cheap eats, good food

by daveseats

One of my favorite places to go to if I'm looking to get filled up for under $15 a person. Service is quick and the place feels cleaner then most of the other joints in the neighborhood. I always get an order of the crispy spring rolls and then one of the rice vermicelli dishes. Add in the low price beers and this place is the type of restaurant that people should have in the back pockets if they can't decide on a place to go out and eat.

  • Pros: low priced and affordable, good quality

Great Ambiance, Great food, Good Prices

by Jdbx

I recently visited Thaison and was surprised by how friendly the waiters were. Which isn't the norm in ChinaTown. As I browsed their selection I found a lot of appealing options ranging from Vietnamese calamari to their frog legs in chili. I ordered veggie spring rolls with Rice Vermicelli and lettuce. I absolutely loved everything, but the veggie spring rolls. Although my friends non-veggie spring rolls were amazing. The place had some great music. I could recognized many of the songs (although in Vietnamese) and found myself bopping to the beat while eating. The food came out fast and filled us all up. I would return in a heartbeat and highly recommend it.

Great Bun bo Hue, only on weekends though

by blacksheep69

Decent service, sort of "Americanized" VN food (in a good way) ex. most americans don't like cooked ***** (word for the red stuff that your heart pumps, yeah this web site will not let me use the word bl**d) chunks in thier bun bo Hue for example. Great Bo luc Lac. go there, you will enjoy. My wife is VN and i am well versed in VN cuisene, this joint ranks up there with the best in VN NYC FYI - Bun bo hue is a spicey (Hue style) pork feet rice noodle soup, if you hve never tried it and like your Pho spicey, then you must thry Bun bo hue.

  • Pros: Good food, decent service and Ba Ba (33) beer
  • Cons: parking is tough.

YUM YUM YUM!

by littleegg

Great prices, delicious and authentic cuising, and a good list of Vietnamese beers make this Chinatown spot the only good choice for Vietnamese food. I have been going there for years and the odd decorations and sometimes slow service will never stand in my way of great papaya salad, amazing folded lettuce entrees and a fun club soda lemonade. This is a favorite of visitors from out of town and friends of mine that think they know New York alike. I always love taking people to this place for their first time.

  • Pros: Delicious. And at that price.
  • Cons: The atmosphere and bathroom hygiene leave a lot to be desired

Great Viet In Chinatown

by b00pi3flak3s

Its Viet and its in Chinatown -- hence you'll have a little bit of a both in the Chinese speaking Vietnamese waiters. There is no denying the food is scrumptious and the prices are decent. Don't skip on Thaison, its worth a try.

Bad experience

by dabenzhu

I went to this place this afternoon and made an order for 'take out'. I didn't expect any good service, since it was just a 'take out'. However, 10 minutes later I was still standing before the frontdesk and looked at people, who came in later than me, enjoying their food. I got some not polite replies, when I tried to remind them. Maybe, that's the way they deal with people without seat, but I will definitely refuse this manner. I left this res with money back. I hope everybody can be aware of their bad service (not food, but attitude).

chinese version of vietnamese

by vtnguy

heard rave reviews from my friends about this restaurant and had high hopes going in. . .prices were average but the food was definately not authentic. went with my parents (we're vietnamese) and were disappointed with the fare. they were skimpy with meat/filling for the bi cuon, spring rolls, and egg rolls and the pho was average. to top if off, they didn't even use the right type of noodles for the bun thit nuong. all in all, i have to say the west coast rules when it comes to good, cheap, authentic vietnamese food.

  • Pros: affordable, good fish sauce
  • Cons: not authentic

Decent for the Price

by contacting_a

I found the food to be pretty good, although not the best Vietnamese food I've had. The spring rolls could use a little less dough and more filling. And the service is a bit shaky. Everything comes all at once, and it takes forever to get more water... and you will get thirsty after eating all that fish sauce!

  • Pros: Inexpensive, Location, Food
  • Cons: , Poor Service

GREAT SERVICE!

by eastside78

This place is fabulous- The pho is excellent, and the summer rolls are very fresh. The vermicelli dishes are also excellent. I went there for a birthday recently, and the staff was so nice! They helped with a cake we had brought, turned down the restaurant lights, and all joined in singing happy b-day! I'd highly recommend Thai Son for their food and service!
