Attacked By Manager

by anthonyerice

I friend suggested we meet here for drinks. What a MISTAKE. I arrive, lock-up my bike curbside to a newly planted tree. I walk in with a smile and was immediately confronted by a woman flailing her arms and yelling at me. She demanded that I move my bike because I was "kiliing her tree". She exclaimed that she is the Manager. My bike has a Centermount Kickstand and stands completely erect. I placed a 1-lb U-lock around the tree, causing it no stress or pain. I tried to calmly and rationally explain this to her but she was just not listening. Out of courtesy to my friend, I proceeded to have drinks. The wine was good, but the service was poor, and when you're spending $10.00 on each glass of wine, you expect more from the staff. Strangely, there were also flies hovering over our table. It was almost like a Seinfeld episode. Bottom line, there are a plethora of other restaurants in the area that will welcome you and your business better. Oh, and on my way out, the manager made sure to get in one more rude comment, then wished us a good night.

  • Pros: Location
  • Cons: rude ruDE rUDE-Oh, and did I mention RUDE!

Going strong

by CSMobileUser

Felix is Brazilian French fusion that makes it a standout for people in the mood to enjoy mojitos and eggs florentine while listening to high energy samba mixed house on a Sunday afternoon. Great crowd and serivce was good ... ignore the other reviews this place rocks

This Soho bistro is an ex-pat's oasis

by Melanie Berliet

Classic French eats like moules frites and salade nicoise dominate the menu--written in marker across aged mirrors, in classic bistro fashion. But show up for brunch and you're likely to consume more alcohol than food. Felix is always raucous during weekend afternoons, as the crowd--comprised of ex-pats, wannabe ex-pats and anyone else who prefers futbol to football--revel together in drunkenness, in the name of nothing in particular. Waiters, each donning the standard "Je t'aime Felix" blue and yellow tee, struggle to dodge tables set close together while satisfying the constant demand for yet another round.

Overly hyped, service bad, waiters unfriendly - go to McDees!

by Lonas

My friends and I made a reservation at 3pm on a Saturday (actual date was 16th of May '09). Two fellows were sitting at a table and were just talking and drinking up their cocktails. We were already standing in queue for 30 minutes after 3 o'clock, and we complained to the manager to which she replied: "these people are paying over 200 bucks". Suddenly the waiter went to their table, making them leave. So first they kicked the poor guys out and then they even p*ssed us off when we asked for why our table wasn't cleared at 3pm when it was supposed to be?! - This was probably a bad start, now you think it will get better?

Think again. But to make the long story short the food was okay, the service was bad. It took them hours to bring our food. The waiter did not even know who ordered which and he mixed it up.

At the end we were figuring out our bill. The waitress sarcastically asked us if we were having problems with the bill or was she really telling us to hurry and get out. Like the two poor people before us, a waiter also came to our table and said that there was a group watiing for the table so we had to leave. How RUDE is that?

If your plan is to go there - rather go McDees, their food is equally average, cheaper, waiters are friendlier, and you won't be thrown out after 25 minutes.

  • Pros: food average
  • Cons: takes forever to be seated even with reservation

Um, skip it . . . go down the street and eat somewhere else instead.

by Alicecurious

I could not agree more with the last two reviewers? comments and complaints. If I didn?t have a job stopping me from doing so, I would voluntarily stand outside of Felix and direct potential patrons elsewhere ALL day and night. A friend and I went there last night and were so disappointed we were tempted to just throw a $50 on the table without even waiting for the dawdling waitress to bring the check. The server spoke almost no English and had to ask my friend for his drink order FOUR times, (a vodka gimlet ? not exactly a feat of modern mixology) before walking away just shaking her head. Our food, which was brought to the table even before our water glasses were filled with dirty tap water, was abominable. His salmon tartare could not have looked, smelled or tasted less appetizing short of coming out of a Fancy Feast can. My miniscule chunks of burnt goat cheese were only marginally more edible. Do yourself a favor if in the neighborhood: Go to Lucky Strike or Cafe Noir, both on the same block, and both much much better.

