My favorite place in NYC

I am appalled at these reviews! Honestly, I have been a patron of cafe bari for many years and it has always been my favorite place to stop while I'm shopping on Broadway. It's the greatest corner in Soho with huge windows looking out on Broadway. The waitstaff is happy and unique. They are not trained to be snobbish and professional but provide a laid-back mellow and fun vibe that add to all that is soho. The food is a little expensive but they give you SO MUCH. Portions are huge! Their mini-burgers are my favorite, in-expensive but filling and delicious. They have the best coffee in Manhattan and now they even have homemade crepes in a to-go window on Broadway. The place is amazing and it can count me as a returning customers for years to come.

What a rip-off

Went in to grab some lunch on a sunday afternoon. The menu outside didn't have any prices posted but we figured even if pricey, the menu would be reasonable. Unfortunately we were wrong. The prices are ridiculous, I paid $20 for a ceasar salad. Cranberry juice was 4.95. Balthazar is just around the corner and it's prices are half that. Will never visit again.

I will never go back THE WORST EVER

Service and attitude is the worst ever. they wrote "Tips are not included in this receipt" in the receipt. I will never go back. I wasted my time there. I will not pay tips for the worst service. Dont ask me that. They should be trained if they want tips.

worst service and worst attitude

The worst service and attitude that I ever met. I went ther with my friend for the small break, when we sat down, i asked a bus boy for the glass of water, he said ok but did not bring it, and after 15 mins, the waitness came, we ordered the food and repeated the water again, but after 20 mins, still no water serviced even the food came. i asked the waitness again for the water, but she just disdainful glared us and said she ordered, whats wrong with these peoples, i planed to leave there for such kind of attitude, another 5 mins past, the water finally serviced for our table, but she even did not say a sorry, no eye contact or a word. the service was disgusting, but they still charged the tips on the bill unblushing. like five bus boys and three or four waitness were standing there for nothing to do. what a awful service there, and when the people on the next table who were a white couple sit down, the same waitness came to their table with two glasses of water with lemone to them just in 5 mins, but my water took her like 40 mins, The people there are racial discrimination, rude and unblushing, would not go there again for sure. it is not a good place for people who hope to take a light food and break durning the shopping in Soho.

complete waste

I am not one to write reviews, my experience at Cafe Bari was bad enough that i feel compelled to. Please, Saturday afternoon shoppers, if you are strolling along Broadway through Soho and feel like sitting down for a snack/ light meal, please walk past Bari. There is a Cafe Miro just a block away, and if worse comes to worse there is a million Starbucks that will be much more satisfying. We went in there because 1) it was right there and 2) it was crowded. We should have looked at the miserable entrees outside on display, and made a simple decision. But we didn't. For a $20 Veggie Burger with a dilapidated patty, a $12 appetizer of hummus, and some other mashed up miserable looking spreads was not only unappetizing, i was scared that after an incident with an incredibly rude waitress that my food had been contaminated. It looked that bad. To start, the waitress brought a glass full of water (the ice had melted) for my soda, when i sent it back, she informed me it was just water. I generally don't dilate Coke, do you? After i ordered, she brought out a beef burger, (fairly strict vegetarian here) i told her i ordered a veggie burger, she told me that i didn't. I was ready to leave, particularly after I saw the waitress recount the incident to the entire wait staff, hands flailing, pointing at our table. When she brought the veggie burger, and I thanked her. she barely spoke, nor made any eye contact. I did notice that this particular waitress had been upset by another table, probably because her ineptness and general lack of hospitality had been pointed out to her. We did not eat the rest of our food, our bill came to $50 for what was intended to be a snack, and we found ourselves completely disgusted by the way we had been treated. Overall, don't waste your time, money, morale, or generosity on this mess.

WEIRD staff!

We went at 11 a.m. on a weekday. imagine this setting - 2 couples in the entire cafe, and about 8 servers standing at the bar directly to our right just GAWKING at us. It was the most awkward meal, ever! All that aside, they were rude/inattentive. And there was this guy who cleared the tables who just kept walking by staring & smiling, or standing at the door staring and smiling. Like he's never seen girls! WEIRD restaurant - I defo won't be back.

Overcharge my credit card (they actually billed my card more than the total I signed for)

This is regarding Cafe Bari Upstairs (the bar). I'm pretty low-maintenance/low-key, yet they still try to ruin ones evening. They had three servers, one was great and attentive, one was slow and liked ignoring everyone and the third failed miserably, she: (1) provided horrible service (2) did not complete the order and (3) charged more to my credit card than the total I signed for. (They have two prices, one for those paying with credit cards and one for those paying with cash - which is of course illegal).

Needless to say, this place doesn't deserve the money I've already spent there, much less any more money.

True, their penne pasta is out of this world, but this place has been full of fruit flies every time I've been! They swirl around your food...it's disgusting!
