A great place to spend with your friends!

by cortelyou at Citysearch

Good selection of beer, great location, no pretentious bouncer. The lighting is awesome, they have great big cozy wooden booths to sit in with your friends. Its a nice warm atmosphere to spend with your friends on those cold winter nights. It adds on to Bleecker Streets charm. A nice young crowd is found throughout the bar. I left this place feeling fantastic and it wasn't just because of the booze!

  • Pros: great atmosphere, friendly staff, good selection of booze, good prices
  • Cons: bad curb appeal but once inside you'll find it pretty cozy

Bleeker's #1 spot

by TheBoneman at Citysearch

I've been coming here for years now (roughly about 3 times a month) and I still can't find something to complain about. The beer selection is amazing. The prices are reasonable and the food is pretty darned good considering the rest of the bars along Bleeker. Its convienently located on the corner of Bleeker and La Guardia, so getting a cab on those drunken nights is no problem at all. There is no pretentous bouncer here either which is a breath of fresh air given the fact that it is a bar in New York City.

One slight thing I can complain about has absolutely nothing to do with the bar itself. Almost every time I go outside for a smoke, I'm bothered by a drug-dealer/undercover cop trying to get me to buy coke. I know this has no reflection on the bar but if there were a way to get rid of these people, I, along with many of my friends and fellow customers would greatly appreciate it.

  • Pros: Beer selection, non-pretentous attitude, good crowd
  • Cons: none

A battered old tavern claimed almost exclusively by NYU students.

In Short
Finding anyone over the age of 22 at this local dive is quite a challenge. The Peculiar Pub is always crawling with youthful vitality that, in this circumstance, translates into rowdy binge drinking. Young worshippers of the bottle cram into wooden booths of clerical origins, on which they carve their crushes' names and their four-lettered words of wisdom. Is this sacrilege? Well, at least they show good faith in the 500 bottled beers and 17 drafts available.

What? Can't hear you...what?????

by alsmez at Citysearch

We were here on Friday night, and OMG, it was LOUD. Not so much the music though - mostly, it was the clientele. Rowdy, drunk college students, and plenty of them, screaming at the top of their lungs. The waitresses were great, though, and the beer selection was excellent. Prices were quite reasonable as well. However, if you are over 25 you will feel seriously out of place here, and if you want to be able to have a conversation, you should probably look elsewhere. I would consider coming back on a Sunday afternoon or other slow time to further explore their beer selection.

  • Pros: Beer
  • Cons: NOISE, Clientele

Wow, they have that kind of beer?

by satellight at Citysearch

I've been to this place many a time. I usually take visitors here because they can find their favorite beer and more. The list is so extensive, I usually end up getting drunk. The tables are long and made for good conversation with either your group or a few other people who just sit down next to you. The place is a bit loud, so shout away. The bathroom is way too small for such a huge drink menu, so get in line! It's a great place to meet people, and I love the juke box... the tunes are very, very good. Munchies are good, and I believe gratuity is incorporated into the price of a drink already, so no need to tip.

  • Pros: Great beer selection, great music, lively atmosphere
  • Cons: Loud, drunk space invaders

Mixed Pecular Reviews

by b00pi3flak3s at Citysearch

Peculiar is right. The place is weird but the drinks are cheap and the crowd is mixed. More mixing occurs when the people leave for the night.

  • Pros: Beer, Mixed Crowd, Prices, Service
  • Cons: Crowded, Bathrooms, Music

LAME, BORING, VERY SOFT JUKEBOX, OLD-MAN BAR

by rebel1978 at Citysearch

This had to be one of the lamest, boring bars I've been to in NYC. I don't think I can say anything good about this place. The drinks are NOT cheap compared to REAL dive bars in the city. They have a horrible jukebox filled with mostly garbage 90's rock music (not even the good bands). On top of that, even when the jukebox is playing, you cannot hear the music because it's so soft. The bartenders were friendly, and that's probably the only good thing I can say. The neighborhood is also filled with mostly freaks. There were a few young couples at this bar, but mostly old men and gay people. My recommendation is to stay away from these village bars and check out the Patriot instead on Chambers & Church. Drinks are cheaper there and you can actually hear the music.

  • Pros: Friendly Bartenders
  • Cons: Very Soft Jukebox, Poor Music Selection, Very Lame

the un-trendy

by aneissam at Citysearch

Every time I'm in NY I love to go to this pub. It is loud and packed in the evening but it has a fun atmosphere. It's loud and everyone is having a great time!! It has an amazing selection of beer. I love getting the flavor of an old city and the neighborhood crowd. It even feels a lot like the neighborhood pubs in Scottland and England. You can feel history here.
