worst lunch special ever
by bermor at Citysearch
I had the lunch special on a rainy afternoon because I had been to the location on east 86 street and the food there was good not stellar but pleasant.I ordered a dish advertised as chicken with fresh mushrooms. I also had the hot and sour soup which i had enjoyed at 86 street- here it was a tepid murky mess. But the worst was the mushroom and chicken dish the mushrooms were canned not fresh and they had an off sour taste. The chicken was greasy when I complained they said I had eaten too much of the chicken and they couldnt do anything( it was the mushrooms that were suspect and bad the chicken was just fatty). This was the most disappointing meal I have had in a long time and I will never go to either of the locations again.Hopefully since it happened this afternoon I alsowon't get sick from those dreadful mushrooms- they were just conventional canned mushrooms but I think they were spoiled.Yuck!!
- Pros: sister location on east 86 is better
- Cons: bad food, poor service murky food
Terrible Experience!! Stay away!!
by gotchae18 at Citysearch
Terrible experience!!! By far the most arrogant and rude staff I have experienced in NY. Went over with a guest for lunch and left the place with a really 'sour' experience. The staff there believes that customers show up to the place in desperation. I was literally pushed out of the restaurant when I was done. My suggestion to everyone is to first of all avoid the place and if you do unfortunetly end up there, make it a point that you are the customer and demand the service that you are paying these guys for. Absolutely no service industry etiquettes, on the contrary very rude and pathetic - end to end. Stay away!!!!! They do not deserve to be patronized with that attitude. Their business has to wrap up as whatever they have going has to diminish!!!!
- Pros: None
- Cons: Too many
Be careful about your bill!
by restaurant111 at Citysearch
After I found that they charged me over $2 for the steam rice which should be free, I asked the man who gave me the bill if customers should pay for steam rice.
His answer is no. Therefore I told him why the bill was wrong.
The man reviewed my bill and took my credit card away with murmuring so I thought he will correct the bill.
However, after he came back, he rudly threw some rice on my table and yelled to me " Now you should feel satisfied! " I was shocked!
He left my table right away. I checked the bill and found that I was overcharged! He did not canged the wrong number even though he knew the bill was wrong!
What I can do is asking the cahier who is standing in front of the front desk and witnessing everything to correct the bill. This time he tried to use different ridiculas reasons convinced me I should pay for the steam rice. At first, he said that customers can only get one free bowl of steam rice for each dish they order. He thought my friend and I (two people) only ordered two dishes so we could not argue with him. However, we were hungry that day so we totally ordered "four" dishes. Then he changed his excuses. He said that because the manager had gone home, no one was in chage of the cash desk. Based on what he said, we can only accept bad luck without complaint and go home. I tried to keep arguing with him, however, my friend was tired and wanted to go home so I gave up.
I want to remind everyone be careful. Adding small amount of money is hard to find. Even though I found it, they still use some tricks to take away my money.
Deeeeeeeeeelicious!

I could eat here at least 3 times per week! They are very nice people and have amazing food. One time I forgot my wallet (VERY embarassing) but they were kind and allowed me to pay on my next visit. I love the sliced chicken with mushrooms and think the lunch specials are great! The only problem I have is that the bathroom is pretty stank, but I just go up to the street to Starbucks instead.
- Pros: Great food, wait staff has excellent memory
- Cons: Everybody knows about it and sometimes it's hard to get a table!
Love their food, hate the host
by larioshka at Citysearch
I've been lunching at this restaurant for about 3 years. Not every day, of course, but quite often. We were meeting there with my bf, we loved the food and service and sometmes he was leaving 100% tip. When my bf took another job in downtown I rarely went to Wu LIang after that. This summer bf was around Murray HIll area, so we decided to meet at our favorite chinese food restaurant for lunch. I was there about 5-7 minutes earlier, so I got into the line to get a table as I always did before. The host there ( I've never seen him there before) was snapping at the cashier, then he snappen at someone over the phone, then he started yelling at customers - Wait a minute! even though no one was asking him anything. Someone in the line said that this was his good mood, I guess he was known for his rudness. In about 5 minutes of yelling and snapping he asked me - to stay or to go. I wanted a table for 2. He said - you'll get the table when your party arrives. My bf arrived and I decided I didn't want to have luch there. Never again unless that host disappears.
I didn't see him today and hope he is fired. I'm enjoying my chinese food righ now, even though it is too much food for me :)
General Tso's Tofu will bring you back & back & back
by EmperorsClub at Citysearch
This restaurant bears the same name as two other NYC restaurants, but I believe is under separate ownership and management. I often frequent the Wu on 48th Street, and that is truly excellent. Having said that, I try to eat at this Wu once a week, because there are some dishes there that are wonderful and unusual. The cold sesame noodles are among the best anywhere. The hot and sour soup is excellent. The brown rice is delicious - flavors that hint of flowers, great texture - But here's what brings me back: They make a dish called General Tso's Tofu that is out of this world. I need it at least once a week. It is the sauce from General Tso's chicken (which is a dish I don't care for), on a pan-seared tofu that has the most wonderful texture and consistency you ever ate. Two people can share cold sesame noodles and General Tso's Tofu and get out for $18 and change. It is wonderful. My favorite server wears a badge that says, "King," which presumably is his name, but he is very quick and helpful, self-deprecating and entertaining. It's not La Cote Basque, but neither does it carry the high price or the snobbish attitude. For a quick lunch, this is definitely worth a try.
- Pros: General Tso' s Tofu to die for (only place I've seen it), friendly, entertaining service, quick in and out
- Cons: the installation is a bit run down
too much MSG
by nycwalk at Citysearch
The food tasted good, but definitely too much MSG. I got so thisty afterwards that the discomfort made that meal not worthy any more. I did ask them to not put the MSG but they said some dishes could not be made without it. That's simply an excuse. Of course MSG can be replaced with natural ingredients.
- Cons: bad service
Terrible food
by sdb5 at Citysearch
I never post negative reviews about restaurants but this place is terrible. The chicken looks and tastes like it is months old. The servers are not friendly. And the prices are actually expensive for the very very low quality food that they serve there. Do yourself a favor and stay away.
- Pros: nothing
- Cons: Food, service
slow delivery
by chaett at Citysearch
Agree! It took more than an hour for them to deliver my order. It's already cold when I got it. In addition, the person who answered my delivery inquiry was RUDE!!!
Worst takeout service
by helenahl at Citysearch
I called for delivery and they are just so rude on the phone and snappy. I do not recommend calling for delivery at this place.
- Pros: good food
- Cons: terrible service
