Don't go here for brunch!
by writeon1
We were invited here by native New Yorkers who admitted that they had never been here for weekend brunch. When we arrived, the place was completely empty. The servers were milling about with nothing to do and a very vacant-eyed hostess did most of the waiting on us. She was extremely uncharismatic, unfriendly and unknowledgable. It seemed as though everything was a pain and that she literally had no empowerment to do anything. She didn't even know how to make a substitution and charge for it. Frankly, the menu was an odd mix of items, most of which were not even remotely Italian and most shocking of all, the bread was inedible! $100 for some eggs, a pizza and a bottle of San Pelligrino and bad service is really inexcusable, especially in these difficult economic times. Oh, and the decor was simply 80's in its garrishness.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Everything else
one of my favorite...

One of my favorite restaurants in the city. While it's pricey, it's one of those restaurants I like to go to for special occasions.
- Pros: food,service

my family and i just came from salute 8/30/08.. i could not believe that the veggi lasgna came out cold and with no flavor.. there was no bold taste or flavor..i when i told them the dish was cold they simply took it away and reheated the same dish.. they offered a very passive apology and no explanation. i was very upset that this high end, over priced resturant had a below average dishes..
- Pros: its a nice high end look
- Cons: small portion and no taste
Not wowed
by gripdxd1
I came here for lunch during Restaurant Week. The place was packed. Service was acceptable, but not wow. Portions were very small, but adequate. We also had to ask for the Restaurant Week menu as well. I wasn't impressed enough by my dishes to want and try the real menu, although it looked great (but super pricey). The decor is modern, but definitely a tight space. The bar looks like a good place to get a drink after work, but it will be tight. The place was hopping at lunch during the work week. It looks like they have a great wine list, but I didn't order any. Overall my opinion is mixed. I was expecting to be really impressed. I'm just glad I didn't pay a whole lot!
- Pros: Wine List, Bar
- Cons: Price, Food, Tight seating space
Disappointing Ending........

Went to "Salute" for "Restaurant Week". Made a res. for 2 but dragged another friend at last minute (who didn't want to eat, but I persuaded her to come and have a glass of wine with us). They accommodated our increased party and dinner started off ok. My friend and I decided we would have the "Restaurant Week" menu (which we had to ask for, btw) as it sounded quite appealing. We also ordered a $70 bottle of wine. Got our apps quickly, and entree then straight away. Everything was quite tasty and I was quite enjoying everything. Quickly after our entree, our dessert was brought to the table. Then, the restaurant suddenly appears to get very busy, with people waiting to be seated at the hostess station. Next thing, our check was slapped down on table without us even asking for it - and we weren't even ASKED if we wanted coffee. I was appalled. This, to me, is the worst thing a restaurant can do. As part of my job, I regularly organize business dinners - big and small. I love getting the opportunity to sample these restaurants when I can, so I may recommend for future use. I will not be going to "Salute" again nor will I be booking any of my corporate dinners there. What a pity, because the food is actually quite good.
- Pros: Good food, lovely decor, attentive service.
- Cons: Rushing customers to pay check.
excellent for a quick lunch date

I sat at the bar and had lunch here, a surprisingly pleasant experience. Just the olives and large chunks of fresh parmesan cheese served before you start are worth the experience (though the bread wasn't quite as good). Nice selection of wines, friendly staff, impeccably dressed. My seafood salad was delicious.

Worst dining experience
by gummibagel
Restaurant week. Waited 15 mins to be seated. Horrible food. Served cold bread (as they insisted the bread were just off the oven), Campbell soup, and baked chicken which were dried like matchstick. The service was simply unprompted. We waited the entrees for 20 mins after finishing the appetizer. I will never go again!
- Pros: location, wine
- Cons: anything else
Bad Customer Service, Average Food and Noisy
by ladycunegonde
The interior is nice but noisy. The service is neglectful. It took 20 minutes before I was given a menu or even water. The food was average at best. I ordered the Chicken Breast and it was leathery and dry. The waitress never came back to see how it was so I had to flag down someone else and send it back. I then got the salmon which was moist but VERY bland. The tiramisu was the best part of the meal but was still frozen in the center. I will not be going back to Salute.
- Pros: Interior
- Cons: Customer Service, Price, Food
