southern style, filling food

by eastvillagechick

Great relaxed brunch scene, always crowded with a good scene. The food is filing and hearty, even maybe a bit heavy. But altogether a great place!

  • Pros: great brunch
  • Cons: can have a wait

What about the wings?

by SAT1971

I've read a couple of the reviews here. Some good and some bad but what I didn't see is anyone commenting on how good the wings are at Jones. I know that every Wednesday night I start to crave that sweet, spicy sauce and Friday can't come soon enough. A couple of orders of those wings and a side of cornbread accompanied by a bottle of Chimay and life is good.

  • Pros: Great wings and atmosphere
  • Cons: parking

GREAT BRUNCH - HORRIBLE SERVICE!

by mandminla

I have been to this place for brunch multiple times and consistently go back for the amazing huevos rancheros. But every time I go, I become extremely frustrated with the terrible service. The waitstaff takes forever to take your order (the food comes very quickly, though). They are completely apathetic and seem like they couldn't care less about being at work or helping the guests. Today, I had to call the waitress over multiple times just to refill the coffee and give us water; she was apparently too busy eating her own breakfast to help us. The hostess took over 10 minutes to process our credit cards and when we asked for our receipts, she brought them back with a "Here you go, now you can leave." The one plus is that leaving a 10% tip for such terrible service keeps the bill low, but if it wasn't for the food, I would NEVER go back. I wish the management would take note because this hasn't been a one-time experience; this is EVERY time.

  • Pros: Great food
  • Cons: Service, cornbread and biscuits

Fantastic Place

by aliciaaaa

I think this place is fantastic.

Modern, delicious seasonal food, EXCELLENT service.

The menu is full of unique dishes ( I wanted them all).

Try the house salad, roasted chicken, cajun fried oysters.

I truly think this is one of NYs must eat restaurants.

Come here, you won't be disappointed.

In need of serious attitude adjustment

by boywondermax

Unfortunately for me, I have been to this place several times. My wife likes a drink that make here called the "Shaggy." If it wasn't for that, I would NEVER go here again. The staff has a terrible attitude. They make you feel like they would be so much happier if you would just go away- except they need your money.

I don't think it's particularly clean, either. Go if you frequent tiny, dirty places where the staff feels they are "cooler than you."

  • Pros: zero
  • Cons: staff w/ crappy attitude

great food,greta service and atmosphere

by hermanplum

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. I've been going here 3 times a month on average for several years. What is wonderful about this place is that it is consistent!

There were a few times it was off, but I was patient and all my good experiences far out way the negative ones.

  • Pros: food,service,atmph.

A Cajun-cool eatery with an Elvis bust in the window and Don DeLillo's eponymous novel on the wall.

by Melanie Berliet

This unassuming Cajun restaurant stands apart from its glitzier Noho neighbors--a shabby-chic alternative for residents and the shoppers who frequent the area. Show up without a reservation and plan to order without a menu, as the un-fussy eatery's offerings are simply listed on the chalkboard in back. An old-school jukebox elevates the already buoyant mood among bustling waiters and diners craving good food in casual environs. Favorites include the fried catfish po' boy and the jumbalaya, both served in heaping portions with fries or sauteed kale as a side.

Hits: Fast and cheap, it's one of few of its kind in an otherwise gentrified area.

Misses: Though the menu options are solid, the choices are limited.

Glad we didn't eat!

by shotzjc

We've passed this place on several occasions & wondered why we never stopped in (now I know why). We arrived in-between their Brunch & Dinner service so they were not serving food - that's OK because we just wanted to check the place out & have a drink. Well, I suppose not many people just go in this place for a drink, because the staff acted as if we were intruding on them. We asked to see a menu (just to check out the food/prices etc...etc..) this would be about the 3rd time we were informed they were not serving food - OK we get!! We got our drinks & the bartender immediately gave us the check (even after asking him to run a tab) and then proceeded to act irritated that we hadn't signed it right away! 2 other people came in & ordered drinks (which are not cheap - $9/avrg) they moved from the bar to a table & we're told promptly by the staff they could not sit there - the customers proceeded to get up & just leave their full Bloody Marys on the table - we would've done the same had the drinks not been so expensive! Final thought - this place is way overrated - and as stated before, I glad we did not eat here. There are too many places in the city that have great food /drinks & service - this place is a waste of time.

Best Bar/Restaurant in NYC

by crayolalettuce

If I could live here, I would. The food is unrepentantly Cajun. It's spicy. It's hot. It's simple. It's served up fast. Sweet potato fries. Dewar's and Spicy Ginger Ale. Best burgers ever. Crawfish that's actually from the Gulf Coast (a hard commodity to come by in NYC).

This place reminds me of every bar and restaurant I've loved in New Orleans. I'm rating the ambience at the bottom because that's how it should be.

I think I may have to go there for lunch now. Just thinking about Jones makes me hungry.

  • Pros: food drinks staff bar

Based on the other reviews, I must have went on a Off day...

by Coldsun3000

Sigh... I'm going to try to do this and not be too harsh.... I went on a early saturday evening... The place wasn't packed, we didn't even have to wait for a table. We sat down, there are no menus, everything is scribbled on some board, which my date had to turn around and damn near break her neck to see... The cornbeard everyone is talking about is sooo boring, its not good at all, And the wait was unreal... The place wasn't even full and it too, wayyyy too long of a wait. The waitress was nice enough, though. The food was just ok.. I got the catfish, which was seasoned only on one side, come on?!?! my date had the honey chicken, it was just ok/good... no where near great... To make this short, i see noooo reason to ever return.... go somewhere else... I didn't get insulted there, or anything extreme... the place was just weak, and not worth anyones time... I'm not bitter or something, just trying to save you the trip, go somewhere else, then check off that this was a helpful review...

  • Pros: No wait for a table...
  • Cons: Long wait for food!! Then, The food isn't even great?!!? Horrible Salad... Cramp area... Pass on this place... seriously
