Horrible experience
by aetienne at Citysearch
I went to GJS for a brazilian wax and I will never go back.
To start, the place was ridiculously hot and humid to the point that my hair frizzed up just waiting to check in. They point you down a hallway and tell you go upstairs and the technician will be waiting for but there was no one there so I had no idea where to go. I finally found the woman that was going to do my wax and she showed me to my room which was even hotter than the check in area.
When she came in, she confirmed with me that I wanted a brazilian. Most women know the difference between a regular bikini wax and a brazilian but the technician obviously didn't because she only did the front. It's uncomfortable enough having this treatment done so you don't exactly want to jump up and say - hey, what about the back? The wax was incredibly painful and when I finally got up, I noticed that she had ripped some of my skin right off and I was bleeding. I finally went down to pay with a gift card that was sent to several people at the magazine I work for last month and they tell me that it had already been used. The guy behind the counter said he was sure that it was a mix-up on their end, the gift card numbers were probably switched and then told me to pay for the treatment. I couldn't believe that I had to pay for a wax that was half-done and left me bleeding.
Avoid at all cost. For $10 more, you can have the same treatment done at Bliss, where they don't double-dip and the people know what they are doing.

Amazing Facial

I had the best facial here to date. From the moment i sat down, everything was perfect. The women was friendly and clearly new what she was doing. Here at Great Jones spa they are very profesional and accomodating. I called last week and they were able to fit me in the following day. I definitely will be back here soon.
- Pros: Gentle and professional
- Cons: couldnt stay longer
Fading Glory

When I first stumbled upon this spa 3 years ago - I arranged a friends party there I thought I had struck gold and recommended the place to everyone. Looking back it's clear it was the luck of the draw - as since then this place has proven inconsistent at best. After the first party I organized another party, our booking was made 3 weeks prior, however when we arrived, we found out that 1 out our 6 guests would not be getting their spa treatment bc the front-desk made a mistake. That destroyed the spirit of the party and they were not even apologetic - but rather very "s*%# happens" attitude, nor did they go out of the way to make it up to our party. At this party my massage therapist May-Megan, was curt, cold and passed her hands over me like she was trying to feel the texture of my skin, rather than give a massage - had I been asleep her touch wouldn't have even woken me up. When I asked for more pressure - did I get it or what - she knocked the wind out of my lungs with a painful force! I asked for my massage to stop 45 mins into the 60 min treatment, there was no apology or question on her behalf as to why I was leaving. Most recently, one year later I called the spa to book body treatments for me and my friend - the front desk attendant Adrienne was snippy and unhelpful. I had asked (to be safe) the names of our assigned therapists - her answer was "I can only give you who I have available." As if I was bilgerantly requesting someone else!? This place is weird because it's energy can go either way, usually not the way you'd hope - and thats the last thing you want when you are paying money to relax and have a nice experience.
- Pros: Nice venue/location and facilities
- Cons: Front desk dicey service, therapist can be good or a miss

Love - Love - Love!

I absolutely love Great Jones Spa. I visit all of the time and have even had spa parties there. The level of service is to die for. You can't miss the coed pools, sauna, and steam room. There is absolutely no better way to spend a frigid NYC winter weekend day in NYC in my opinion.
- Pros: Great Service, Great Spa Menu, Great Amenities
- Cons: Book early - they tend to be booked if you need a last minute kneading
Great spa experience

I received a gift card to Great Jones Spa for Christmas and I feel like I really found a hidden gem of a spa downtown! The steam room was awesome and my facial was so nice and relaxing. My skin has been glowing for days now! I definitely recommend this spa if you are looking for a mini escape from the city!
- Pros: Steam Room, Hot Tub, Strong jets, facials were great
Fabulous Spa- a real treat!
by Karaly23 at Citysearch
Great Jones is definitely top 10 spas in NYC, best one downtown for sure. My massage was so relaxing. The facilities were very clean and nice. Yummy tea and trail mix while you relax. The steam room is huge as well as the hot tub. I went with a small group of girls and we all had the best time. I heard the facials are great but only had a massage. next time!
- Pros: clean nice modern relaxing
- Cons: None
Hands Down One of the Top Spas in NYC
by rosieroth at Citysearch
I have been to to many spas and Great Jones Spa is by far the best. The steam room is big, spacious, HOT and steamy. LOVE IT. The hot tub is large enough for a group and the plunge pool....well that is COLD. I took a plunge into the ice cold pool and it REALLY does invigorate. But aside from all the amenities, my massage was amazing. It was quiet, relaxing and deep tissue. i couldn't ask for anything else. I have been to several spas uptown that are much more expensive. Great Jones is the best and a great price. Five Points next door is wonderful for brunch afterwards- make a resi though!
- Pros: Clean, Modern
What an AMAZING Water Lounge
by Karamel11 at Citysearch
Great Jones spa is absolutely amazing. The water lounge alone makes it worth the trip. The spa week specials included a wash/blowout or mani/pedi. I chose the mani/pedi which included 3 hour use of the water lounge. The jacuzzi, sauna and steam room are huge... you can sit comfortably inside without the feeling of it being overcrowded. There's water with lemon, fruit, nuts/seeds and tea available as well. The decor inside is wonderful, with the waterfall and beautiful plants I almost forgot I was in the city. The spa was relaxing and I will definitely be back very soon.
- Pros: The Water Lounge
