They rush you. if you are not jay z or some cheezy model
by ihatebarpitti85 at Citysearch
The owner thinks he is "cosa nostra" untouchable gangster type. They will rush you out and take wine out of your hand. Food is overrated but the ambiance is nice if you like the owner starng you down to order.. Waitress and waiters stink. owner is crass and and forgets what it is like to struggle. horrendous experience but they do not care because it will always be packed. I saw a vermon run under my feet as I ate a meatball.
- Pros: location
- Cons: rush. dogfood meatballs
Move em in, move em out
by EatsAroundALotHK at Citysearch
Hadn't been in a while, thought I'd go back. Wish I hadn't. The food was kinda ok, the meal was very rushed and not long after paying our bill, the waiter grabbed his 20% tip and asked "everything ok over here guys?" I responded, "yes, thank you" to which he said (with attitude) "people are waiting." There were 4 people waiting and the restaurant was not packed. As we walked out, I told the owner "we were 2 sips away from done, I didn't need to be told to leave" and he mocked me for the beneift of the people waiting for our table. So, if you want to drop over $100 (cash only) and not be allowed to finish your wine, jump in!
- Cons: They'll kick you out!
A bar without Pitti
by DOH10001 at Citysearch
The outdoor cafe was a nice amenity. The wait staff are a bit harried, and the maitre'd was unhelpful about how long the wait would be, since they do not take reservations.
But their 'peasant' dishes were delicious, a lot better than most 'red sauce' restaurants.
- Pros: nice authentic different fare
- Cons: harried service
Offensive Service, Decent food, Nice outdoor seating
by DrLS at Citysearch
I have been to this restaurant before as a college student and again several years ago and never had a complaint, but my husband and I went this past weekend and I was unpleasantly surprised. I have never written a review like this before, but I was sufficiently offended by the poor service and the staff's utter lack of interest in the comfort of their clients that I felt obligated to write something! First we had to ask to be seated by catching a waiter flying by us while standing in the walkway, then we had to wait 15 min before we were able to catch our waitress for the menus and some beverages. We had to request the specials since they were not offered to us and once we were ready to order we had to flag down another waiter. No refills on water unless prompted and to that the waiter seemed annoyed. No one asked how we were doing at all. We, of course, had to ask for the check. And to top it off, they take cash only and, yes it is mentioned on the menu, but it would also be nice if someone reminds you when you are seated. Food was good and I am Italian so i am a harsh critic of a red sauce. Prices are very reasonable for the city. Overall, very unsatisfied.
so so service, decent prices, average food

tried this place while back and thought i'd give it a second chance. not much has changed so i don't see why the place is always packed. the service is mediocre at best. the food is average and the prices are not extreme but everything could be improved upon. i guess it stays around because people are out to catch the next celebrity who is caught dining here or next door. if you want sceney then the place is okay but for food and service go elsewhere.
- Pros: if you want to catch a celebrity
- Cons: service-attitude-mediocre food
Better than next door's Da Silvano's
by pbr2008 at Citysearch
Good food but the service was rude. If Jay-Z and Beyonce sit next to you, be prepared to be asked to leave, even if you have just ordered a bottle of wine.
- Pros: Good location, decent food
- Cons: The staff
Better than I had thought, but not great

I went to Bar Pitti on a recent Sunday night for a friend's birthday dinner (her choice). I was definitely hesitant to go after having read a lot of unsatisfied customer reviews, and even suggested to my friend that she might want to try somewhere else instead, but she insisted that she goes all the time and never has a problem. The impression from when I first arrived wasn't a good one. As I looked around to see if anyone else from my party had arrived I got no greeting at all. From anyone. Shortly after, my friend showed up and it turned out that another friend of hers that I hadn't met before was also waiting and had put her name down on the waiting list. Luckily for us, an outdoor table become free and we were sat immediately.
Our waiter was in a rush to get the ball rolling, so we leaped upon a wine bottle choice that not everyone ended up being that into. We were brought the specials board and our waiter quickly went down the list in his thick Italian accent. I felt intimidated to ask too many questions, so I only asked about the special that looked appealing to me. At least he left the board there for a while except that it was in Italian, which none of us know.
We made our order and were happy with our choices and the portions. Our waiter felt the need to amuse himself and try to embarrass us by making of pronounce what we ordered, but we didn't mind, because we all have a sense of humor too. I had an octopus salad (it came sans greens), and my friends had some delicious rigatoni in a vodka sauce. Didn't feel rushed during the meal. My friend said the arrogant attitude of the staff of the restaurant is probably intentional and part of their "schtick," and I agreed, although generally my favorite type of service is non-obtrusive, witty and pleasant.
We tried to order two desserts (there were four of us), but the waiter insisted that we get three and brought three out. He put a candle on one, but didn't join us in singing "happy birthday."
- Pros: Good Italian fare, value and portions.
- Cons: Arrogant attitude from staff and somewhat pushy.
Another Scene

Another scene in the West Village. Food average. Nice waiters: very good looking Italian guys. Nothing really special...
- Pros: scene
- Cons: no c/c accepted
Horrified

Bar Pitti should be ashamed. A dining experience is as much about the atmosphere and service as it is about the food. I have been to this restaurant many times before. On this occasion, I brought a friend, who was visiting me from 3,000 miles away. The night ended when the manager asked us not to be offended by his utterly shameful query but "How can we be so rude as to stay for a nearly three hour meal while others are waiting for the table?" We paid our bill and quietly pulled him aside to let him know we were offended and hurt -- and, quite honestly, astonished that we would be pushed out of a restaurant where we just paid good money to eat. He shoved our money back in our pockets saying, "It's not about the money, it's about respect" and demanded we leave immediately. Needless to say, I returned the money. It wasn't about the money for me either. It was about respect. It is shameful that the manager of a business as big as a NYC hot spot feels at liberty to treat his customers with such disregard. I encourage all foodies and professionals like myself to declare Bar Pitti absolutely pitiful.
Bar Ratti!

If you like rude waiters, A old man eurotrash hostess, cramped tables and being bumed rushed to leave so a washed up actor or actress can have a table...you will love this place....If you want outdoor dining, i suggest a million other fine NYC places or a jar of Prego and a box of pasta and sit on your fire escape..
