Charming Spanish!
by maryrose2006 at Citysearch
I enjoy Mesa De Espana because they have good food & service. No attitdes, posers or being rushed to finish a meal. This is an ideal place to go if you enjoy eating a good meal, drinking great wine in a relaxed casual enviroment. They have some great fish/meat selections- they offer a varied menu beyond paella. If your looking for a scene, this is not the place.
- Pros: casual quaint charm, sangria, vast menu options
No way.

Very old-fashioned interior/feel, white tabelcothes, plain interior, and black tie waiters. Food is nothing special, many other better Spanish places you could go to.
- Pros: Not many
- Cons: Many
Mesa de Espana

Mesa de Espana is one of the best Spanish restaurants in the Tri-state area. Unlike other owners of such cuisine, the owners of Mesa de Espana are really from Spain. Their food is excellent and ambience makes you feel like you've just stepped into a cozy little restaurant in the middle of Spain! The aroma can be smelled from out in the street and the prices are extremely reasonable. Easily 5 stars!
Great Place to Dine!

The food was splendid and huge proportions. The setting was nice and the service was great. The waiters were friendly and lively. They sang a spanish happy birthday to my friend and it was simply awesome. I highly recommend this place for group dinners whether it be with family or friends.
- Pros: Service, Inexpensive, Large Proportions
Real Spanish food

La Mesa is a far cry from the swish Dos Caminos or Houston's nearby on Park. It's traditional food, simply cooked, in simple (kitsch?) surroundings. And the food is really good (paella, shrimp, chicken...). They have a chicken casserole dish (I forget the name) like a Spanish coq au vin which is highly recommended.
Gripes? It seemed a little expensive for what it was; the appetizers could have been more interesting (or livened up by serving with lemon juice); they should get some good Spanish beer.
I also think they should consider serving tapas in the bar area--this might draw in a younger crowd, and I think La Mesa could introduce them to the real world of Spanish tapas, rather than some of the fashionable fakes in NYC.
- Pros: Good, simple food
- Cons: Ambience
A must try!

Great food, friendly service, they accomodate to your needs, and individual taste.
Not stuffy it all you feel welcome all the time.
Great for business lunches or dinner with friends or family in the weekends.
The paella is made just for you so be ready to wait 30 minutes, but is worth it. The sea food is fresh and the sangria is sweet and strong.
- Pros: inexpensive, low flamenco music, great cuality seafood
- Cons: no parking it all, smoking area

This is a really nice place. I think it would be romantic with the right person! Service was lovely although we were there by ourselves in midafternoon. Very courteous. And those mussels, mmmm. The paella was excellent as was the shrimp creole and of course the Spanish Potatoes were great. I would go out of my way to go there. Thanks for the recommendation.
Great Food, Great Music.
