A vast loft space in the West Village houses a creepy art gallery, body art jewelry shop and some of Manhattan's most trusted inkers.
by Brian Merchant
In Short
Part art gallery, part tattoo parlor, Cutting Edge Body Art is an enormous loft-sized hub for the macabre in the West Village. A floor up from the street, and thus removed from the cacophony of traffic, CEBA is weirdly relaxing. You can kick back on the couch and flip through artists' portfolios or wander the room and check out whatever slightly unsettling art they have hung about. Artists like Jon Jon and Jayson are well-regarded in the ink world, and will openly discuss ideas for personalized pieces.

This past Saturday, 8/23/08 I had my hood pierced (below the belt). Tony was awesome! He was knowledgable, professional and like another poster said, made me feel at ease. He took his time and let me ask all the questions in the world. The place is clean and everything he used was sterile. Totally recommend them!

Super clean environment
The people make you feel at ease
Overall I give Cutting edge 6 stars....even though city search allows up to 5.

Got my nose pierced by Tony today...he was very humorous and calmed my nerves as he was cracking jokes on me! I'm very happy with my piercing and would highly recommend this spot for a nose piercing. I'm do back in a month and might check out their tattoo work.
- Pros: funny
- Cons: a little pricey
Perfect services

I got my last tattoo here a few years ago, so I thought I would go back again before trying out any other place. The tattoo artist was great - we fixed up an appointment right away, he emailed me his preliminary design and within a weeks, I got inked and was good to go.
I highly recommend this place - people are friendly, artists provide their opinion on your design ideas, the place is clean and inviting, and I would definitely go back.
Just damn good

Great Place, customer service, and atmosphere--thanks Anthony!

I heard about this place on here and I definitely agree with all the other posts that it was a good place. At first I was a little skeptical about the location but once I went in the waiting area was clean and neat and the atmosphere was nice to sit and wait in. I met with the tattoo artist who looked at my design and gave me quote he spent a good amount of time drawing it up and perfecting it to the way I liked it,
Customer service was a big thing for me, I really wanted a place that had a friendly and helpful staff because why should I feel intimidated or uncomfortable about the person who is tattooing something permanent on me.
It was my first tattoo and the tattoo artist, Anthony who did me was great he was nice and I liked him. I want to get more added to my tattoo and I definitely want to go back to him.
It was a little pricey but I've always heard, "save money on groceries, not tattoos"--very true
- Pros: Atmosphere and quality

So far I have gotten 2 facial piercings and a tattoo here, they are amazing! The atmosphere is good, the people are super nice and they know what they are doing. It's really clean as well! I plan on getting several more tattoos and wouldn't think of going anywhere else!
- Pros: everything!
- Cons: nothing!

My cousin wanted to tattoo an image of goddess Nike, she printed it out off internet but the image needed to be scaled down to how she wanted it tattooed. So, we citysearch-ed to find a reputable spot. We jotted down 4 locations and went to visit them to get more info and hopefully arrange an appt. 1st we went to Inkstop, there were couple of people in line in front of us, 2 already getting inked. After 20 mins we finally got some attention with the appointment boy. (There was no front desk so he just walked around w/appt book). We showed him the print out to which he wrinkled his nose, saying it wouldn't look right as a tattoo but he'll talk to the artist. He came back and said that the artist can't size the drawing - basically said it can't be done (!)... encouraging! Anyway, the place was plaster white w/neon lights - not in sterile way, more in a village vet's office way. 2nd we went to Andromeda where the guy working the front was either high or a complete snob. When we showed him the picture he looked at it like he didn't want anything to do with it, saying that instead she should get a tattoo of a "beer bottle with bunch of cigarettes sticking out of it." He told us they charge $150/hr. The place had some daylight in the front but was dark and getting darker further back. It also reeked of bleach. Parking on or around St. Marks was impossible. Then we walked into Cutting Edge and loved it! Place looked great, waiting area painted and decorated very simple but cozy. The guy at front desk was friendly and professional and the artist (Xander) was immediately willing to work with our design. He redrew it (to perfection!), gave us a fixed price $150 and we set an appt for the following week. We came back, everything was clean, comfortable and professional. Everything took 1&1/2 hrs. No pain, no probs,2 wks passed since and her tattoo looks amazing! On a sidenote, both days we went there - Saturday @ noon - plenty of parking but bring quarters.
- Pros: service, ambience, everything!
- Cons: none!
