Great 'old man' bar! by Andrea B. at InsiderPages

I agree with the previous review saying that the food and wait staff is friendly here. It's a great place to head to if you work in the Lower West Side. It's kind of a random spot for a bar, so you really don't get the touristy pop-ins!

This pub, located in an out-of-the-way section of the West side of Manhattan is a true hidden gem with it's friendly wait staff, cozy atmosphere, great beer selection, and pretty good pub-style food.

I've been a fan of the Emerald Pub burgers since 2001, and have been a fairly regular customer until May 2, 2008. Our last visit was such an utter disappointment, I have vowed never to return.
Despite the fact that the place was empty, save the two patrons at the bar, no one acknowledged our presence and we sat ourselves at a table. After a while the bartender/waitress finally took our order, went to the kitchen to submit it, and never brought our drinks. My friend, (recovering from knee surgery) had to hobble up to the bar to get her beer, as the waitress admittedly had forgotten to open the two Amsel Lights we had ordered. The fries looked and tasted like they were cooked a day ago, and had been micro-waved. (I lifted one and it bent over at a 90 degree angle.)
At no time did the waitress come by to ask how we enjoyed our meal, or if we needed anything, and after we had motioned for two more beers from her, my friend once again felt compelled to limp to the bar to retrieve round #2. I remind the reader that at this point there was a grand total of SEVEN people in the place, and it became apparent that she was more interested in chatting up the two regulars sitting at the end of the bar than doing her job.
The only way to summarize this experience was that we felt more like unwanted party crashers than welcome guests, and I had to convince my friend to let me leave a 10 percent tip.

This is a good spot. The staff is pretty cool, the patrons are there to have fun and the music is varied. The bartenders will buy back if you are cool with them. Its nothing fancy, but that's probably why it remains cool.

Came across Emerald Pub by accident, but a great accident it was. We were supposed to have a party next door at Anchor Bar, but they ended up being very unaccommodating, so we moved our party of 50+ people over next door to Emerald Pub. Bartenders and staff were friendly and they played good music - all you really need to start the night off right. Despite lacking air conditioning, we just hung around outside for a breather and everyone had a great night.
- Pros: Friendly, casual, fun

When I first came to this place, all I can say is I fell in love. The drinks are great and the food is damn good. All I have to say is No. 1. The Owner is awesome. The bar staff are just to great for words. I can come here at anytime and I know what to expect. The atmosphere is friendly as hell. That is why I decided to have my Birthday get together at Emerald's.
Again, all I gotta say is awesome.

Best Bar in Soho

It's really true! Emerald is one of the few unoffensive 'neighborhood places' left in Soho or the West Village. It's a place you can go to with your friends or colleagues to drink, have a burger (or a veggie burger) and also have the bar tenders call you by your first name. Just because it's "unhip," as the citysearch review says, that doesn't mean it isn't classy and comfy. It's also never hooliganish (like so many bars in the village have become). Open a tab at 7pm and play with the jukebox till 1am, you won't be disappointed!
- Pros: Great bartenders! Great Jukebox! Great Happy Hour!
- Cons: Kitchen isn't always open
A rock in Soho.

In Short
Remaining resolutely unhip has proved the key to the bar's multi-decade status as a reliable neighborhood watering hole. While other Soho hot spots come and go, the good folks at Emerald Pub sling hearty grub and reasonably priced pints in a friendly, comfortable--if not especially exciting--atmosphere. Carb up and swill your fill, and you won't have to shell out for nearly as many $14 martinis later in the evening.
Great Happy Hour

I started working with a new company down on Hudson and Canal and for the last 6 months i have been frequenting this bar on Spring for happy hour. All drinks are 1/2 price from 5pm to 8pm everyday. Nowhere in Soho makes more of an effort for happy hour! Although the outside is neglected and might keep you away, the quality and Good service will keep anybody who enters coming back for more. Good Job Irish Bar.
- Pros: music, bartenders, sound
- Cons: toilet
Best music in nyc

Me and a bunch of the guys moved to NYC a few months ago from Chicago. We stumbled on this bar called the emerald pub on our way to another club across the st. I have to say i was a little knocked back as the place was kicking when we went in and in the end we decided to stay cos the music was the best i've heard since we came to the city. Not only that, but the bartenders were stunning and showed none of the nyc attitude i'm so tired of seeing. I'm glad to see places like this are still around!
- Pros: Hot Bartenders, Lighting, Best Music
- Cons: Toilets small
