The Knit--a downtown institution--still tends to book a good, eclectic mix of bigger indie rock names and jazz. But these days, perhaps in an effort to make up for the lack of a crowd after 9/11, the club is booking more than one show in the main space per night and selling twice as many tickets (and that doesn't include the acts booked in the downstairs spaces). The result is an intensely unpleasant traffic jam of music fans caught in long lines, being berated by bouncers, paying too much for whiskey--plus, some bands have to do without a soundcheck, which doens't benefit anyone.
