Amazing retreat
by Karamel11 at Citysearch
Me and my mom came here for their spa week specials. I decided to get the 50min facial and my mom got the 50 min exfoliation. Upon entering we were given a locker which had sandals, a robe, a wrap and a towel. The steam room and showers were amazing...unfortunately, the sauna was out of order. We hung out in their departure lounge for a few minutes before our treatment. They had plenty of refreshments including: walnuts, almonds, trail mix, veggies and fruit. The decor of the lounge was extremely tranquil. There was a beautiful waterfall in the lounge too.... I almost forgot I was in the heart of the city. The facial was great... and my face felt amazing. The therapist explained everything to before starting the treatment and was very informative. They did the extraction for an extra $40 which was well worth it. My skin was so smooth and hydrated after the treatment My mom told me her body scrub was very invigorating and it included a mini facial. Following our treatment we relaxed in the departure lounge while sipping some tea and snacks. The spa has a no tipping policy... So our treatment were very affordable. I will definitely be back to visit this spa very soon.
- Pros: Friendly staff, Great refreshments, Serene relaxation lounge
- Cons: A little pricey
GREAT salon!
by gabster83 at Citysearch
My inital visit to this salon was for a 'brazilian' mani and pedi...I have to say that, although costly, my manicure lasted weeks! I then began using the salon services. I have to say Joseph, colorist, is AMAZING!!! My hair had about 4 different colors in it when I first started seeing him! Without dying my hair one color and doing highlights all over again he was able to get my hair color under control. Robert cut my hair and I got compliments on my hair while WEARING A HAT! Yes, a hat. My most recent visit to this salon was in August . Robert was occupied so I cut my hair with William Lemos. I have to say I've never been so happy with my haircut than when William cut it! I am sadden to report William is no longer with Devachan Salon. Ladies I know how hard it is to find a great stylist and it's an unsettling feeling to sit in a chair and trust a stranger with your hair....That's why I ask whoever is reading this review if you have ANY information as to where William is now, please let me know. He is absolutely amazing and I'd follow him to just about anywhere. If you go to this salon I HIGHLY recommend Joseph as a colorist and Robert for a cut.
- Pros: trendy

THE WORST HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE.... SHOULD BE NO STARS!
by veronicac at Citysearch
Absolutely The WORST HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE.
This haircut is an absolute mess.
It's f'd up in soo many ways it's unbelievable.
One side is completley different than the other. Regardless there are not two hairs on my head that are the same length. It is a random crazy mess but they leave soo much conditioner and product in your hair that when you walk out of the salon you have no idea what is going on with the cut. I have waited a year of growing my hair out to get cut again and I am deva-stated at how screwed up my hair is.
It needs to be recut immediately. This "technique" of theirs is just wrong. Look at pictures of Lorraine Massey's hair... This style is straight out of the 80's and that is exactly what you look like when you leave. You wash out the product and you look like a poodle on Cr@ck.
My friends were calling me Jeri-Curl when I met them after my Devachan appointment!!
Please stay away. Luciana was my stylist and she has got to be the single most arrogant person that has ever touched my head..and I've been to them all i.e. Bumble & Bumble, Roy Tealuck etc. I would've done better randomly chopping my hair myself. When I called to complain they gave me the run around, promised a manager would call me and no-one ever did!! I Want my money back.
P.S. I suspect that LUCIANA is leaving her own reviews, all of her reviews use all caps on her name. Coincidence?
- Pros: none
- Cons: Ruined my hair
Best Salon for Curly Hair
by jesxo at Citysearch
Devachan salon is Awesome!! Best cut and color i have EVER had... Robert cut my hair dry (i have always had my hair cut wet) but a dry cut is definatly the way to go with curly hair. Rachel was my Colorist she painted highlights onto my hair (which i also have never had done) in my experiences i have always had tin foiled highlights. The painting is amazing for all you curly girls out there! I highly reccomend devachan!
An absolute heaven for curly girls! Thank you Devachan!

