Rudest Employees in Town
by RestaurantReviewer234
I was meeting some friends who were already seated in the restaurant. I sat down next to them, and was immediately accosted by the wait staff. I was instructed to order an entree. I wanted tea, so I ordered tea. I was told, "No, you can't get tea. You must get an entree." After trying unsuccessfully with this man to order tea, I tried another waiter. He blew me off and said no, and referred me back to my other waiter. So I took a menu, and told him to give me a few minutes. Several minutes later, an older man, I'm assuming one of the bosses, came over angrily to the table, double checking that everyone had ordered an entree. Not an appetizer. Not some drinks. If you are seated at their restaurant, you must get an entree or they ask you to leave. I think that is ABSURD. They refused to serve me a drink (which I was willing to pay for!) if I did not first order an entree. I never did get my tea.
Also, the food seemed pretty overpriced, and the indoors were a bit dark and cramped. The restaurant had a very strange layout. I'm not returning here ever again.
- Pros: Food seemed ok
- Cons: Rudents employees I've EVER dealt with. And it's cramped.
THE WORST MEAL OF MY LIFE! nEEEEEVER again!!!!!`
by otroyansky
A meal at this restaurant was the worst meal of my life. I am trying as hard as I can to erase this experience from my memory because honestly it was the worst 60 dollars I ever spent. I went to this restaurant because it was recommended to me by an out of towner and I should have known...because this meal was disgraceful! The minute I walked into this restaurant I knew this was not going to be a good experience....it was disguisting and looked unsanitary. In fact the main dining room looks as though cows were slaughtered there an hour ago and they tried to mask everything with ugly artwork. It felt as though I was in another country....a third world country to be exact. The food was nasty, flavorless, and honestly places like this should not be allowed to exist. I found a hair in my paella, and the sangria was like fruit juice. And to top it off the restaurant doesnt accept credit cards....which is not stated anywhere! So we had to run out to get cash to pay for this disguisting and attrocious meal....i wish I could have walked out....anybody who said that this place good spanish food is on something, because it was the worst, nastiest meal of my life. I would rather give the money to a bum then to ever step foot into this establishment EVER again!
- Pros: nothing
- Cons: EVERYTHING
Free tapas, cheap and tasty sangria, average food, friendly service
by lizzyred8
Had dinner at Spain last night. Waiters are so pleasant, and the free tapas came out immediately. sangria was good (wish there was more fruit) and portions are pretty large. With tip we spent about $32/person and had plenty of food to bring home. I would definitely return for a low key night.
- Pros: prices, service, portions
Amazing Spanish Food
by rachelbff
So I threw a surprise party at this restaurant a few months ago...I had never been inside the place, but I heard it was great.
I called them up, planned the entire party over the phone, had a cake from Baskin Robins delivered there, and then just showed up with the birthday girl!
All 20 of our friends were already there, and eating lots of salad, bread, sausages, ribs, and enjoying pitchers of Sangria.
Everyone is given appetizers listed above for free, and then you can order your heart out. The meals are HUGE and delicious. I highly recommend the Paella, or the Shrimp in Green Sauce.
Sangria is outrageous, and the service is great....
The are ready to fill your glass of water, sangria, or bowl of fritas at a moments notice.
I took my parents and family there this weekend, and we all agreed... AMAZING!
My favorite Spanish Restaurant in the city!
- Pros: Food, Service, Drinks
Old reliable
by dhl2008
I have been eating here for years and have always remarked on how this place doesn't change. Same decor, same menu (prices rarely change either)
I really like the Paella and the other seafood in green sauce dishes. I don't eat meat so the free tapas don't interest me much. It's just a good place to be served a lot of seafood, chicken etc..so much in fact that you will have to take a doggy bag home.
The service isn't great so don't expect it.
You'll be satisfied.
- Pros: Great food, funky old style cocktail lounge
- Cons: shoddy service and decor
Great place
by johnpreis
This place is a great local place. I just moved in right next door and pop in every now and then. The help is very friendly and constantly providing food if you sit at the bar. Its a great old looking place with delicious food.
One of the worst restaurant in NYC
by gregoire75
I must say that it is one of my worst dining experience in the city. The restaurant is noisy, incredibly dirty, with an awful general decor. When we enter the premises, the first thing we notice was the horrible smell: a mix of restroom and burnt oil.
The service is rude but most of all the food is a nightmare. The so-called free tapas are just awful. Fat chorizo swamp in fat, mussels all but fresh, bad bread, cheap salad with spicy tomato sauce and disgusting pork ribs with barbecue sauce. And the paella is just a joke. It is basically yellow rice with sea food on top, but nothing has been cooked together.
I would even hesitate to send my worst enemy here. To be avoided by all means!
- Pros: can't find any
- Cons: food, service, ambience,decor
Beginning of a beautiful friendship
by carnivorousone
Last night was my first time dining here and it won't be my last. My new friend recommended the place, and it was the perfect "first date". She warned me about the amount of food, and she did not exaggerate. They started us off with bread, salad, oysters, chorrizo and more! I couldn't believe the amount of appetizers they offer...all FREE. Afterwards my date and I shared a paella...the best and BIGGEST paella I've ever had in New York City.
Although I don't drink, I've heard nothing but raves for thier Sangria, which my date enjoyed. The overall aesthetics and decor of the place was no-frills, but for me good food and service is more important than atmosphere, and that is what we got here. My only regret was not getting the "lovers nook" table (a table located in a secluded alcove) that I noticed as we walked in, but nevertheless it was perfect.
She forgot to warn me about the "cash only" policy, so I had to run out and find an ATM. No problem considering our bill was a mere $44.00!!!, a meal that could of ran us at least $60.00 elsewhere. Can't wait to go back. A+
- Pros: Good food, large portions, free appetizers
- Cons: No credit cards
BEST Sangria and FREE Tapas!!!
by ialvarez96
This is a mom and pop joint that has been around since the 1960's. If you're looking for the best Sangria in town..this is the one! They actually make it fresh each time you order and it's one of the most refreshing Sangrias even when you're not in the mood to drink. I took a friend of mine and she wasn't in the mood to drink, she had one taste and it was over! :)
The minute you sit down you get plenty of FREE appetizers and they go so perfect with the Sangria. The Paella is large enough for 4 people so you pretty much spend $5 bucks each for dinner! Also, a great place for a big group of people who want to catch up while being able to hear each other. I can't say enough about this place and the service...it's awesome!!! The ribs are salty but it tastes so good and goes so well with the Sangria. I'm actually going tonight with 16 friends and can't wait for the ribs and Sangria!! hehe What can I say...it's one of my favorite restaurants! :)
- Pros: FREE Tapas and the best fresh Sangria in town, huge Paella.
A Delicious Spanish Restaurant almost EVERYONE can afford!
by creativelolita
If you are more into the "scene" than the food, you'd be better off hitting Flor De Sol or another trendy "Latin" place, but if you just want delicious Spanish food in a low-key atmosphere for a great price, Spain is always the answer. My boyfriend is from Nicaragua and loves the Paella and after having it here, I cannot enjoy it anywhere else (unless he makes it for me and even then, Spain might edge him out). The staff is friendly and while the atmosphere is nothing special, it's not the worst place to eat either. Like many places in NY, there are no credit cards accepted but with these prices, that should not be an issue. It's
- Pros: Authenic Paella, Excellent Sangria, free appetizers
- Cons: The atmosphere is not romantic but it's not a cafeteria either, it's just humble
