The host had told my group of 8 that we would be seated in about 5 minutes, which was a lie. There were tons of people waiting for seats and we couldn't possibly seated within 5 minutes. I figure he didn't want to lose a big table so he tried his best to get us in. We were seated about 20 minutes later. We were given horrible service. The waiter threw our chopsticks and tea cups on the table. The place was really crowded and not that many carts were coming around with dim sum. So we had to chase a few carts to get food and bring back to the table, but the dim sum was average. I've tasted better but it's a nice place to go if you're craving dim sum. The food wasn't bad. It won't be worth the long wait though.
Pros: good dim sum, special treatment for big groups waiting for tables
Cons: long wait, bad service

I've been to Jing Fong 4 weekends in a row. Unlike many other Chinatown dim sum places, Jing Fong's waitstaff are friendly and helpful. The place is awesome: a huge room with lots of seating. At peak hours, it can get noisy but you can still converse comfortably without having to scream. The food, however, is the highlight. They have the plumpest and juciest shiu mei and har kow. They also have this yummy pan friend scallion dumpling. I definitely recommend going to Jing Fong for great dim sum and good service.
Pros: Great food, clean place
Cons: Price a bit high

This is one of the places I bring anyone visiting New York. Not only is the food tasty but the experience is one-of-a-kind. After heading upstairs on a two-story escalator you enter one of the biggest banquet style dining rooms ever....of course it is gaudy with giant gold dragons and pictures bright colors but that is all part of the ambiance. It is jammed pack on weekends so I recommend coming by noon....also, you will get a better selection of food if you come earlier. You don't come here for the service (there basically is none) but for the food and the experience. Personally, I avoid pretty much everything deep fried and just go for the steamed items. I always like the small clams available at the long buffet style table in the center towards the back. Grab a plat of green veggies while your there...since you don't usually see them coming around on the carts. I also like the sticky rice wrapped in a dark green leaf (rather then the kind just served in a scoop on a plate). If you want a real new york city chinatown experience this is the place to go... It is always better to go with a larger group....like six or more....you get an opportunity to try more dishes and end up spending less. I've been there over a dozen times and have never been disappointed.
Pros: food, atmosphere
Cons: wait time on weekends, service

If you are brave enough to bypass the awful smell outside the place and brave the noisy, filthy place upstairs, your insult hasn't stopped there. The food is bad: salty and greasy. Service is rude: all the waiters looked like your miserable, underpaid immigrant workers who rudely throw your plates and utensils at you. I'd eaten at this place years ago and had thought the food was OK, though that nauseating, disgusting smell out on their sidewalk seems never to change. Why isn't the Sanitation department inspecting this horrible violation? That should be a tip-off to the cleanliness of the place. And the food on my last visit had definitely taken a worse turn. As one reader commented, it's an insult to Hong Kong to call this a Hong-Kong dim-sum experience. My advice is to stay away from these mammoth dim-sum places.
Pros: large place
Cons: bad food, bad service, uncleanliness

This is one of the biggest place you can go to for dim sum and usually they would sit your pretty quickly. But on a Sunday and sometime Saturday, be really to wait like an hour or more for a table. The food is pretty good and the price is average. They can easily have 120 tables serviced at the same time. They are fully staffed so you won't really feel like you will be lost in the crowd. Usually people would have wedding banquet there at night so for dinner I would usually avoid this place. B/c they would pull all their resources and man power on the banquet and the dinner tables would left alone.
Pros: BIG
Cons: crowed

I believe this is the best dim sum in NYC. I went to this place with a few friends and had really good dim sums. Not only is this place always packed (no wonder) but the atmosphere is lively/busy and the waiters really nice. Perfect for groups. You see a mix of crowd which is refreshing. The dim sum is very inexpensive average $3 therefore you'll come out with a full belly. Can't wait to go back. Be advised that if your party is small you may be seated with other people.
Pros: Food, prices
Cons: Too busy

It may be one of the largest (if not the largest) Chinese Dim Sum establishment in Chinatown. The food is good but the place is often times so busy that some folks have to actually chase down the cart pushing ladies. Prices are good and the portions are decent.
Pros: Dim Sum, Service, Prices
Cons: Crowded

The dim sum here is delicioius! I loved everything we tried- from the shrimp dumplings, scallion steamed scallops, chicken noodle wrapper, sesame rice ball, etc. All of it was really good! There were so many other dishes we wanted to try especially some of the dishes in the middle of the restaurant. You have to walk up to pick what you want but we didn't see it there until the end. I can't wait to go back!!!
Pros: delicious dim sum!
Cons: shared tables

Be there on a Saturday or Sunday at 1:30 - 2:00pm. Sit down and prepare to be satiated. This traditional dim sum parlor has everything but the lazy susans in the center of the tables. The food is fantastic. Shrimp dumpling, broccoli rabe in oyster sauce, almond dofu, sweet tofu and hot congee. They even have the more exotic shark fin dumplings but you have to request it. If you just can't wait for the lady with the cart to come around help yourself to steaming pans of authentic Chinese food a la carte. Don't snear when offered Worstechere Sauce, it's Hong Kong style dim sum. This is a fantastic place to spend a weekend afternoon.
Pros: Amnience, Decor, Speedy Service
Cons: Come after 2:00 and your food may be cold

Don't expect refined service at a huge dim sum palace - expect a cultural experience. This is a fabulous way to spend a Sunday morning. Crowded - sure! The hustle-bustle is part of the reason to go!! But if you are here by 11 a.m. you will almost certainly be seated immediately. Delicious range of items from fresh seafood or pork dumplings to more exotic selections like snails and chicken feet. We never seem to spend more than $50 for four adults who leave stuffed and happy.
Pros: Crowded, Colorful, Authentic
Cons: none
