Although they've recently raised their prices (by about 10-20 cents), Tai Pan still offers a great deal for pastries, bread, drinks, and food. I usually get the coconut buns and the chicken curry buns. The bigger cakes (for birthdays or parties) are also very good and cheap compared to other stores. They also have good coffee and tea. The place is always crowded but the checkout girls are usually fast and the lines move rapidly. You just have to be aggressive and flag down the person who doles out the bread for you. I've been frequenting Tai Pan since I moved to NYC in 1998 and am always satisfied with their products.
