i have a 1967 coronet, been to countless mechanics and only until i found Gus has me car been running the way i should be. His knowledge and passion for his work truly shined in turning my car to the vintage machine it was meant to be. I would find this man going far beyond what he was paid for just to make sure it ran better than my expectations.
Pros: everything

Ok, so you are saying what makes ZP so great? Well #1.. they don't rip you off.. #2..they do what they say.. #3.. they won't work on your car until they go over what is needed with you...they are without a doubt the best in New York!!!! ...If you are a car owner, this one is a no brainer....

These guys are awesome! Equally adept at diagnosing issues with my new vehicles as well as my classics, they are the only mechanics which I trust with all my auto needs (and there are many). I found this shop some 10 years ago and have never been disappointed since. Their prices are exceedingly fair and they spare no effort to track down hard to find parts for my classic cars and get me great prices, at below dealer costs. I recommend this shop to all my friends and they recommend it to theirs! Give them a try!

Cons: none

Manhattan can be a tough place to get a car fixed quickly and reasonably, but not if you know ZP Auto. Owners Gus and Elaine and their wonderful crew (Ermil and others) have taken care of my last four cars, over many decades, keeping each running for well over 100,000 miles. Gus is a mechanical genius, and Elaine expertly manages the front office to make sure that the correct parts arrive when needed. Just don’t tell everyone - if everyone knew about this gem, you couldn’t get in. The people at Z-P explain things in a clear and friendly way, are totally honest, get your car out with dispatch and at a fair price, and stand behind their work. There is no better repair shop in Manhattan (or probably in all of New York). But please, only tell your very best friends.

If you don't want to be ripped off, want reliable no nonsense service, and someone to explain your problems in a language you can understand then ZP auto is the only place in NYC to go. I have been a customer for 15 years and don't go any place else. Gus has taken impeccable care of all of my trucks, cars, and vans, and made them run when they should have been junked. He and Elaiyne have been solution oriented in helping me to make the best and most cost effective decisions to maintain a small fleet over the years. Being a business owner myself I can appreciate great customer service, because it's what defines you from the masses and what keeps customers coming back. Gus and Elaiyne know that because they don't nickle and dime you to death, they don't do costly unneccessary work and they appreciate the value of your dollar. The place gets busy, but they'll make the time for you if your in a bind and they deliver when they say they will. FYI Gus's charm and Elaiyne's wit are free of charge!
Pros: Your car's problems get fixed!
Cons: can't think of any

I've used ZP for years now and not that often because any time I've had a problem with my Toyota, it has been fixed promptly, correctly, and at a price that is always less than I have expected. I've never had to get anything refixed that ZP has originally fixed. I would never use another mechanic, because I've never been screwed by these guys and they've always done the job right the first time. 2 thumbs up for ZP.

I found them honest and did a great job. Aside from obviously fixing the car in a timely fashion, they kept me aware of what was going on, gave me options and prices with each.
Pros: Great work and great communications
Cons: City prices

This is a long review, so here is a summary of the problems I had with ZP: 1) Incorrectly replaced a 10 amp fuse with a 30 amp fuse. 2) Put the blown 10 amp fuse in the fuse box as a spare. 3) Replaced my alternator, which was working perfectly. 4) Put in a refurbished alternator without telling me. My tail lights were not working. I replaced a blown 10 amp fuse, but it blew again. I read positive reviews about ZP, so I brought it to them. Gus was immediately available, friendly, and able to quickly diagnose my problem. I was told I would need a new alternator. They put in a refurbished alternator without telling me, but the price ($460) was reasonable and a new alternator would have been more expensive. The customer service was very good, and the work was done on time. Then the problems began... The first thing that was odd was that he said he had to replace the 10 amp fuse with a 30 amp fuse. The next evening as I was leaving for vacation, I noticed that although the tail lights were now working, the reverse lights were also on. After loading my luggage, I closed the trunk, and the tail lights shut off. I couldn't get them back on, so I left for my 400 mile trip, at night, with my 2 children in the car, and no tail lights. This trip ended up with me getting pulled over in New Hampshire by the State Police, but at least I didn't get a ticket. While on vacation I had no mechanic available, so I took a book out of the local library. With a voltmeter, a soldering iron, and 50 cents worth of electrical tape, I was able to find the problem in my wiring and repair my lights. I also replaced the 30 amp fuse with the correct 10 amp fuse. I took the time to read about alternators, and I cannot figure out why Gus would suggest replacing the alternator. An alternator would never cause only the tail lights to go out, while correctly recharging the battery. I can only conclude that he is either incompetent or dishonest.
Pros: Customer service, price, timeliness
Cons: Incompetent or dishonest

Our previously newfound trusty mechanic had unfortunately relocated. So, we had to find a new one in the city. Couldn't be happier with these guys. From start to finish, a fine experience. Elaine was more than happy to discuss what I was looking for over the phone and answer my many questions and concerns. She happily went over the list I brought in with me. They called within 2 hours of me dropping off the car and went over everything they found and the work they thought should be done. We were looking to get some long overdue work done, knew it would cost some good money, but didn't want to go too far. Elaine's estimate was right on and the price was more than fair. We've found our new go-to mechanic in the city. Car is running like new!
Pros: Fast, Friendly, Reliable & Elaine
Cons: None

Gus is a magician at keeping fine cars running tip top. If you care about your car, there is no better place than ZP to have it fixed or serviced. My vintage Mercedes purrs like new thanks to ZP's TLC. I am impressed with the skills and knowledge of every employee there. I have brought cars to them needing everything from a complete overhaul to a recommendation for the right tires. No one knows cars and the entire business better than Gus and Elaine. - - A long-time customer.
