Hideously bad experience

by kmaex at Citysearch

My last experience at rescue was one to remember, and I shall never return. I made my usual waxing appointment, as I was going on a beach holiday the next day. I turned up for my appointment on time, one lady showed me into one of the rooms to de -cloth myself. There I was on the bed, and to my surprise a lady walked in and handed me the paper undies, I responded, well, I am having a Brazilian so usually we don't use them. she said" oh really" which made me feel strange and slightly uncomfortable. I ask where is ****** "waxier? that I requested for the appointment? Turner out she couldn't make it. So this is where the hell begin, on the first and second tears I could tell she was not experienced and it was very painful, I had had the usual a glass of wine before hand, which would usually do the trick, but this just got worse, she pull my skin so tightly and ripped the wax so slowly and then to top it all off she wiped briskly at my skin with her sticky fingers, the pain was excruciating and she could see it in my face, just replying, sorry I know it hurts, I have never done this to anyone before, only to myself..............I was oh course mortified. By this time she said that she should NOT really continue as the skin was getting very red and irritated. By this point I couldn?t take any more, and just wanted to get out of there. I truly think rescue is overly priced anyway and managed by ignorant unprofessional people, they didn?t inform me that I wasn?t going to have my usual person, and sent a inexperienced person in to do the job, which I found out later wasn?t finished or balanced. Plus they charged me full price for it with no hesitation.

Worst nail salon in nyc

by opinegirl at Citysearch

The aweful, antiquated decor doesnt become apparent until it's too late, You wnat to run for your life but you are trapped in between the bench and the cantilevered surface in front of you. While the table may seem convient for your ipod, cell phone or a bottle of water it is really just an annoyance, it blocks the view of your toes and makes it impossible to babysit the pedicurist, and most of all see the color you have chosen. I managed to contort my body in some yoga-like way to barely catch a glimse of what was going on down there. I ask the pedicurist..." why is there a space between my cuticle and where the color starts?" Her reply, "that how all the girls want it. Not touching the cuticle" So basically your pedicure that you paid an absurd amount of money for looks grown out before you even leave the place.GREAT JOB.

  • Pros: Makes you appreciate almost every other pedicure you ever get
  • Cons: There's no place worse

Don't be fooled!!

by mtake at Citysearch

The hired manager is all about saving time. It wasn't that crowded at all. While I was getting pedicure and was still in the middle of getting top coating, I was asked to move to other place. I was moved to a table for manicure, which was fine. Then, while I was getting manicure, again the hired manager comes up, and says "I will color your nails" asking the manicurist to clean other places instead of letting her finish my manicure. When I was ready to pay and presented the manager with the gift certificate, she says "this looks expired" which had a clear valid expiration date. What's with this hired manager!! If you are owner, why would you hire somebody so unpleasant and doesn't have any idea of serving people. One positive comment I can say about this place is all the staffs who are so innocent, working so hard.

  • Pros: Staffs , Product lineup, hype
  • Cons: Selfish hired manager, Cheap scratched table, Restless atmosphere

Miserable Owner

by tryston at Citysearch

While theirs are some of the best mani/peds I've gotten, everytime I've been in there, the manicurists are berated by the appointment takers. Recently, I encountered the owner yelling at the top of her lungs at one of these women while I was standing alone in the salon waiting to be acknowledged. Clearly such unprofessional and intolerable behavior is endorsed. The manicurists are treated like slave labor. I will never go to one her salons again.

Great!

by cygne18 at Citysearch

I liked Rescue Nail Spa the first time I visited and had no problems with the great wait staff. My nails were shaped to perfection and my feet felt sooo good after the nice soak. I loved the cute atmosphere and everything was squeeky clean. Highly recommended.

Looking for something more than the corner nail place? Your search is over.

by Sandra Ramani at Citysearch

The Scene
Frustrated by the lack of clean, hip places for manicures and pedicures that use innovative products, former restaurant manager Ji Baek started Rescue in the fall of 1998. Packed into a small Nolita space, the "nail spa" has a mini reception area--where you can check out goodies from Bloom, Tony & Tina and Bobbe Pots--that opens onto three manicure stations. Beyond that are a massage and waxing room (a massage therapist is available with 48-hours notice), a brow-shaping alcove and a pedicure area.

The Services
Choose from such treatments as aromatherapy foot soaks and masques, exfoliation for hands and feet, nail tips and wraps, plus waxing and reflexology. Pedicures start with an aromatherapy foot-soak, in which relaxing or rejuvenating essential oils are added to a dried milk and sea-salt mixture. Then, depending on the treatments you choose, there will be a tingling foot masque, thorough exfoliation of dead-skin or hot-towel wrap. Manicures are much the same.

NEVER AGAIN!!!

by anabilski at Citysearch

I decided to try this salon since it looked quite nice from the outside. Upon entering you are yelled at by the rude owner who barks orders at her submissive staff. There was nothing pleasant about this place. Save your money!

Evil Owner Ruins Serene Manicure

by mrsclooney at Citysearch

I've been to Rescue on several occasions and have found the staff friendly and helpful, the setting, exceptionally clean.

The last time I was there, however, the owner was present and she ruined a manicure session that I had intended to be a peaceful one by openly and loudly berating her staff. I realize that the services provided at Rescue are more expensive than is customary and the clientele is a sophisticated one that expects the best but Ms. Baek's (she's featured prominently in local New York and national publications) behavior was awful. What a harpy! She was so disruptive I haven't returned. There are many more pleasant places to get a manicure in Manhattan.

Too much hype.

by mimi_boston at Citysearch

I would say that Rescue Nails ranks among one of the worst nail salons in terms of QUALITY. Don't get me wrong, I think that the people who work there are friendly and very accomodating, but the fact that my nails started chipping the same evening after I got them done does not sit well with me. After a mere five hours of leaving the salon, I looked down and noticed that my pointer and ring fingers were in the process of chipping off. Keep in mind that I did nothing out of the ordinary. For those of you who are interested in having a lasting manicure, please do not buy into the hype and go to Rescue. You will be disappointed, as I was. However, if all you'd like is to go to a hip place that's clean and gets the job done, Rescue's the place for you.

  • Pros: Clean, Hip, Accomodating
  • Cons: Manicure doesn't last, Hard to Find, Rushed

Do not go to this salon

by Loveheart70 at Citysearch

I agree with other people who have bad reviews about this place. It is true that they have clean tools, but the place is so small, it's really hard to find, and they rushed you, mani & pedi at the same time, I couldnt hardly move and relax. Ji didnt say hi to me, didnt say thanks when I left. The technician didnt speak any english and this is supposed to be a popular Nail Salon in NY. But the major problem is Ji, she had those "look at u down" look and she really** have a huge major attitude, well unless you're a movie start or a model then she will treat you like a Goddess. For you out there, there's tons of nail salon with a better attitude so much more than this place. It's not worth your money.

  • Pros: Clean, Stylish
  • Cons: Expensive, Rude, Cramped
