code. When I get there, they reserved a table on the wrong floor. Refused some of my guest from entering, because they had on sneakers. At the same time my guest were refused to enter, there were several White men wearing sneakers allowed in. Hardly do I ever play the race card, but this was very obvious. Some of my guest that were allowed in, (black males) were criticized for what they wore when they were actually more presentable than the average male inside. I am not a thug, nor hang around those who conduct themselves as such. As a result, I was baffled by the level of ignorance from the security. In addition to the discrimination, one of my guest was approached on the street after he left because they thought he didn't pay his tab when he already did. On top of that, I was charged for four hours of pool and ping pong when I only played one hour on each. Although the ambiance and music was cool, there seem to be no real policy in place. Even after speaking to the Manager, it was still unclear. I understand the right to be selective, but this was utterly ridiculous. If you want to be exclusive, charge a cover so you don't have to over charge people and panic over making $ at the bar. Make it clear which audience you want to attract.

Pros: Food was good

Cons: Waiters, Security and staff were not on same page

Basic Procedures: 1. If you see a patron leaving the bathroom, ask him to "move it along" immediately. If said patron informs you that he has no where to go because your fellow bouncers are standing in his way and doing nothing of use, ask him to "move it along" again anyway. No patron will mess with your awesome black suit and sunglasses. 2. If your fellow bouncer has already asked a patron to move it along, and he has complied but is not moving quickly enough to your liking, tell him yourself to "move it along" immediately. At Slate Plus, our bouncers think for themselves. 3. If you are assigned to guard the downstairs entrance for a patron who has reserved the area for her birthday party, turn down anyone who is actually there for said party. Those people are clearly liars and are trying to fool you just to get into your awesome pool hall. At Slate Plus, our bouncers see right through people's tricks. 4. If you observe a patron walking up the stairs to our fine bar area, tell him to "get away from the stairs." He might not have been lingering there, but you know he was thinking about it. At Slate Plus, our bouncers are always a step ahead. 5. If you find yourself on the receiving end of intelligent criticism and complaint from patrons due to your ridiculous behavior and indoor sunglasses, and are too stupid to think of a rational reply back, just shake your head back and forth and resume your usual duty. They'll have no choice but to come back to you after realizing that their only other option is #^%!ing Porky's.

This place used to be all about pool and making the atmosphere for it ... back then it was great ... now all they care about is making a party .. and its very cheesy party .. very cheesy music .. and lame people ... the pool tables are notstraight or balanced and the sticks are mostly squed .... so how can this place call itself a pool hall? come on guys also i agree with the bouncers thing ... they are rude and think they own the planet ... they certainly need to go to big clubs and lounges to see that their place is not even on the same scale ... wake up people the only good thing here i would have to say is the waitresses ... they are polite and fast ... the food is not bad either .. but very expensive .. and the pool prices are also very expensive given the bad situation for the tables and the sticks!!! if you want to play a good game of pool .. this is not the place for you .. if you want just weird music .. and cheesy people .. then stay in

Pros: waitresses are fast and polite

Cons: everything else .. especially the condition of the pool tables, the sticks and the horrible bouncers

Slate isn't a usual destination for me, but my friend had her 30th birthday party there and we had a fantastic time. The private rooms can be reserved and are spacious. The food was good and so was the service. Everything was great until we got moved to another room mid-party... for Ashlee Simpson and her boyfriend. They did give us a free round of drinks for the inconvenience. Despite that little hiccup, I would go there again and would not hesitate to throw a party in one of their private rooms.

Pros: Big Private Rooms

Cons: Crowed in Bar Area

Very roomy and lots of space- even with a lot of people, it never looks packed. Good place for a b-day, had a good time, no need to buy bottles or make reservations. Only complaint were the bouncers. They try to act like tough guys, even when there is no one there. Showed up early when there was no line and asked us to get into a straight line before we can get inside. When we weren't standing in a perfect line, they would comment to please get back into our line. As soon as you walk in - they stop you and do not let you enter until you check your coat. There were other such instances throughout the night. Other than the bouncers being completely ridiculous- it was a good time.

Pros: Very roomy and not packed even on a Sat. night

Cons: Service

Slate is amazing. I go here atleast once a week to meet up with friends, sometimes for happy hour, sometimes on friday nights. The bartenders hook it up. I dance my butt off, the dj's make me not want to sit at the bar at all. I like when it gets busy, Slate is such a lively place to be. I've played pool a few times downstairs, but prefer to be upstairs. I also would like to say how great the food is. There is something about the way the food is made here, even though some of the menu items are staples, I just can't not eat when I go here. My friends all agree this is one of our favorite places to go! I would love to attend a party here, I've heard they are fun. I would love to be part of a behind the ropes crowd! I highly reccommend Slate to everyone who reads this, and I am always running my mouth telling other people to go there. So far I've introduced more than half of my friends to Slate, and everyone has had a good time when they went. GO TO SLATE!! ------------------------Lizzie

Pros: service, drinks, food

Cons: work gets in the way of my playing

Honestly, this club/lounge/bar sucked. The atomsphere was alright and the girls well if you like them thick and dark well its the place for you. The bouncers were by far the stupidest mother fuckers around and they have no sense of class at all. The bouncer said no smoking on my line, yet he was smoking, typical bouncer trying to keep his hold on power, yet he is just a bouncer with little impact on society. feel bad for him, not really.

Pros: Alcohol

Cons: Atmosphere, Bouncers
