I too experienced this problem. My first trip I couldn't stop raving to my BF about the place so the next time we were up for Mexican I invited him along. We had the same experience with the bill seeeming "off". Because we were with coworkers, we didn't make a big deal of it and just paid. However, that being said, I don't think it was equitable to take advantage of our group considering we stayed there and ordered food and tipped VERY well. It doesn't affect that the food was nice and the waitstaff was friendly, but it does keep me from returning -- something that should be considered by management when they make the decision to allow this to happen.
Pros: Food is good, Waitstaff is nice
Cons: Space is small for # of tables, happy hour rules are complicated (or manipulated)

Not only the false happy hour ad they have and did not honore even though I spoke to the Manager who lied offering free round and never did but 4 minutes before happy hour was up I ordered another round of drinks and they said that it will be at full price because the register had the clock forward 10 minutes and they could not do anything about it, WHAT A SCAM!, oviously they are money thirsty and don't care about the customers. Aren't the restaurants audited in new york? if not I will and won't be going there anymore nor my friends and anybody I talk to, luckly there are thousands of mexican rests in N.Y. Mr. Burrito loco, don't treat your csr that way cause you will be going out of business, my table spent that night over $200.00 which you will never see again from me nor my friends or customers. Food was great sevice sucked.
Pros: Steak flautas, guacamole.
Cons: they like to cheat customers overcharging for drinks

FOOD WAS MEDIOCRE BUT THEY ADVERTISE A HAPPY HOUR SPECIAL AND THEN DO NOT HONOR- WENT WITH A GROUP FOR $4 MARGARITAS AND AFTER HAVING TO CHASE THE WAITERS DOWN F OR DRINKS(THAT WERE NOT COLD WHEN THEY ARRIVED TO THE TABLE,)WE PAID FULL PRICE FOR EVERY DRINK AND WOULD NOT RELENT-I'LL NEVER GO BACK- DON'T FALL IN THEIR TRAP
Pros: margaritas were good
Cons: did not honor their special for margaritas (not worth $8.50 during "happy hour")

We went here on a Friday night after locating good reviews and rating on this site... so I feel I should tell you what it was really like. We arrived around 9 PM and were promply seated, 2 top. Service was good, staff was nice and attentive as was the manager that evening. We ordered a Mojito and a Sol beer, the Mojito was good... beer tasted old. We got the chips and guacamole, which is exceptional. Honestly... the Guacamole was that good. For dinner I ordered the chef special, a seafood fajitafor $18.00 that contained 6 shrimp, 4 small portions of salmon, 4 rings of unbattered somewhat chewy calamari and then a entire plater of onions and bell peppers. Honestly the plater they served the entree on was so big, I was using my fiances portion of the table as well as my own. With the meal came 4 stale tortillas, a side dish with sour cream and guacamole and a additional side plate with bad rice and runny refried beans. I tasted both, and didn't eat any more. All in all... the meal was horrible. I have never had such a stomach ache as I did after leaving there. My fiance had the "Loco Burrito" as was equally dissatisfied, and equally effected. To sum it up, the meal, with tip ran $78.00 (if you don't add the $6.00 I spent on Gas-X) and all I could think about was why I didn't just return to the Rocking Horse Cafe, where I know they make good mexican food. If you are in the mood for Mexican, try the Rocking Horse Cafe it was much better.
Pros: Service was good
Cons: Food was horrible

My husband and I joke that we dream about the mole sauce at Burrito Loco, but we're only half-kidding. The burritos poblano are a regular order for us. The mole makes them fantastic. This time we got some other chicken poblano dish that came with corn tortillas and fried plantanos. Amazing! The guacamole and homemade chips and salsa are addictive. The margaritas are delicious and have always been plenty strong when we've ordered. The service is attentive and friendly. Yes, it's loud and cramped, but it's part of the charm. Oh, and they never hesitate to bring more chips or anything else when we ask! This time we ordered a side of extra plantanos and they made just as yummy of a dessert as the bananas flambe.
Pros: excellent food, best mole in town
Cons: a little noisy and crowded, but good atmosphere if you like that sort of thing

go here and order guacamole and some margaritas, enjoy the fresh made salsa with a little kick in it. The food is always good here and ive been coming here routinely for 4 years. We had just a little hiccup with the bill last time we went the waiter came over and apologized and offered us all free tequila shots. Usually the restaurant just says “oh well and tough luck”. I will be going back here for some time to come, as long as my gf keeps dragging me here for the guacamole. And to the other poster if you want more chips just ask, it would look a little silly to put 8 pounds of tortilla chips on every table.
Pros: banana margaritas, guacamole, service
Cons: none really

My husband and I have been going to Burrito Loco every chance we get for seven years. You won't find better Mexican anywhere north of the border. The salsa is homemade and scrumptious (and has a little kick), the margaritas are to die for, and the food is as good as it gets. Nice ambience and excellent, attentive service, too. Make sure you save room for the fried ice cream -- the best ever! My only complaint is that the "background music" is always way too loud. A minor thing for my favorite restaurant.
Pros: food, service, quality & value
Cons: loud background music

Finding a quality Mexican restaurant in this city isn't easy. Burrito Loco is that rare exception where you can find outstanding service with quality food. While the restaurant/space itself isn't so great (somewhat cramped cheesy interior, and the name implies its a burrito take-out place), the service and food outway its few cons. The frozen margaritas come in a wide assortment of flavors and they are quite tastey. The guacamole is to die for (and before going there, I didn't even like guacamole!) and they make it right at your table. I highly recommend the fajitas. It has a fun environment but not really a place to go on romantic date, but rather with friends or a 3rd or 4th date type of place.
Pros: Food, Service
Cons: Cramped Interior

I've been going there regularly for over ten years. It is always excellently prepared, delicious mexican cuisine. The wait staff is forever friendly..... and at your table. I do believe I have tried every mexican restaurant in NYC.........and I always go back to Burrito Loco, when I want authentic mexican food. If you want REAL mexican dishes........definitely try it out.....you will never be disappointed.
