Great Lounge on Houston
by talent1
I appreciate the little things in life. A well-cooked filet. The smell of laundry fresh out of the dryer. Bar managers that pick up the phone.
Madame X goes above & beyond on that last one. Amy - the events coordinator - is one of the sweetest and most responsible people I've ever worked with. They make it policy to provide her direct cell phone line on their voice-mail and she even picked up the phone four hours away while driving back to NYC. She effortlessly fielded my call and didn't need a calendar to see if her party room was booked. I was blown away.
We originally scouted Madame X because they did a fantastic job with my sister's birthday party. The drinks were well-mixed, the DJ spun a great mix of 80's, 90's, and Top 40. Swanky decor. Little to complain about except the late-night cover.
We didn't wind up going with Madame X as another alternative popped up, but I strongly recommend you making the upstairs party room a priority for your next soiree.
Great service and drinks. Solid 3.5 Stars
Great Bachelor/Bachelorette Party Place!
by jekoontz
I've always been fond of Madame X's decor, cocktails, and garden area, so I decided to have my bachelor/bachelorette party there. Amy was so helpful and had many options to reserve a space for our party at very reasonable prices. When we arrived right away Meg took us to our couch and shooed away some other customers to free up our reserved space (always happy when staff takes care of this sort of thing without prompting or drama). From then on Meg was very attentive and friendly, fair and reasonable; the perfect cocktail waitress! When we got a little too rowdy she gently and politely checked us and we immediately stepped back into line. ;) We had a really great time, the bartenders were also awesome, and I couldn't have asked for a better place to host our bachelor/bachelorette party! :)
I love Madame X!

I had a birthday party at Madame X, and couldn't have been happier with how it turned out. The place is spacious and cozy -- loved the saucy decor. Amy was extremely accomodating and professional in helping plan the event and reserve a space. The bartenders were attentive and lovely, especially Meg. Even though our party moved outdoors to the garden area (which we loved!), Meg consistently made trips out back to take care of our drinks. My guests had a fantastic time; I would definitely come back.
- Pros: spacious, great bartenders, good music, outdoor garden

Chic lounge!
by BCohen101
I love, love, LOVE this cute and chic lounge. I've been going to Madame X for years and it's a wonderful place for a casual drink or get together with friends. I've been to many birthday parties here and the vibe is always down-to-earth and fun. Great martini menu! Get your cocktails on! :)
Great place - lots of fun!

rich lighting sets a great mood
by jessicakelly
I just went out on a date in this little lounge bar the other night. It was beautiful. The lighting, the furniture, the atmosphere. Its small enough to be comfy, but roomy enough to be luxurious. The service was pleasant and quick. It was a great place for a first date. The only complaint I have was the bathroom was a little dirty. I realize that that is pretty common all over New York, so it wasn't that big of a deal. It won't stop me from coming back to this place. I really loved it.
- Pros: decor and service
- Cons: bathroom
Perfect Spot for a Private Party
by yogabeth
This was such a fantastic cozy place for a private party - even though it is not a huge space, the way it is set up made it feel like there was tons of space. It is funky, cozy and intimate. The bartenders who worked our party (Alex and Jonathan) were completely top-notch!
- Pros: ambiance & bartenders
- Cons: none
Madame X: A Bar Review Post-Mortem
by LeonoraHelena

“But I just don’t understand why you don’t want to paint me anymore,” wailed Madame X to John Singer Sargent.
“You are no longer new,” Sargent replied, as matter of fact as a brush stroke. “I told you to stop with the slip of your dress strap. That alabaster shoulder, Amelie, was everything.”
“You weren’t the only one who wanted me. I am…I am the It-Girl!”
“Mrs. Gautreau. Amelie. Your face is as pale as your arms are plump. You are no longer twenty-three if you ever were a day. And you eat — red meat.”
Madame X looked around one last time at the fading red couches of her once famed boudoir, arching an alopecia-thinned brow at the imprint of a spectral lover (John - Jacques - Jonathan — and Catherine) who had lingered on the pale neck before leading Madame’s frail hand out to the garden to smoke French Resistance cigarettes and talk of all the fine things in the world.
“You can have the place if you still want it,” said Singer Sargent. ” But you should reconsider those portraits —they’re just so obvious, although the one in the unitard who looks like a yogi may do. You may also want to consider adding a few organic wines, and maybe a starter salad, if you even want to try and attract new clientele.”
Starter salads? Rabbit food? Madame grimaced.
“And most importantly, the smoke is bothering the neighbors.”
Madame X didn’t know what to say, so she didn’t except to kiss Singer Sargent tenderly on the nape and quietly pull the door shut and the heavy drapery down behind him.
She pulled down her black gown too — slowly tugging at the straps as the artist had first taught her — until her body shivered in a full-length gilded mirror.
She had never noticed how her paleness — accented by a light amber down — had lacked tautness, elasticity. Her grace had always been in the suggestion of movement rather than in the still-life’s perfection. Even in The Painting the grip of the hand gave the lie to the cool profile as the gaze — straight-ahead — dreamed of raptures in cr00ked side-streets.
But her clients had never minded. She had not changed.
Madame X took the revolver (it was in the yellow envelope all along in the conservatory) and stroked its muzzle against a belly fragrant with steak and wine.
“Now what would the neighbors think of that picture!”
The old Madame laughed, clucking a Bordeaux-stained tongue to ivory teeth.
“I guess I’ll have to put out an ad in all of those Bridge and Tunnel rags tomorrow,” she said with a bit of her old flounce, opening up the garden doors and striking up a match.
- Pros: A more solitary back-room invites late make-out sessions
- Cons: Euro, euro on the wall...
Awsome place!
by criticoneone
I have to say that this is the place to go when all other places fail because Madame X will never let you down. The decor is very sexi and plush. The drinks are very tastey and strong..just the way I like it. The DJ pleases everyone's music taste. Stop by and check this place out, you won't be disappointed.
