Good place

by cbass8584 at Citysearch

Went late on a sunday night. My girl friend didn't like where we were seated and I asked if we could move somewhere else, then, ate salads and apps and we asked to move our seats again. They were very accommodating and polite about it, The house Chianti was good, not sure the name of it, the meal was very good penne alla vodka was a little expensive for a small amount of pasta and sauce. Chicken parm was very good as well, the portion was a good size. Had dessert and wine till close to midnight, were never asked to leave or told that they had actually closed at 11. I thought that was very nice. I would go back again, but may try somewhere else just to get a relative comparison.

  • Pros: Decent food, accomodating, friendly staff
  • Cons: little pricey

Horrible!! avoid this place. it's one big tourist scam.

by sinans at Citysearch

I regularly come to NY to shop and have fun. But tonight I made the mistake of going to angelo's at mulberry. The food is terrible, very very very over-priced, service is awful, in short; a tourist scam restaurant.

They didn't allow me to take the bill. It's a shame for the restaurant business.

Stay away!

by Orfan at Citysearch

Avoid this place at all costs.

Indifferent, sloppy, even rude I could take. Disrespectful to my wife and me, I cannot accept.

The service started off sloppy - only one menu for two of us, and a request for a wine order before the wine list was delivered. Rude came with several gesticulating conversations among the staff in our direction, which turned into a request to move to a different table so some friends of the management could accomodate another guest at their adjacent table.

But the table we were asked to move to was diagonally wedged into a rear corner of the restaurant SO TIGHTLY that we had to ask guests from two other parties to move so we could reach the table.

How they were going to serve us, I have no idea. But it became crystal clear how they intended to treat a party of two non-Italians on a weekday night, so we took our business elsewhere.

Perhaps they could change their phone number to 1-800-Up Yours?

  • Pros: Seemed relatively affordable
  • Cons: The worst service I have experienced in a long time

HOSTILE SERVICE

by claiborne at Citysearch

My inlaws wanted to experience authentic little italy so on a recommendation we ended up at Angelo's. While we waited for our table we ordered four cocktails. The price-$45. The six of us were seated in the back with a large party whose kids ran around the dining room. The waiter was very aggresive in trying to take our order and seemingly hostile. When I sampled the wine I pointed out to him that the glasses were hot from the dish-washer and he played dumb even though he had just set them down himself. He did not offer to bring new glasses. When we ordered a new bottle he poured the wine on top of the existing. A busboy put his finger in my face when I asked for olive oil. After our food arrived we did not see any staff until time for dessert which ofcourse we skipped. The prices were very high for what I can only describe as a dump. Empty glasses on the table were never cleared and when we left we walked right past the server and he did not acknowledge us. I feel inclined to mention that I work as a bartender in Tribeca and have been in the service industry for twelve years in NYC. My in-laws are (former and current) judges from Baton Rouge and New Orleans who have very lovely manners (they are senior citizens!!) We know how to behave in public. There is no excuse for the hostile treatment we received. I guarantee any positive review you read regarding Angelo's was written by someone who works there. AVOID AT ALL COST!!! Oh, and incase you were wondering, the food was mediocre. I had the fishy red snapper.

  • Pros: Large Portions
  • Cons: Overpriced, dirty, horrible service

We have been coming to Angelos for over thirty years. My mother inlaw was the first to take us there. And we have been going ever since. I never had a rude waiter or anything not satisfying to me as far as the food goes. We just love all of it. We go every year for our annivesary as well When we first stated to go my children were very young and we always had a great day. They have the best food.

I have reccommended Angelos to many of our friend and have brought friends on many occasins

We are 100% satisfied with this restaurant. And plan on coming back for many years to come.

Treated like criminals

by nmj at Citysearch

I am shocked and outraged I was by the way I was treated at Angelo?s tonight. My husband received a $100 gift certificate from friends for his birthday in February. We decided to use the gift card this weekend, and my husband made reservations for dinner tonight, Friday, July 12, 2008. We had our meal, and went to pay our bill, which was above the gift certificate amount, with the gift certificate and also gave the waiter our AMEX for the additional amount we spent.

You can imagine our surprise when after a 15 minute wait, the owner came started yelling at us, and asking us where we got the gift certificate. We were glared at, yelled at, had a phone shoved in our face (to call whomever gave us the gift certificate, I suppose), asked repeatedly for the name of the person who had given us the gift certificate, and basically treated like criminals.

In the end, after about 25 minutes, we were finally brought the AMEX receipt for the portion of the bill not covered by the gift certificate, while the owner still gave us dirty looks. Our waiter told us that the owner?s son had not filled out the gift certificate log correctly, and so the owner needed to verify that the gift certificate was valid. Our waiter apologized, but never was a word of apology offered by the owner or any amends for the poor treatment we received.

We had been huge fans of the pasta at Angelo?s, and went at least every 2 months for a big dinner there with a group of friends. If you had asked me at anytime before our check was presented tonight, I would have told you how awesome the food was and highly recommended it. However, after the treatment we received tonight, we will never go back again. The owner ruined our entire night with your ill treatment and lack of class in managing the situation. They obviously have very little respect for their customers, as was evidenced tonight. Skip it and try another place on Mulberry, somewhere they actually treat their customers right.

  • Cons: Unbelievably bad service

Whaddya waiting for?

by Publiclyknown at Citysearch

Delicious, but slightly expensive. We had no wait due when we arrived for a late lunch around 2pm. The waiter, a very tall man, gave us "plenty" of time to decide on our food and drinks, but once we had him, he was superb. The host, a very small man, wasn't overly friendly and appeared to avoid us altogether. However, we weren't there to make friends. We wanted to eat, well and large. And, that we did with gusto. The calamari was juicy and tender with a light batter. The eggplant rottalini was stuffed with extra cheese and also very tender. The meatballs were kinda sweet like they were made with roasted red peppers. I liked them, whereas my family did not. We didn't have any wine, just content to be drinking good old NYC tap water and cokes. No time for desserts, either, though we considered some expresso. Their machine wasn't ready. All in all, the food was outstanding and beware the dinner crowds as they were arriving as we were leaving. There isn't much room in the place for seating. Enjoy.
