Good Food But....

by gcbenezra at Citysearch

Spent the day in the city today with my husband and kids and we had a great dinner in this restaurant. It was clean and the food was really excellent. The waitress left a lot to be desired. Did not check on us at all, did not refill our drinks, and we had super messy food with only 1 thin paper napkin each. The real kicker came when the bill arrived and she found that the opportune moment to let us know of the cash only policy of this restaurant...when she saw my husband pull out his debit card. FORTUNATELY ATM was 2 blocks up. We have never had this happen. Very embarrassing. The staff was very evasive when we asked why this was not posted ANYWHERE in the place nor was it on the menus. Waitress even told us it happens a lot. Needless to say...we're not going back.

  • Pros: Excellent food. Great hummus, falafel, and chicken kebabs
  • Cons: Cash only is not revealed until the bill came

Avoid the lamb pizza

by btour at Citysearch

The zatar bread is amazing and I really recommend it. Order some hummus for dipping and you are good to go. The lamb pizza is a bomb, you will smell garlic for four days after eating this thing. Initially good, but man, what do you guys put inside?? Otherwise, a cute little place with some good beers. Waiters are all very nice people and they have the best of intentions. Thanks guys. Easy on the garlic please.

  • Pros: Zatar bread
  • Cons: Lamb pizza

great selection of food for vegitarians

by Fede2008 at Citysearch

I have been a customer at this restaurant for ten years and I have yet to have a bad experience. The food is fresh, healthy and delicious. It's my favorite place to take vegetarian friends as they have a great number of choices sans-meat. Great value. Best mid-eastern food in town hands down.

  • Pros: great variety of vegi-choices, warm atmosphere, fresh delicious food
  • Cons: there often is a line up

Left Out In The Cold

by JamJ at Citysearch

I went to this restaurant with 3 friends at 7:45 on Fri. night. Upon arriving we were told thee would be a 15 minute wait. we were all excited to come here as we had been before and enjoyed the food. After a while we started to notice that they were in no way trying to get together a table for 4. every small table that got up was sat right away sat by new people arriving after us. After waiting outside for 45 minutes we tried to come in from out of the cold, and were told by a server to move closer to the door. One minute later a manager/ owner told us to move out of the way and that we should wait outside because it " was not that cold" The temp. was 39 degrees, and we had been waiting at that point for close to an hour. This place needs to get it together in terms of seating. we had all worked in high volume Nyc restaurants, and knew that this was inexcusable. The fact that the manager/ owner told us to get out was so rude and insulting. We all decided that we would never return to this place. I work in a downtown business and am constantly being asked to recommend great places to eat, and this one will not be making the list any time soon!!

  • Pros: none good enough to outweigh the cons
  • Cons: service beyond rude

Underwhelming

by veggie2001 at Citysearch

Came in here having heard good things. ~15 minute wait on Weds@9pm. The wait staff seemed to be lounging around in the open kitchen most of the time. Our waiter described the three interesting sounding Middle Eastern beers as "light, all pretty much the same." We started with the hummus, which was bland. The lentil soup I had was ok, and the lamb sandwich my friends had was so-so, lacking in flavor. Overall very underwhelming, and boring... I'd rather go to a little falafal stand and get flavorful food at half the price.

  • Pros: ?
  • Cons: Boring Food, bathroom potpourri stinks up the whole place

Fabulous Middle Eastern

by slherman201 at Citysearch

Fabulous middle eastern at affordable prices. Definitely worth the wait if you have to stand in line since they don't accept reservations.

A little mid-east treasure

by archrenov8 at Citysearch

We stumbled upon Moustache Pitza after watching the Pride Parade for several hours. We got there about fifteen minutes before the parade marchers started pouring in. As quazi-vegetarians (2 legged meat and fish only), it is always a treat to find numerous tasty selections. The tabouli salad appetizer was wonderfully flavorful, fresh, filled with finely shredded greens, and it was so good that you would not tire of it by eating it all up.My partner ordered the eggplant salad which was equally tasty, and together on the amazingly fresh and light pita, it was a wonderful combination of flavors and textures.

Hi main course was a chicken kabob on pita, and mine was a falafel sandwich. It was the best falafel I have had, light, not dry and chewy, not overly spiced, with nice red tomatoes and fresh lettuce.

The Brooklyn Brown Ale was the perfect complement, and we topped off the meal sharing a milk flan with red berry sauce. A pleasant departure from traditional flan, a great finish to a very nice, and reasonably priced informal dinner. We look forward to returning.

  • Pros: Fresh food, informal middle eastern ambiance
  • Cons: indifferent service, but polite

Decent food, but the service can be downright awful

by westvillager2 at Citysearch

I have been going to this place for years and the food has mostly been decent. The hummus and the babaganush have always been above par and the pitas as light and fluffy and great. The service used to be very good too. However, it has declined in recent months to the point where it can be downright awful. Recently I went in for lunch and was ignored for about 15 minutes. No one offered a menu or seemed to even see me. Meanwhile, the people on my right and on my left got the attention I was sorely lacking. I was perplexed. There I sat . I was well dressed, clean, and yet, you would think I was totally invisible or covered with warts. I just gave up and left. I have never, in all of my life, been so totally ignored in a restaurant. It has really soured me on this place and I will advise my friends to stay away. Bad service can ruin a dining experience. I am no longer a fan! Stay away unless you have a lot of time and patience. There are other great places to eat in the village where the food and service are great.

  • Pros: decent food
  • Cons: horrible horrible service! My worst dining experience-servicewise- in the VILLAGE
