i am VERY dissappointed with this tailor. i brought in a brand new prada swimsuit to be SLIGHTLY altered in the bust area. i was a little unsure, since i have never had to tailor a swimsuit, but the he assured me they could do this. a week later i came to pick up my suit, but it was not ready and he said they needed another hour. i was a little irritated since it was supposed to be finished two days prior to my arrival, but i told him i would be back later that day. when i came back i was SHOCKED to see such a horrible job! it looked like they did the alteration in ten minutes and couldn't even be bothered to close the seams they opened. not only did they open up the seam WAY more than was necessary for the slight alteration, it looked like they did it with their eyes closed! i told them i would not pay for this, it was unacceptable. the same tailor that agreed to the job, said he didn't have the machine needed to make the correct stitch. unbelievable! i asked him why he didn't tell me this in the first place? he knew he did a horrible job and told me not to pay him. now i have to find another tailor to fix what he messed up and i'll probably have to pay more to correct this unprofessional job. i DO NOT recommend this tailor at all!!!
Pros: none
Cons: ruined my clothing

I have almost all of my clothes tailored, so I feel like a reasonable judge of quality. That of Campos & Campos is good, I admit. I don't agree that they are great or magic, as some reviews suggest - but they are good at what they do. They are, unfortunately, really terrible at everything else. They are completely unreliable, dishonest, unfriendly and overpriced. I took in several pieces which ranged from simple (pants hemming) to complex (a restructured sport coat) and was told it would take a month. That was a bad sign. I'd been told they were expensive, but was still surprised at the $800 price tag. After a month I called them and was told to come in two weeks later. I arrived and was told my garments were in a warehouse and asked to come back a week later. This process went on for another month and a half until the 4th time I went back I finally got my clothes - minus one sweater that was to be repaired. They claimed to have never seen it. So after about 3 months, a lost sweater and $800 I got reasonably sewn tailoring. You do the math.
Pros: reasonable sewing
Cons: everything else

I was deeply dissatisfied with the tailoring done on a trenchcoat that I brought here to have the sleeves shortened. Two inches from the bottom of each sleeve was a mini belt encircled by three loops, which would have to be repositioned as well. I was told it would cost $55 and take two weeks, which seemed to be expensive and slow, but I figured it would result in a perfect product. Two weeks later, I went to pick up the coat and was told that it would not be ready for another day -- meaning, they had not even started on my coat. All of the above I could tolerate, but what I found unacceptable was the finished product that I received: the belts that encircled the bottom of the sleeves had not been repositioned at the same height (there was a 1/2-inch difference), some of the loops were sewn on crookedly, and the loops were now all of different lengths. One could plainly see these errors just by looking at the coat; it was obvious that the work was done haphazardly. It was also clear that Apollo had not bothered to look at the finished product before handing it over -- or if he had, perhaps he figured I wouldn't care. But, having paid $55 and waited more than two weeks, I did care. When you complain, Apollo will say that he will fix it (after dismissing your complaints). What he doesn't understand is that when customers pay his high prices, they do not expect to have to point out to the tailor that details on sleeves should match with each other and that sloppy products should not be handed over on the theory that they will do it right only after the customer complains.
Pros: None
Cons: Poor work product; long wait

Campos & Campos do very good work, but their prices for basic alterations are absurd. To alter the waist and length of three regular pairs of pants, they charged $160!!!! Maybe I will use them for suits, but they are not the place for simple jobs.
Pros: Good work
Cons: Overpriced. Slow

The tailors here do very good work. I've primarily used them to hem my jeans and also to take in the waist on the ones that had that "booty gap." Their work is flawless and no one would be able to tell that I had my jeans taken in or hemmed. Yes, they are pricey. But if they can do magic on jeans, I can only imagine what they can do to a suit and to fine items.
Pros: Very fine work
Cons: pricey

they do good work, but nothing to justify the outrageous prices. i went in a number of years ago and was surprised when i got a $75 bill for fairly innocuous alterations to a new suit. i thought that perhaps there were some special adjustments that i didn't know about. but when i went in for alterations again, some years later, i got the same stiffing. i have over 50 suits, and i've had many alterations. so i know what i'm talking about. go someplace else. this place is a rip-off.
Pros: decent work
Cons: ridiculously overpriced

I dropped a ski suit off here in the first week of june '06. The tailor told me it would be finished by june 30. Mr. Campos was a bit testy when, having temporarily misplaced the receipt, I called two weeks later to see when I could pick it up. After having him put me in my place as to the correct date, I showed up after July 4 only to be told that he had not got around to it yet. Usually when this kind of thing happens, I'll simply grab my things, leave, and not go back. But here I had looked around for a tailor first and what the heck, he already had the suit there. I should've known better. I mean, first off he said it would be finished June 30, then he reiterated June 30 again when I called. Then I went over there 1st week in July and it wasn't finished and I asked him to call me if it wasn't done in a week. Today, almost a month after it was supposed to be finished, I went to pick it up again. No surprise to me, he had not even started it. I asked him why it wasn't finished and why he hadn't call me to tell me so and he said he had no excuse. So I picked up the suit and left as I should've done the first time. Obviously mistakes happen, delays happen, stuff happens. But I'd expect Mr. Campos to call me and tell me the situation, and even he says he has no excuse. Obviously this man is not interested in customer service.
Pros: uh, don't have a long walkup from the street? near a subway stop.
Cons: customer service is nonexistant; even the owner says so.

I've got to admit, Campos & Campos is the best tailors I've ever used, which is saying something since I'm a big fan of getting clothes fitted correctly. Of course, it pains me to say this ... the place is already too busy. They're very nice and very sweet, but they've never once finished an order on time. I've had to go back two to three times after the work was supposed to be finished. But if you can put up with that, you're in for a treat. These guys (and gal) are amazing tailors and know how to make any garmet look good on a person. Just don't wait for the last minute to drop something off. It regularly takes them about ten days to alter four pair of pants (I'm not just talking about getting something hemmed).
Pros: Great tailoring
Cons: too busy