  • Pros: Location
  • Cons: Also location -- close to much better places. Food, service.

WORST service ever

by jr0101

Waiter was extremely rude from the moment we were seated. I ordered a cup of coffee, which was never refilled (neither were the glasses of water at the table). We had to ask for the bill 3 times--be prepared to pay in cash. Food was ok--there are many other restaurants in the city with much better food and infinitely better service.

The service really ruined the experience--for me to create an account to write a review...it was THAT bad.

Felix is not a happy place, no matter its titular suggestion.

by drunkwithlife

In a city where being the exception is the only route to success, I sympathize with the challenges of proprietors of a mediocre restaurant whose only draw is location. The food is mediocre; the service the worst I have ever had the displeasure of submitting to. We told our waiter we had come to eat appetizers, drink, and sample the dessert menu. Before I chewed the last fry, another waiter came to take the empty plates. We asked to see a dessert menu. One of the waitstaff curtly refused us our dessert, suggesting our conception of a meal was nothing more than barroom ?munchy.? Frustratingly, upon trying to re-order dessert, our initial waiter re-iterated the restaurant?s need to free our two top (seating three). We should have just left. But this affront to our modest expectations of hospitality ignited within us an obstinate need to complete our meals as we had originally intended: with dessert. We noticed a smiling exception to the waitstaff who finally took our order. I found the manager and explained my consternation at the audacity of the waiter?s treating us like he was a bouncer at a college bar. Focused on cleaning his eyeglasses, he shrugged and mumbled something without making eye contact that didn?t sound like an apology but more like an admonishment for our concept of a night out, reminding me it was a Saturday night. I have never come across such a disregard of basic human hospitality and manners. I recognize the need to turn tables. But I also recognize what should be the overwhelming priority of hospitable decorum. Not only was it downright rude to threaten to kick us out of the restaurant, it doesn?t make any sense in terms of dollars. Happily, many Manhattan restaurants still prescribe to standards of service and etiquette, and we were able to salvage our Saturday night. I urge any readers of my paltry review to forego Felix?s average food and terrible service. In other words, don?t go there.

Mediocre service, food

by kneering

I stumbled upon this place with friends last Easter Sunday and couldn't have had more fun at the bar. So this year we decided to eat there as well and make a day of it. The location is cool, and the room is fun, even though space is tight. Our waiter was a total sweetheart but forgot our water, brought more cocktails when we didn't ask, etc. The food came out quick and it was not good. My fries were soggy and eggs benedict extremely runny. Ugh, I'm still thinking about it. They couldn't get our tab closed fast enough, but I understood that because the place was crazy busy. We closed the tab and continued to drink at the bar. That was fun, the bartender was very cute. Overall I think this place is "cool" in terms of its vibe and the fact that everyone there is French, but when it comes down to it, the service and food are absolutely nothing to write home about.

  • Pros: Cool French vibe, downtown hipsters
  • Cons: Bad food, spotty service

horrible horrible waitress

by yusun

first of all, food was okay for regular brunch but there are so many other places to go for so much better service with that level of food in NYC. Simply, we were still eating when this waitress threw the check on our table without saying whenever you are ready or anything. She was just keep checking our table giving us this look to leave, finally i asked her if she meant us stop eating and leave and she said she just trying to turn table as much as she could but hello, your customer has not even finished their food and the food arrived 10 min ago.

just simply not worth it to go there and pay even a cent. forget this place. you have so many other options to choose around that area.

People Watching yes, and good food!

by sharonbella33

The place is packed on a Sat afternoon, but it is great for people watching. Personally, I really did like this place, the restaurant has a trendy feel and yummy food. Nothing too heavy, where you feel sick after leaving. The wines are great too... I recommend this place to everyone!
