Friendly place to go with friends

by sharonpa

Good food, good wine at reasonable prices with really friendly service thrown in. What more can you ask? Sure it's not the best food in the City, but then you're not paying for it either. Just a fun friendly place to go with friends. Wish there were more like it.

  • Pros: food,price,wine

Comfortable local tavern

by ddecavai

Went on Thursday Sept4 for dinner in the front bar room. Walkers is exactly what you want from a local neighborhhod tavern- Food that doesn't try too hard, but is exactly what you expect at reasonable prices, and a good crowd mix. $6.50 for a tap beer is a little steep but ...

It would be a nice upgrade to improve the TV's so I could watch a game with a beer, but the friendly atmosphere makes up for it. Service is ok and is not supposed to be Le Cirque or move you through a meal in 30 minutes.

  • Pros: rust right tavern, on-target menu
  • Cons: small tv and $6.50 tap beer

Good food, service ehhh

by krystyna03

I live in the neighboorhood and had this restaurant recommended to me by a friend, and I finally went yesterday. The cheeseburger I had was awesome, and the bacon I added was even better. The Mac n' Cheese was a full meal, with ham and brocolli and it was quite good. It was the perfect restaurant for those types of comfort foods done really well. However, the service was spotty, ranging from our own waiter disappearing for long periods of time (only to see him yacking on his cell phone out the window) to our fill-in waitress who was on top of her game. The food was very reasonably priced but the beer on tap fell a little short. Despite ranking it average, I would definitely recommend the restaurant to one of my friends if they were in the mood for a pint and a sandwhich (especially if they want an artery blocking heap of bacon on top!!).

  • Pros: food, prices
  • Cons: waitstaff was less than hospitable at times

Best Meats in the area.

by fullartist

I just stopped by for a quick lunch only to learn the restaurant had been closed for a couple of days for repairs and that they are reopening this evening for dinner. I love the ambience of the place and find the food and the service to be outstanding plus it is affordable. Their meats are just amazing and the special will make you have more than one meal. Let's stop by tonight to show them that me missed their food. Love the bar more when Stephen is tending it.

  • Pros: Great Value for your money
  • Cons: Only serve a limited menu in the afternoon after lunch and before dinner

Back when I growing up...

by connoisseurextraordinaire

I was lucky enough to have grown up in Tribeca, back when you could walk around with a slingshot and shoot at Stop signs and not be scared you'd dink a Mercedes. Walkers and it's sister restaurant the Ear Inn on Spring St. are two places I remember my uncle taking me to. In contrast to other restaurants in the area ( and the neighborhood itself) Walkers has maintained its solemn old pub character. These are places where as a kid, growing up you'd graduate from burgers and fries, to mussels and crabcakes, to learning what all the different types of dinner dishes are without feeling out of place or that you had to act a certain way. My end to it is that Walker's is the type of place that at least this amateur editor feels you have to view through a wide focus lens. While many restaurants in the area are current and chic, there a timeless character at Walker's that will win out.

  • Pros: Good Food, Cheap, a place wear suits and people in sweats can sit together.
  • Cons: People who expect it to be like every other restaurant in the area

we miss you jude

by biscuitbadger

this place used to be great, the food was always pretty good hearty stuff but wow has it fallen apart. the food now is really average and so overpriced. Seamus is the only saving grace. the service is lousy, unfriendly and usually appears to be "medicated". Jude the old chef was the heart of the joint, now its got none.

  • Cons: service and food

Another one bites the dust

by vitta

I've been dining here for over 6 years, been a regular for over 4. Something AWFUL has happened to this joint where, up until recently, they had the best casual food (killer mashed potatoes) left in Tribeca. Service, even from familiar old faces has fallen to sub par and it appears every time I'm in there, the kitchen is struggling or completely slammed during the lunch rush. One particularly big disappointment was a tuna niscoise wrap that was really a bad tartare since it was completely raw and tough, thusly inedible and there was no offer to replace it.

Recently my co-workers and I waited an hour for salads. We wound up packing our own food (despite requesting it to go but I guess the new waitress, too stoned to find her way back to our table, didn't hear that part), untouched since it arrived so late, at the table. When I complained that I had never seen anything like this at Walkers and I've been coming there on the regular at least once a month for four years (for god's sake I eat out so I don't have to eat at my desk), the check was snatched out of my hands and was told "Honey, I got regulars that come in here every day". Well, "honey" if its only rich jerks in suits you want in your restaurant, you can have them. Unfortunately for her, she was speaking to someone who worked in food service for 12 years. I wasn't looking for a comped check, I was looking for an apology. I, and the 4 ladies who join me, won't be coming back. Its a bloody shame since the food used to rock and I used to love going there.

  • Pros: not much anymore--ambiance I guess
  • Cons: food and service on a bad day

Best burger, best value, tribeca landmark, great staff, warm and cozy environment

by smidge

Walkers has everything from great burgers, juicy steaks, to fresh fish, pastas and vegetarian options. Everything is clearly homemade. Can get a little loud but the food is great and the price is right. Service is usually very friendly and very prompt depending on how busy the place is, sometimes it's just efficient. Check out their fabulous brunch..what a deal! Also, you can reserve the back room for private parties and the food and drink just keep coming...very attentive staff.

Super Spot

by btroesch

Great brunch food and price. Not much in the way of ambiance, and the service was efficient although not too friendly. Great point is the place is a little out of the way and not crowded which is a plus to me in NYC.

Would definitely recommend, especially the chicken breakfast burrito.

  • Pros: Food, Price, Space
  • Cons: Decor, Friendliness, Location
