Food to Perfection
by kara nortman at Citysearch
Maybe I have been living outside of the food mecca of nyc for too long, but I was blown away by my relatively simple, incredibly well prepared meal at Red Cat.
I started with the frisee salad with egg - I can never resist an egg on any non-breakfast meal, but this egg was poached to the ideal amount of "runnyness" to spice up the frisee and bacon accents. Then the salmon.. ooh the salmon was crisped, grilled and flavored to a crescendo with the first slice of the fork. I tried to resist dessert, but was lured into sharing a chocolate bread butterscotch bread pudding that was worth the impact to my waistline. All in all, a must try.
- Pros: Every course is excellent
- Cons: A little bit loud, but still intimate and lively

As a New Yorker who dines out several times a week, it's so refreshing to find a restaurant that continues to make the grade over and over. I've been a fan for many years and have turned on many friends and business associates to this not-so-hidden gem. On a recent visit my wife, who is notoriously hard to please, had a perfectly braised lamb. I opted for their signature pork chop which is maybe the best I've had. The staff is always warm, smart and professional. We know we're in good hands with their recommendations and they've taken the time to get to know our preferences over the years. Hat's off to the cat!!!
- Pros: consistently impressive food & service
Good, but I've had better for less money.

I had been to Red Cat twice before, around the Summer of 2007 perhaps. Both times I really loved the entire experience...the food, the ambiance...
I went again in January of '09 with a friend. I got the beet salad appetizer, which was "good"...nothing spectacular, but then, beet salads are pretty basic. My friend got the pierogi appetizer which I tried, and it was scrumptious.
For the entree I got the double-cut pork chop. While the chop itself was very good, I found the choose of accompanying vegetables (pieces of romaine, slices of radish, gigantes (or large white beans) and feta cheese, to be "odd". I wasn't crazy over it.
My friend got the salmon dish, and while I didn't try it, she seemed to enjoy it.
For dessert, I got the semi-freddo. I consider myself a dessert connoisseur, and I must say it was totally decadent and delicious, and the warm chocolate sauce was of a very good quality.
The ambiance of the restaurant was nice. For a Saturday night, reservations were definitely needed as the place was full.
However, considering I paid $80 (which included the tip) for an appetizer, entree, dessert, wine, and coffee, I've had meals that were just as good at similar level restaurants, for about $20 less. So I'm not sure I would see any reason to return....

Love going here. This is a special date night - spending two + hours enjoy food, wine and good conversation. This is a wonderful place to catch up with loved ones over a long dinner. The food is amazing and well executed. Top 5 favorite restaurants in New York.

Excellent food, wine and atmosphere in this small gem! We chose this restaurant as our original choice for the evening screwed up the reservation, and we needed to find something nice on the fly. We followed the recommendations from city search and ended up there. One word sums it up: AWESOME!
The service was outstanding, too. It felt like everyone working there actually enjoyed working at this place!
- Pros: food,ambiance

Excellent food. my friend and I ordered the Double Cut Pork Chop . it was pretty good, it was more than enough for two people. the dessert was great. service was good too. this restaurant is small, so making an appointment would be a good idea.I would recommend to anyone who want to eat delicious French food.
- Pros: food,service
Excellent Atmosphere!! Romantic.

Before coming to NYC I decided to research this Restaurant before committing as you may be doing now. Most of the reviews I read were very accurate. Yes, it can be a little noisy, but you have to expect that in NYC. Part of that noise reason is the NYC locals...they LOVE this place. When my wife and I arrived it was packed, not by tourists.....Locals. The service was very impressive. We made reservations and received two phone calls to confirm our seats prior to our arrival. Once we arrived we were seated immediately. The waiter was very professional and courteous. And the rest of the staff also made our stay very pleasant. At no point were our water glasses half full and the food delivery was well paced. Try the Crisp Green Beans!!! As for our main course, my wife had the Organic Chicken which was outstanding. I had the Pork Chop dinner which was very tender and moist but lacked a little flavor. That is the only negative comment I have. I promise you will not be disappointed. Treat yourselves to this wonderful Restaurant.
- Pros: Atmosphere
Great Date Place!
by mereditheats at Citysearch
I was taken to Red Cat last night on a date. the place is perfect for that. It was a bit crowded, but we got great attention from our server and the food was terrific. The only thing that i didn't like was the coleslaw that came with my unbelievable bbq quail. the steak was terrific and cooked exactly the way that i like it. I have heard great things about Red Cat and i definitely now totally agree!
- Pros: Great Food and good wine list
Terrific Evening!
by klsirota at Citysearch
My husband and I had dinner here last night and despite the noise that greeted us from the crowd of diners, we were treated to a wonderful evening of great service and delicious food. We were fortunately seated in the back which was quieter. Our waiter Mitchell was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. We asked his suggestions and followed many of them in ordering. I began with the Cricket Ball (Mitchell's suggestion...a perfect drink for me...citrus, somewhat sweet and festive!). We then shared the arugula salad (split in the kitchen...and just enough). I had the skate wing as an entree (a lovely combination of flavors and a great presentation). My husband had the stripe bass special which was beautifully prepared with artichokes and fingerling potatoes. We also shared the tempura string beans in the hot/sweet mustard. It was plentiful, fresh and delicious...highly recommended. We ended the evening with a flavorful pistachio frozen confection which had thick bittersweet fudge sauce that was drizzled on by a server...a great touch...a memorable evening! With so many interesting menu items, we can't wait to go back!
- Pros: great food and service
- Cons: noisy
Best service & best food
by mt123 at Citysearch
My girlfriend found Red Cat from citysearch, and I'm glad she did. We went last week, and the combination of great service and food made it the highlight among all the restaurants we visited while in NYC even compared to more expensive places. Mitchell was our waiter and the service was absolutely perfect by him and all the wait staff. Extremely attentive yet unobtrusive, and never had to ask for anything. Skatewing and fried green beans were delicious (the beans were unique and had good spicy mustard sauce - one order definitely large enough for 2). My girlfriend said the foie gras appetizer was the best she'd had (she orders it almost every place it's offered). This is the first review I've ever written of any place I've been, so needless to say, I highly recommend.
