Gregg for Hair at Great Jones Spa
by Beth K
I have been going to Gregg Tusler for years now for my hair. Gregg is incredible. He is a perfectionist and takes his time to make sure your hair is exactly as it should be and how you want it. He doesn't go too far or recommend treatments that you shouldn't have, but he still has a great flair for style and the current looks. I recently moved away from New York, and I will be visiting New York about every 8 weeks, give or take... If you book Gregg, you won't be disappointed, but be prepared to get hooked!
Great Hair Color & Style
by ebweis
At the top of the stairs at The Great Jones Spa is one of the hidden treasure in NYC...Gregg the hair stylist. I schedule my trips to NYC so that I can go to Gregg for a color and cut. And I live in Salt Lake City! Besides being a true hair artist, Gregg is a wonderful person whom I thoroughly enjoy. He makes my hair appointment an occasion I eagerly anticipate.
Best Hidden Treasure In The Middle of NYC!
by Volley13
This spa is AMAZING!!! When I first entered the spa, the customer service was fantastic. I was warmly greeted and signed in for my service. I got a full tour of the facility since it was my first time there and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The best thing is that this place has a wonderful water oasis that includes, a large hot tub, sauna and relaxing chairs - right in the middle of Manhattan. We spent the entire day at Great Jones so we also ended up enjoying some tasty food at their juice bar. The menu there is really big for a spa and the food was really good. I enjoyed a fresh fruit smoothly (made right in front of me) as well as a yogurt cup with fresh organic fruit and granola. The wraps, salads and sandwiches looked really yummy and lots of people were ordering them and saying that they were great. The locker rooms were clean and the massage I got was great. I will definitely continue to go here - it's a great hidden treat in the middle of NYC. It's now on our MUST GO TO LIST every time we travel to New York. I also think it says alot when alot of locals go to a business - shows great brand loyalty, which this place has.
Do NOT waste your time on $104.50 Cookies!
by DMC1372
Wanting some relaxing time in a sauna, my fiance and I went to the Great Jones Spa which is local to our home.
At first we were loving the place. The decor is nice and the set up is great.
20 minutes into our time there, I left the sauna and passed a table of food. On the table there was a bunch of different things and cookies. I could not help myself. I took a cookie and went back into the sauna. Passing two employees and telling them that the cookie was good.
20 more minutes pass and I leave the sauna, on the way back in I see the cookies and take not one, but two cookies. An employee standing nearby asks me not to touch them and at this time I notice a sign saying happy birthday dorene. So I drop the cookies, he asks me to toss them out, so I do.Then head back into the sauna.
A few minute pass and I leave the room again, passing the guy now guarding the cookies and I say dont worry I am not touching your cookies, half joking. He proceeds to tell me that he has spoke to the other staff and knows that I am stealing cookies. This conversation goes back and forth for a few minutes of him acusing me of stealing these cookies.
I leave the floor and head back up to the front desk. Explain the them what is happening. They pull him aside and he now flat out lies that I stealing cookies!
So now I have spent 104.50 for 3 hours at the spa and he thinks I am stealing cookies!!!
I packed up and left. Called the Visa card and put a block on the charge.
There was no mention from the manager or any attempt to be gracious about the incident.
Way to many places like this that are staffed by more gracious people for me to waste a dime on this place. Shows you how your staff choice can really change the place you visit.
Horrible Customer Service
by Achan
Booked an appointment 3 weeks ago with a specific masseuse, showed up today to find out they canceled my appointment the day before because they called another customer to confirm my appointment. If this is the first time it happened I would excuse it but it's the second time they have canceled on me without notifying me and also had problems another time when I specifically requested for a female masseuse to find that they booked with with a male masseuse. I have also received gift certificate for their spa and the only way they can find that certificate on their system is if you reference the purchaser's name, not the recipient so basically, you can't have it linked to your account.
Then one time I was there, people actually got out of the hot tub because there was some pinkish thing floating around, so how clean is it there really!!!
I don't know if it's their stupid staff or their stupid computer system but either way, if they don't upgrade to better service, they will just keep pissing people off.
- Cons: receptionists not friendly and not helpful
Horrible experience
by aetienne
I went to GJS for a brazilian wax and I will never go back.
To start, the place was ridiculously hot and humid to the point that my hair frizzed up just waiting to check in. They point you down a hallway and tell you go upstairs and the technician will be waiting for but there was no one there so I had no idea where to go. I finally found the woman that was going to do my wax and she showed me to my room which was even hotter than the check in area.
When she came in, she confirmed with me that I wanted a brazilian. Most women know the difference between a regular bikini wax and a brazilian but the technician obviously didn't because she only did the front. It's uncomfortable enough having this treatment done so you don't exactly want to jump up and say - hey, what about the back? The wax was incredibly painful and when I finally got up, I noticed that she had ripped some of my skin right off and I was bleeding. I finally went down to pay with a gift card that was sent to several people at the magazine I work for last month and they tell me that it had already been used. The guy behind the counter said he was sure that it was a mix-up on their end, the gift card numbers were probably switched and then told me to pay for the treatment. I couldn't believe that I had to pay for a wax that was half-done and left me bleeding.
Avoid at all cost. For $10 more, you can have the same treatment done at Bliss, where they don't double-dip and the people know what they are doing.

by brett03
I had the best facial here to date. From the moment i sat down, everything was perfect. The women was friendly and clearly new what she was doing. Here at Great Jones spa they are very profesional and accomodating. I called last week and they were able to fit me in the following day. I definitely will be back here soon.
- Pros: Gentle and professional
- Cons: couldnt stay longer
Fading Glory

When I first stumbled upon this spa 3 years ago - I arranged a friends party there I thought I had struck gold and recommended the place to everyone. Looking back it's clear it was the luck of the draw - as since then this place has proven inconsistent at best. After the first party I organized another party, our booking was made 3 weeks prior, however when we arrived, we found out that 1 out our 6 guests would not be getting their spa treatment bc the front-desk made a mistake. That destroyed the spirit of the party and they were not even apologetic - but rather very "s*%# happens" attitude, nor did they go out of the way to make it up to our party. At this party my massage therapist May-Megan, was curt, cold and passed her hands over me like she was trying to feel the texture of my skin, rather than give a massage - had I been asleep her touch wouldn't have even woken me up. When I asked for more pressure - did I get it or what - she knocked the wind out of my lungs with a painful force! I asked for my massage to stop 45 mins into the 60 min treatment, there was no apology or question on her behalf as to why I was leaving. Most recently, one year later I called the spa to book body treatments for me and my friend - the front desk attendant Adrienne was snippy and unhelpful. I had asked (to be safe) the names of our assigned therapists - her answer was "I can only give you who I have available." As if I was bilgerantly requesting someone else!? This place is weird because it's energy can go either way, usually not the way you'd hope - and thats the last thing you want when you are paying money to relax and have a nice experience.
- Pros: Nice venue/location and facilities
- Cons: Front desk dicey service, therapist can be good or a miss
