Satisfying my sweet-tooth is not an easy thing to do....as I found on my first trip to NYC. As I had a rough idea where this place was located, I decided it was worth the adventure to seek it out. I was almost turned away by the line snaking out the door late on a drizzy Sunday afternoon. The street scene milling about made it an enjoyable experience...and made the time fly by. I felt myself mesmerized by the scene inside the shop, too. Large mixing bowls whirling up pastel-colored frostings...and stacks and stacks of cupcakes cooling on the tray. I felt myself salivating at the thought of inching closer to our turn inside the shop. Seeing how the staff would place out dozens of cupcakes and watch them instantly get snapped up made me a bit nervous -- would I get a cupcake.....or, would that pushy broad in front of me take all the white-on-white that I craved? Well, we made it in after a 30-minute wait and I made my move....except the pushy one in front of me obviously knew the ropes at this joint and placed 12 of the available ones I seeked stealthily in her box. Damn her to the dark reaches of the netherworld I thought....that is, until they immediately replinished the stock on hand. Fortunately for me, in the brief instant it took for them to bring the trays of cupcakes my way, I whirled around and spied a red-velvet cake on a cakestand in the corner. So, I got my 4-cupcakes and headed toward the red velvet beacon in front of me. One slice was all that it took to take me into Nirvana. I couldn't believe how incredibly moist this cake was....and, I'm typically not a "cake" fan....I really am in it for the icing....which wasn't too shabby either. Even my finicky 12-year-old enjoyed the cake. When I go back to NYC....if I ever do....this will be my first stop.

Pros: Interesting location to stroll along while wolfing down your cupcakes.

Cons: Long line to get in....but, worth it.