I normally do not write reviews, but my choice in choosing Devachan was based on a lot of research and I hope this will be helpful to others. As a business owner myself in the beauty field, I understand the value of customer service and satisfaction when it comes to ones appearance. Devachan deserves a spotlight as "THE" place to go for curly hair . I have botticelli-like curls which I have embraced, and cared for for over 25 years. I have gone to the same hairdresser for most of those years who always did a great job. However, after a recommendation about their products, my hair was even better! I used them for a year, watched the video and educated myself. Finally, I decided to make a change and I am so glad that I did! I was recommended to Jackie who is so wonderful and talented. She has a natural approach to hair and beauty and spent so much time with me. She prescribed me a regime with the products and gave me the best cut. I have always spent a lot of time and money on my hair. I have spent up to $250 consistently for haircuts without thinking twice, but my hair has never looked this beautiful. The curls are silky, soft, and shiny. Devachan is very academic in their approach and they truly know curly hair. Many stylists make it 'difficult' to care for curly hair and it doesn't have to be. I have always been told that my hair had to be shorter to keep the bouncy curls... not true. Jackie did exactly what I wanted. Kept it long and gave my curls incredible life. Treat yourself and get an education from Devachan. I have read that people thought the staff was not attentive, absolutely false. They are wonderful. I have also read that they push their products, also false. You are going to the salon for their expertise and method of cutting/styling curls. Listen to them, they really know what they are doing. I can't wait to go back!
- Pros: Attentive, patient, and very knowledgeable.
- Cons: none
Not Just For Curly Hair
by sophief at Citysearch
Two friends with curly hair recommended Jeffrey. I was hesitant because my hair is mostly straight with some wave. I got a wonderful, beautiful cut and a fantastic (straight) blowout. He patiently listened to what I wanted but also had some great recommendations based on correcting my last (bad) haircut and the shape of my face as well as giving me some great tips on how to maintain my hair. I have very long hair but like it to have movement and frame my face and that's exactly what he did. My boyfriend noticed immediately and complimented me without being prompted! The entire staff was very friendly and helpful. They wash your hair while you recline which is so nice and relaxing. There's a very welcoming atmosphere especially for a high end salon. I've been to many of the high end salons in NYC and many of them are pretentious and have attitude and deliver mediocre results. This is my first review for a salon because I'm so excited I found this place and don't have to try anywhere else!
- Pros: skiled for both curly and straight hair, wash you hair while reclining
WISH I LIVED CLOSER!

I started going to Devachan about 5 years ago. My mother lives in SOHO and recommended it to me. I, however, live in Florida. I go to Devachan everytime I go in to see my mom! Antonio is an AMAZING colorist, a great conversationalist, and also has quite a sense of humor! Marvin cuts my hair (dry) and it ALWAYS looks stunning. Although the prices are quite insane, I try my best to stay faithful to Devachan because they've NEVER let me down.
- Pros: color, cut, and wash
- Cons: blowout is just so-so and usually a LOT of waiting & PRICE$$$$$$
Curly hair mecca

My experience at this salon was wonderful. The receptionist and my "cutter" were less than friendly, which was a nice balance between my colorist and the assistant who were over the top friendly.
I use all of their products and get my hair cut locally by people who trained with Lorraine et al at the salon in NY. If I find myself in NYC again I will definitely book another appointment-- for the scalp massage and the tea especially!
Hotcurlz... can you post that tea recipe?
- Pros: they really understand hair
- Cons: appointments can be lengthy
I have found my curly-hair home!!!
by hubriis at Citysearch
I have long, highlighted naturally curly hair and live in Seattle. After being up here for two years, I still hadn't found a stylist that I LOVED in Seattle so I decided to give the NYC curl salons a try the next time I was in the city. I checked the reviews for Devachan, Curlisto and Ouidad. Upon learning that Curlisto was founded by a former Ouidad-ite, I narrowed it down further and then decided upon Devachan. When I walked in, my beau's comment was "it was like you walked into the mother ship"; everyone there had and embraced their curly hair! Keith, my stylist, was a bit of a hoot - very serious and intense, to the point that he came to appear in my eyes as the Frasier Crane of hair. He asked many questions prior to picking up the scissors, and continued to ask questions and listen to my responses while cutting. He was amazing with the scissors, whipping them out and back as if his next appointment was a throwdown at the OK Corral. He zeroed in on individual locks and when he was finished, put me in the capable hands of my colorist until after my rinse. Larry, my colorist, was amazing....and the anti-Keith (but both were great in their own way!). Open and approachable, with a winning smile and a great sense of what I was looking for in my hair color. He obviously loves what he does and it showed in his attention to color. He took the time to listen to what I wanted and also made great suggestions. My "shampoo" (no-poo, really) woman was Analiese. She gave me some absolutely wonderful advice while as-gently-as-possible trying to remove knots and snarls from my long hair while wet. While I briefly came to view her as the Marquise de Sade, in the end her fabulous advice and counsel regarding how to properly care for my tresses came shining through and positively colored the entire experience. Curly girls, this is home.
Try it out!

I was eager to try this salon because I have curly hair and most stylists aren't trained specifically to cut curly hair. I heard good things and must say I was happy when I left. I found the staff to be very nice, courteous. My appointment was with Jackie whom I thought was a really nice, talented stylist. Tony washed my hair and explained everything to me. He was great. He brought me out their iced tea and it was wonderful. He even wrote the recipe for me which I really thought was sweet of him and completely unexpected! I will be back. I even found a parking garage nearby that cost me only $12 for the time I was in the salon (which is awesome in NYC). My hair looks and smells good and I am a satisfied customer!
- Pros: down to earth friendly staff
- Cons: aren't any
