worth money

by brendon78

The food was great. I made reservations for 10 people and everyone was happy with their selection. Everyone was sooo happy to be getting a doggy bag. I would recommend East of Eight and we are looking to eat there again.

amazingly good food!!

by ske157

The menu has a wide variety of delicious food! I have been back several times since I first discovered this restaurant last year. I have never been disappointed with the friendly staff and the memorable food. Everything from the perfectly portioned dishes to the great prices makes this restaurant one of my favorites in the city. It's also in a great location(right next to the movies theater)!!

  • Pros: outdoor dining, great place for parties

Great staff, awesome atmosphere, good food

by lizzyred8

Sat out back on a gorgeous NYC night. Clientele was as diverse as the food, from Wall Street brokers to drag queens, you can't help but feel at home. Wine options would satisfy even the most picky, and the food lived up to expectations - extrememly fresh seafood, juicy chicken and wonderful salads. Can't wait to return.

  • Pros: Outdoor dining, staff, clientele
  • Cons: there may be a wait to grab a spot outside on a busy night

What a pleasant SURPRISE

by Ray10471

When our movie finished on a Friday evening - we had no idea where to eat - when we literally bumped into the place two feet away..........

When we peered through the windows it looked very crowded and probably had it not been raining..... would not have dared to go in looking like some "rube" from Riverdale in The Bronx (which I am shhh)

anyway we entered and were warned we would have a "long" wait 15 minutes...... I figured that meant 30/45 minutes but I was OK with that ...... the host at the door led us into the bar and he could not have been any nicer.... as was the bartender..... we were seated 5 minutes later.......... Oh the place is proclaimed for its "gayness" but not an issue on my part - I felt welcomed, the staff could not have been any nicer and more attentive...... but I was so surprised by the quality of the food......... I plan on making it a regular stop....... parking, a nice movie theatre and a great restaurant/bar are all about a block apart - and everything was beyond reasonable on the cost front...........

We ordered baked apples wrapped in Prosciutto stuffed with Gorganzola...... then Guacamole and a shrimp, chorizo quesadilla ........ then onto a pasta special rigatoni with sausage et al.... and Orecchiette ...... both were excellent........ I really had a great time, never felt rushed, we hung out a while...... I wish the food was not that good as I ate way too much and had no room for dessert.......

  • Pros: I really did not know what to expect so I was really pleased.
  • Cons: None.....

Great dining experience

by fjalex2

My partner is blind. He's and his Guide Dog have been patronizing this great establishment for the past 17 years. When we met 5 years ago, he brought me to East of Eighth. Well, now we have Sunday Brunch or Dinner at Dusk at least twice weekly. The staff is extremely accomodating, warm, friendly... like a"family"... not like my family, however! The food is superb, served with great presentation, and the prices are reasonable. The portions are nice, the quality of the food is excellent, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is very pleasant and comfortable. The rest rooms are always immaculate, with candles always aglow, and smell great. We must tell you... this is a "gay" establishment. If you are homophoblc, please... do us favor and stay away! I was appauled to learn of some of reviews people have written! If you can't imagine yourself in this type of environment, don't bother going.

WORST, Most RUDE Customer Service EVER ANYWHERE. Terrible Food, too.

by tami_littlenut

The service was disgustingly rude -- why, oh why, must waiters have attitudes like spoiled movie stars? The female manager was surly and vile. The food was inedible. I am never, ever going there again.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Rude Waitstaff and Management and terrible food

Waiters with bad attitudes

by dewittmichelle

A large group of us just wanted to celebrate a friend's birthday and enjoy a nice meal. We decided to try East of Eighth because we had heard good things about the restaurant. We were seated pretty quickly which was nice but we were rushed out of there just as quickly. The waiter was extremely Obnoxious with a capital O. We were waiting about 10 mins or so for a friend who was running late and he came to the table every few seconds to see if we were ready to order dinner. To top it off we were seated at 6:40 and they have specials until 6:45. I asked our waiter if the specials were still available and he said no with a rude condesending attitude. Needless to say my friends and I will not be returning to this restaurant again, which is a shame because the food was very good.

service? yes.

by lily731

went here for dinner last saturday night. seated upstairs. waitress was very attentive the whole time. we were excited to try the menu with its wide variety. we really enjoyed the tortellini with broccoli rabe and sundried tomatos, the penne vodka, and the mesclun salad. i didn't really like the shrimp with pine nut crust over rooted veggies. the strawberry apple crisp dessert was pretty good. when we finished our bread basket, she asked if wanted another and we said no thanks, so she didn't bring one, but one of the busboys did... that's how good (or bad) the service was, depending on how you want to look at it!

  • Pros: service, menu choices

My boyfriend and I recently went to East of 8th for dinner on a Saturday night. We were seated at a nice, private table. The corn bread (among the several varieties in the bread basket) was delicious. Our waitress was very attentive and gladly helped us to make our food selection. We had all small plates, calamari, mussels, pot stickers, crab cakes, and an assortment of italian meats and cheese. They were all fantastic. We would definitely go back to East of 8th.
