The city's foremost venue for work on paper, in all shapes and sizes.

The Scene
The Drawing Center, established in 1977, is the only nonprofit space in the country dedicated entirely to drawings. One of just a handful of alternative art spaces left in Soho, a neighborhood deserted by the commercial art scene, it succeeds in attracting art lovers from all over the city with its historical and contemporary exhibitions. The art world has lately seen a resurgence of drawing, especially by younger artists, and this excellent organization should continue to flourish.
The Draw
A variety of public programs feature talks and performances by well-respected artists and scholars. The Line Reading literary series, with a children's spinoff, brings in writers who explore the interplay of text and image. The Center's gorgeous interior, with lofty proportions and bleached-wood floors, is almost a reason to visit in itself.
