The worst comedy club experience I have ever been to
by dj_kuz
Being a local Hells Kitchener, thought I would try out our local comedy club. What did we have to lose right? Please keep in mind that I have been to at least 10 comedy clubs in the city for reference
Here is a list of my experience:
Noise: Seemed like an out of control high school cafeteria. Noisy, rude, no control. Could barely hear the comedians. People seemed disinterested. Accoustics were terrible. Employees and people coming in and out at will. No control.
Crowd: Seemed to cater towards tourists and./or underage people.
Comedians: Only stayed for half of the show but they seemed terrible. Almost like an open mike night.
Drinks: The rum and coke and wine we had were so bad -- we could not drink them. Supposedly they don't have a full liquor license -- who knows.
Management: Supposedly the manager was in Israel and that's why it was chaotic. Are you kidding me? They gave us free tickets. Do you want them? For $40+ dollars, for just drinks -- you can have them.
I am not usually this negative but wanted to protect future patrons from this place. If you are not an underage person or tourist, it might be the worst experiece ever. It was so bad -- we had to walk out.
- Pros: ?
- Cons: Noise, people, management, comedians, environment
Terrible Service, Drinks a Rip Off!
by ezronamo
Well. The comedy was okay, for the most part, but the service was horrendous! The rude wait staff herded us in, restricted us from sitting in certain places, they were very curt when we asked when we could go in the theater and be seated. The cover was $15 per person, which is fine, gotta support comedians, but then there was a two drink minimum. A cranberry juice costs 4 bucks each (the cheapest thing on the menu).
Then during the last act the staff stood right in front of us as we were watching the comedian, told us to pay our check immediately, with cash, they arrogantly rushed us while we were trying to enjoy the last act. Then they HAD THE NERVE TO INCLUDE AN 18% GRATUITY on such terrible service and overpriced drink. There are better places to spend a buck for laughs, like one of the improv theaters (UCB, Magnet, PIT, etc).
- Pros: JARED STERN, is an excellent young comedian

Great Show, Great Deal, Amazing B-Day
by endoublejay
It was my 18th bday and we took a limo to the club for the 12am show. we got there a little early so the previous show was still going on and they put our group of 7 in the waiting room we checked in with our reservations (remember tickets are 1/2 price online $6 each) the show started a little late but whatever it was already midnight. small place but relaxed. we had about a 20 person audience and a 9 comedian lineup YES 9 COMEDIANS all were hilarious but 1but his act was short. Great host and all the comics kept the entire audience involved (poor ppl on their 1st date if you were them at the 3/8/08 midnight show and the comics called the guy montel i hope everything was ok) but all around it was a great night nearly non-stop laughs. theres a 2 drink minimum but hey laughing gets u thirsty. for 7 of us the tickets were $42 and the 2 drinks each came out to $72 so about $16 a person it was a great night will never forget. i highly recommend to anyone.
- Pros: Price, Very funny
- Cons: none
WOW!
by IHunt123
So the comics were horrible? they each had about 3 minutes of material the rest of the time they tried (unsuccessfully) to riff off the audience. Hilarious jokes like ?I would f**k you??.are you kidding me?! NOT FUNNY not even clever. But that?s not the worst part. We ordered 6 drinks and had a bar tab of $50!!! The drinks came in tiny plastic cups and were watered down.
- Pros: N/A
- Cons: small, expensive, looks like an unfinished basement
You couldn't pay me to go back!

My grandmother is funnier than most of those comedians I saw that night. I should have stayed home and saved my $26, which is what I spent on drinks for me and my friends (the least I could do for dragging them to this sorry display of talent less sheep). At one point I became dizzy from the revolving door of comedians that exited the stage as quickly as they entered. The decrepit urine stenched bathroom was mildly reminiscent of a scene from a horror movie. The one saving grace of the entire night was Ronnie, an urban comedian who understood what real comedy is all about. He had the audience genuinely laughing from the time he got on stage until the time he left. That man definitely has talent. Unfortunately, he was not enough to save the rest of the night. After seeing those ?um?performers I?d say that Grandma definitely has a good shot at stand up comedy!
- Pros: Reasonable Admissions Fee
- Cons: Poor Ambience, Horrible Bathroom
One club, two rooms, reasonable prices, guaranteed laughs.

Place Matters
The Big Room has the look and feel of a classic comedy club: seating for 135 at small tables with great sight lines; the smaller Space @ 24 is an intimate 52-seat house. For either area, the menu has a variety of cheap food items--all prepared on-site--while a full bar features some imaginative frozen drinks. Group rates for 10 or more encourage advance reservations, especially if you're looking to be seated together.
On the Scene
NYCC attracts a diverse clientele, and the house MCs work harder at making you comfortable than making a joke at your expense. The Big Room is where you'll find top NYC comics at cover charges far below the usual. Headliner showcases feature an MC and 4 stand-ups. In The Space@24, the weekly African-American and Latino-themed shows have a well-earned cult following while bigger names drop by unannounced.

This club is awesome. I've gone here many times. It's got great comedy and the prices are low. The same comics appear at this club that appear at other (more expensive) comedy clubs. Anyone who complains about the prices, shouldn't even step out of their apt or trailer. A freakin' movie costs close to $10 and this club only charges $12 and the shows are 2 hrs long! The same 2 drink min. applies at this club that applies to every other comedy club in the freakin' world. The people that complain must be from another planet. By the way, the club is undergoing renovations...so, if you can't deal with it...DON'T! The comics still come and and have a blast. Why shouldn't you?
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER again

B4 I start, I want 2 say for that price I wasn't looking 4 the RITZ. But New York Comedy Club was the worst comedy Club I have ever entered. 1st, they were 45min late, their tables were not cleaned from the previous show. They had 5 comics & the 1st 3 were kinda funny but the remaining 2, HORRIBLE & BORING I actually fell asleep. The worst of all was the food. We bought "3 Crown burgers & chips" for $5.50 & what we got back, were these 3 micro-waved mini burgers cooked hrs B4 & a small bag of chips that U would get at Halloween. I thought I would get French fries not a BAG of CHIPS, Then they had the nerve 2 charge a service charge, WHAT SERVICE? The next time Im in New York, I hope I dont even smell their club.
- Pros: Inexpensive
- Cons: NASTY FOOD, BORING, Microwaved food
Oh, Where Do I begin?
by u347464
Went after dragging my 3 outta town guests to come out. What a mistake. For a Saturday night, we had plenty of options. But wanted something laidback and I had tkts already. Show began over 45 mins late. The first 3 acts were average, you had to force yourself to laugh. Was hoping that as the night progressed, things would get better. Most of the comedians came on the stage w/ NO jokes and spent the time just messing w/ the audience. One high school prom guy who looked old. The only act who seemed prepared had jokes that weren't funny anyway. I almost dozed off. The MC was funnier than the acts themselves but he said the same jokes sometimes. Many ppl left quite pissed & were verbal about it. At 3:00AM, finally gave up & didn't even wait for the headliner. What did we do to deserve this?
- Pros: Cheap, U get what u pay for
- Cons: Not funny comedians, Service started late, Poor ambience
