Very Tasty
by CSMobileUser at Citysearch
My girlfriends went to Negril this past weekend and we had a great experience. The food tasted great and the atmosphere was festive and lively. The seating is kind of tight for big parties but it was not that bad. Negril offers many classic carribean dishes and the serving staff was pleasant and accomodating. I would reccomend to others and return myself
ROTI ROTI ROTI!!!!
by goldenticket7 at Citysearch
Last year this same time, I had my first Roti, on Barbados?s Accra beach....this curried goat, rolled up concoction makes my mouth water just thinking of it?.I couldn?t get enough?.later at Cheffets, again at Carnival in Port o? Spain, and just last summer in BK at the West Indian Parade. Everytime I order this delicious treat it?s comes like so: meat, potatoes, wrapped in bread (borritto style, this is the simplest way to described it.)
I'd like to tell you about my Roti experience at Negril Villiage, in Chelsea tonight. I Arrive 8pm...Me, a Boricua Fashionista and my Jamaican Sista, who frequents the Greenwich Village restaurant location.... (me also a self proclaimed food critic and rum connoisseur) am excited for what?s come highly recommended. We order? pomegranate rum pu*ch (which did happen to be excellent) and curried goat roti (the waitress repeated the order back to me and seemed clear on what was ordered), she a Red Stripe and oxtail. We?re sipping our drinks and chillen to the Jah Cure and Sizzla oldschool riddims?.when my roti arrives. I find a bowl of meat and piece of bread folded at the side. I know this is not what I ordered, but the waitress never comes back to check?.me hungry and the curried goat looking good, I just eat it. I felt a little offended for some reason that the order was so wrong, but more than anything really disappointed. It seemed the waitress had almost played a prank on me, like I wouldn?t have known it wasn?t the correct thing (I?ve never seen a roti served in a bowl?am I missing something???) I would have mentioned it to the waitress that this is not what I expected, but for whatever reason that night I felt passive and just made up my mind to not go back. If you want a better Carib spot, go to Sugarcane in BK?.that?s hot (try the rasta pasta and bacchanal)! Nothing but respect?.. if anyone knows a good roti spot, let me know...
- Pros: Great Drinks
- Cons: Poor service and food so so
Celebs and Good Food!
by nycool at Citysearch
I know this is New York and celebs are all over the place but the stars must really have been aligned tonight. I just came back from the Negril that's located on 23rd street (they have 2) and was surprised to see three groups of celebs in the restaurant at the same time. When we walked in we were able to get a table on the upper level even though it was crowded and when the host or manager(who was really handsome:-) walked us to our table we past ASHANTI who was just chillin out with on other person who I think was her cousin, not that I was listening :-) Then in a booth in the corner was Omar Epps and Megan Good with three other people. And in the back was Salt -N- Pepper...both of them! So I was on excitement overload.
Anyway, the food was great. I had the curry chicken with rice and peas and I had a mango martini that was really good. The service was good too. Definitey one of my best dining experiences.
- Pros: Celeb sighting, good food, down home feel
- Cons: none
Love Negril!

I went to Negril Chelsea the other day, almost by mistake. I was driving around, hungry and decided to stop by there as I was driving past. I used to go there all the time and I forgot how good the food was. My brother and I always get the wings and sure enough, they never disappoint! I left there happy and FULL. Anytime you want a quick food fix in the Chelsea or the Village (they have a restaurant there too) stop by Negril. I love em!
Change the name because Negril Chelsea, doesn't deserve to be associated with Jamaica.

My friend and I dined at Negril Chelsea a few weeks ago and it left much to be desired. The best thing were the Wings and the Sorrel Colada.
I ordered the HERB COCONUT SALMON, i'm still waiting for the Herb & the Coconut because all I had was tasteless salmon on my plate. I've ordered better meals in Brooklyn and I was HIGHLY disappointed to pay $22 for a entree that didn't even tantalize my palate. The Rice & Peas are a joke my 15 year old niece could cook circles around the chefs in the kitchen (that was in plain view, I might add). Where did the other reviewers eat because my food was terrible.
My family is Jamaican (Clarendon, St. Andrew...STAND UP!) and this was an insult to Jamaican cooking. Maybe I went on a bad day but it was overly salted to mask the fact that it was UNDER SEASONED. If I ever go back to Negril's someone will have to pay for it because i'm not spending my money on practice food.
- Pros: wings & Sorrel Colada
- Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE, over-priced salty food.
Best Caribbean Food Ever...
by walfelt1 at Citysearch
I was in New York celebrating my 39th birthday on January 26. My boss sister who lives in Queen recommend that we eat at Negril. What a great choice the food was OUT OF THIS WORLD, not to mention the veggie soup damn it was tasty. The Waitress came out with Bread Pudding with a scoop of Rum Raisen Ice Cream with a candle and sing Happy Birthday to me. When in NYC again, the first place I am stopping to eat is at NEGRIL in Chelsea. Thanks to the wonderful staff there.

Poor food, Poor service, Poor dining area

My friend always spoke about Negril as a high quality restaurant so we went there to celebrate my mother's birthday and expected high quality food for the prices listed. Needless to say this wasn't the case. I am Jamaican and I've lived with the food all my life, and on some of the dishes I could have done much better in my own kitchen. The curry goat was horrible and the rice and peas. The jerkchicken was nasty. Did I mention that they seated us at a table which was uncomfortable as my mother had to get up so that the people going to their seats could pass at each time. We asked to be seated at another table. They took us to a table where all we could see was the people preparing the food in the kitchen. Maybe my friend went to the other Negril, because this is the worst Jamaican food with such high prices I have ever been to.
- Pros: none
- Cons: Food, Ambience, Service, Value

BE CAREFUL!!! I had the jerkk chicken with rice and peas, beef patties and ordered a side of garlic mashed... The chicken was lukewarm, the rice and peas were cold in areas and hot in others... beef patties were yummy. And I did not get the mashed, instead I got the sweet potatos... I could not get the attention of the bartender/waiter so my meal progressed without the garlic mashed...
Woke up with a serious stomach ache.... lasted all day.... same with my friend who dined with me and ate the same dished...
I think that this place needs a checkup by the food police.. as I am sure their food got me sick... I won't even mention the bad service and awfully sweet drinks!
- Pros: Great music and great location
- Cons: FOOD, service

The Chelsea location of the upscale Caribbean spot features specialty cocktails and a giant fish tank.
