Mi Cocina is no longer in business. The West Village restaurant closed its doors about five months ago.

Delicious Margaritas!
by Kyle765
I love the margaritas here, some of the best in the city. The food's very good too but don't listen to me, go for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
- Pros: Margaritas, Everything really
Consistently Excellent

My wife and I have been going to Mi Cocina for years. We continually return due to the consitency of great quality food, tasty margaritas, nice ambiance and good service. It's no wonder that many New Yorkers consider it one of the best in the city.
- Pros: Mexican food, Tequilas, Service
Overrated, Overpriced, Tasteless Food
by AlexSistla2008
Based on a favorable rating in Zagat's and positive reviews on this website, my girlfriend and I (along with a friend) went to dinner at Mi Cocina's recently eagerly expecting a tasty Mexican meal. What we got, instead in a word was - lousy. And that included everything from the service to the food to the prices. (I suppose, to be fair, the ambiance was nice and an initial look suggests that it might be a nice place for a date). First, this has to be one of the only Mexican restaurants in which chips and salsa are not complimentary. Rather, we spent $15 for mediocre (at best) guacamole and a couple of lousy salsas. Moreover, the chips, while better than store-bought ones, were nothing special. They were cold and flavorless. We still held out hope, however, that our main courses would redeem the meal. That hope was misplaced. The entrees were probably worse than the chips and salsa/guacamole. I can't speak for my friend who seemingly finished his selection (vegetarian enchiladas) merely because he paid way too much for it ($25). My girlfriend and I, however, were certainly not happy with our chicken mole and fajitas, respectively. Like the chips and guacamole (and salsa), these dishes were also bland. And they were also outrageously overpriced ($25 apiece). Thinking that at least one course would be worthwhile, we went ahead and ordered a dessert - "crepes." And again, reality crushed expectations, as this too was a disappointing slop of caramel, a few nuts and raisins, and uninspired doughy substance. Combined with overpriced (but tasty) margaritas our bill for three came to nearly $150.00. So basically, we each wasted $50 on a faux, tasteless Mexican meal. In short, don't waste your time or money on this place. (And you'll waste a lot of time because the service is slow, rude, inattentive and unhelpful.)
- Pros: None
- Cons: Everything - Food, Prices, Service all terrible. This restaurant deserves a 0 in Zagat's
Had a Great time
by Natalie556
I went on a first date to Mi Cocina recently and we had a great time. We started off with some of the best margaritas I've had. This was followed by some really good, fresh tasting Mexican food. I had enchiladas while my date had a salmon dish. Both were excellent. I'd definitely go back to try their other dishes. The service was also good without being bothersome. Highly recommended!
- Pros: Food, Margaritas, Service
Blah Food and Bad Service
by JSHarris77
Despite four other people in the dining room, our wait for food and drinks was long. My salad was bland, despite the delicious description on the menu and our main courses were just, well, okay. Nothing special at all. The service was really poor, however, and brought the whole experience down to the lowest level. Reading the other reviews makes me feel like the restaurant is padding the ratings or something. The whole thing from beginning to end was so blah that I find it really hard to believe, given the small number of people in the dining room on any given eveining, that my experience was an anomaly. With so many good places to choose from in the area, there's no need to waste your time on this place.
Mi Cocina, The Real Deal!
by Rammy55
Mi Cocina has some of the best authentic Mexican cuisine I've had anywhere. Unique dishes and fresh ingredients make the difference. Mi Cocina also has a very extensive tequila list and the maragaritas here are fantastic. HIGHLY recommended.
- Pros: Cuisine, Ambiance, Tequila selection, Margaritas
Bring back the Chilaquiles!
by downtowngirl4
I was a regular at Mi Cocina for over 5 years. THey have some tasty dishes and make an excellent Michelada. I have commonly found the service odd and inflexible however put up with it as I enjoyed the food, it seems almost like homemade and I live down the street. My favorite dish was the chilaquiles, a brunch item. THey have since done away with brunch - much to my sadness. I realize that chilaquiles are truly a brunch item however its so good that I would suggest serving it on the normal lunch and dinner menus. Most of the other items on the menu are good and though some feel overpriced, I think Mi Cocina is a higher quality Mexican resto, so not to be compared with Burritoville and the like, still, it is fairly pricy given the overall experience.
- Pros: you can always get a table, some very good dishes & good drinks
- Cons: no more chilaquiles (best dish), some dishes aren't great, service is strange
Great Food, Great Margaritas
by cspryle
Delicious authentic Mexican, my favorite in NYC. The margaritas are all top notch and they have the best selection of tequilas you'll find anywhere. I wish I lived closer to Mi Cocina.
- Pros: Tequila selection, Authentic Mexican
Very good, but not worth the cost
by ukininja
Very good food, nice relaxed atmoshphere, clean airy space, certainly overpriced for mexican food. Might as well go to Rosa Mexicana.
- Pros: great margaritas, good bean dip
- Cons: average service from unfriendly waiter, overpriced
