I've checked out classes at Om, Jivamukti, The Shala, Laughing Lotus and Integral Yoga. Out of all of these places, I think Yoga Works is the best. Their classes are challenging, but at the same time teachers are really good about explaining technique. When I take classes at other places in the area, I find that they rush through and the technique is terrible - which is not as effective out and may even result in injury. A lot of the teachers are very experienced and learned at Yoga Works in CA (where it's the top school). You'll find out pretty quickly which teachers are best. The downside is that they only have 2 classrooms. They don't offer as many classes as some of the bigger schools. Evening and weekend classes can be crowded and they don't have good changing rooms. The unlimited monthly rate is a great deal, but even if it were more, I don't think I would go anywhere else.

I think some of the instructors are writing reviews for this studio on here so I've decided to write an honest review. I've actually gone to a class at the Eastside studio lead by a girl with the same name as one of the reviewers listed here. That said, if you sign up for the monthly unlimited classes package it's a pretty good deal. There are a variety of classes and some good instructors but there is an over all vibe of underlying anger and strangeness with some of the instructors. It also seems like a lot of the young girls there are taking the teacher training which can be a tad annoying.
Pros: Good price only if buying the monthly package
Cons: A lot of trainees and some strange instuctors.

The place is right around Union Sq. Convenient Location. There are 2 rooms in the studio and both are very charming. The classes are different, so you can pick what fits you, your time and your level. The instructors are all very knowleadgeble and nice. The atmospshere is great.
Pros: Great instructors, great deals for first time students, great location, great classes and atmoshphere
Cons: Small changing rooms, no lockers

Babyworks prenatal yoga workshop is a good place to begin learning prenatal yoga before attending regularly scheduled classes. Bridget Shields is excellent.
Pros: Small classes; caring ; space is open.

I love this studio... totally unpretentious yet still a cool place to practice. The teachers are so amazing and the level of attention was awesome. I even had my own Yoga Advisor to help me! It was a great way to get started... and now I am hooked.

The quality of the teaching is unparalelleled. If you really want to learn how to be strong and avoid injury in every pose this the studio for you. Beginners and advanced students will benefit from the attention to detail in every class. Plus they have Yoga Advisors to help you create a program that will meet your goals.
Pros: quality of teaching, variety of classes, yoga advisor program
