GREAT PLACE
by Pre
Love the food and garden area. It was little cold but with the heating they provided made it's perfect. I would highly recommend this place. service and food is wonderful. :)
5 Stars for me
- Pros: GREAT SERVICE AND FOOD
- Cons: NONE
A fish- and vegetable-heavy Italian classic.
by Josh Ozersky
Apulia is on the heel of Italy's boot; it’s a fairly poor and arid region, and its food tends to reflect that. So as the area's primary ambassador to New York you might think that would make I Trulli a hard sell, especially given the lack of garlic and tomatoes in Puglian food. Instead, the restaurant more than compensates with bitter greens (arugula, dandelion, broccoli rabe), which give punch and earthiness to a wide-range of handmade pastas. The room is simple and unpretentious, with warm yellow walls and a glassed-in back area. It's not especially cheap, but in its own quiet way this is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city.
Awful food, poor service
by mrnycdiner
Four of us went to I Truilli last week because we heard it was decent. The service was not attentive at all. Out of the four dishes one was passable the other three were just plain awful. There really is no excuse because this place is not cheap. I would never go back nor would I tell anyone to come here.
- Pros: Decor
- Cons: Food was terrible, service non-existent and it was expensive
Don't Go For Valentine's Day
by BenBerentson
I've here twice -- the first time for a regular dinner and the second time for Valentine's Day. My regular dinner of homemade pasta was amazing, but the Valentine's Day dinner and cattle room they herded all of the couples into was atrocious. Terrible service, cold food, all around awful experience. So great place, don't go there for V Day.
- Pros: Great food
- Cons: DO NOT GO for Valentine's Day, I'm telling you.
Disappointing..
by HumanVacuum
After reviewing the menu online and hearing such great things about this restuarant, i was very diappointed to say the least when i ate there last night. We started off with the panzoretti- Terrible! There was barely any cheese, nor did I see or taste tomatoes. It was more like a donut than a calzone. We also had the Inzimino and Pulpo - both very bland and uneventful. For a second course, we ordered two half orders of the Malloreddus and Tonnarelli. The pasta was good. You could definitely taste that it was homemade. The Malloreddus was delicious i must say! For entrees, we had the Zuppi di Pesce and Coda di Rospo. Both very bland. The Zuppi di pesce was so disappointing! Barely tasted like anything! The sauce was very watery. The monkfish was ok. Very simple. Nothing do go "wow" over. We didnt even bother attempting the desserts. Overall, I would never go back or recommend the restuarant.
- Pros: Homemade Pasta
- Cons: Everything else is terrible.
Not a good idea

I went there and took my mother. The waiter was great but the food was not that great and was extremely expensive . Don't get me started on the size of te portions -- especially for the apperitizers and drinks, including wine.
I Mistake
by bbswenson
Yes it was a crowed Hursday nightr but the table was terrible and the service amtched.
Ran out of 3 of the specials by 8.30 PM - the food was served at different times and was uneven.
The drink glasses were the size of shot glasses.
All and all not a good value
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: Food - service and price
Wonderful experience
by jh3
After reading a few of the recent reviews, I was a bit skeptical to keep our reservation for last Friday night(restaurant week) but I am so glad we did. It was trulli a wonderful experience. I didn't know about the back garden until we got there (and I didn't reserve it) but when I asked if we could sit there the hostess said it would be a few minutes wait (and it was less than a 10 minute wait). We had a lovely table in the back. We asked our waiter if he recommended the $35 prix-fixe (I explained that we are locals who dine out often) and he highly encouraged it - rightfully so. We started w/ the mini calzones (very good - but not part of the prix-fixe) and then we each got different appetizers and main courses - all were delicious. The service was excellent. We enjoyed our romantic evening and we were not rushed at all (unlike many other places during the 2 weeks). Granted the total bill came to $200 (incl. tax/tip) - so we didn't necessarily need to dine there when we did, but we still loved it.
- Pros: Great food, service and ambiance
- Cons: Not a value meal
Worst Restaurant Avoid, Avoid, Avoid!!!!
by Vandercubin
Whatever you think Italian food should be, it will not be found here. I Trulli has become a restaurant that has outlived its time in New York. The review posted by JSirbs is accurate and fare. The food was simply bad from start to finish. If you are looking for a quality Italian meal, you will be disappointed. I think it is fair to say that I Trulli is nothing more than an OVERPRICED DINER disquised as an Italian restaurant. Do not waste your time or money like I did. Big mistake that I hope others will not follow.
"Truly," not that good
by StarKristen
Pros: okay service. Cons: Food one or two notches better than a good pizza shop. Service just okay. Noisy. Cramped tables. Expensive for what you get. Conclusion: "Truly," forget it!
