Great restaurant in the neighorhood

by FredTeng

This is my neighborhood restaurant. From the management to the wait staff, Hudson Place is my favorite in my neighborhood. I have been coming to this restaurant for over a decade. I would have business lunch here, or having a drink after work, or having family celebrations. We are extremely happy every time we eat here.

Hudson Place offers a great variety of food on their menu, whether it is a salad, or pasta, or burger, or fish, or even BBQ ribs, they have them. Recently, the restaurant went through a new renovation, it is even better.

I also appreciate the fact that rather than slipping take out menu under our doors, Hudson Place spends money to mail their takeout menu to the neighborhood. A very considerate neighborhood business indeed.

Oh I forget to mention the great desserts. :-)

  • Pros: Good portions, great variety, comfortable atmosphere
  • Cons: No parking, hahaha

Haven't had bad food like this in while...

by retailgirl

Is spinach tortellini that hard to make! Apparently for Hudson Place it is, because I swear that what I ordered must have been bought frozen from Costco. It was dry and cakey and salty. The bread before the meal was stale and the vodka sauce that the pasta came in had no hint of the vodka creamy flavor it should have. Service was also really lacking, the waitress rolled her eyes at me and stormed away when I told her I wasn't going to eat my pasta (mind you I didn't complain, she came to ask why it was just sitting there). I have to give them credit, they did not charge me for the dish. But really, skip the dinner at this place.

Dumbest management in town.

by decuir

First of all, the food is Ok, the portions quite generous and the prices very fair. A nice neighborhood restaurant.

We live a block away from this restaurant and have been going there for over 10 years an average of 2-3 times a week. That means we used to spend about $12,000 a year in this restaurant.

We even referred to it as "Headquarters" because my partner and I used to have our weekly dinner meetings there - with our husbands.

However, in all the years that we have been going there, the management never let us have the only round table in the place - a table for 5 - they always told us that the table was reserved - even though the restaurant was empty, and it was already past 9 PM. This is not a post-movie neighborhood so by 10PM the place is dead. Nedless to say, that table always remained unoccupied all evening :-)

Also, if we celebrated a birthday at the restaurant, this management, never saw it fit to offer us a glass of wine on the house - or some other token accommodation the way most restaurants do with regular and loyal customers.

So we finally got smart and now we go there about once in a blue moon - usually as a last resort - when we're too lazy to walk another block. Or it's raining.

A classic example of how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

  • Pros: Food is OK, generous portions, fair prices
  • Cons: Apalling customer service

Great brunch

by luvnyc401

Came here a few times for brunch and it was fabulous. The portions are so large my best friend and I actually split and still walk out full. The mimosas are great- not made with the cheap oj from concentrate. And service has always been very attentive as well. Its a Sunday favorite for me. Its usually pretty empty early but tends to fill up quickly around 1-2ish.

  • Pros: Good food, large portions, friendly service
  • Cons: no free mimosa with your meal. haha

Not the best..

by ur2nite

I work around this restaurant and after walking by it numerous times I decided to go in with my fiance. It was not the best, it was not the worst, it was not average. I would say this place is below average. The food was below average, the service was below average. Don?t think I would revisit this place again.

I got sick!

by moonbaby888

I used to come here all the time. Yesterday, I went for brunch and came down with a terrible stomach ache one hour later. I will never eat here again, which is disappointing. The food has been pretty good in the past and it was a good neighborhood brunch spot.

Good for fasting vegetarians who have LOTS of time to wait for their salad

by comptonite

I realize going to a "maritime" themed restaraunt as a vegeterian makes almost no sense, but I was with meat eaters...However, LITERALLY the only non-meat dish is a simple green salad, or a more deluxe salad (with belgian endive and goat cheese....it was good). But this is New York City, not Pasins, Iowa; vegertarianism is almost as common as being a barbaric meat eater down here. Give us even just ONE entree. I'm so sick of eating nothing as an appetizer and eating my salad as my friends eat their real meal.

Also, the service was okay, but like other posters have said the food took forever to come out.... But this is the type of place that when asked "Is that soup vegetarian" they say "Yes" and follow it up with "but it has shrimp and clams in it."

Go somewhere else. I mean, unless you're into that type of thing.

Cozy bistro plays off its maritime theme in menu and decor without taking things overboard.

by Contributor

In Short
Named for the Hudson River, this bistro is decked out with ship posters and continues the theme with seared salmon filets, seafood risotto, lobster cobb salads, and Ecuadorian giant prawns. Guests preferring less fishy dishes dine on penne Bolognese, baby back ribs and New York steak. A step up from the neighboring diners and quick-bite eateries, the Murray Hill restaurant gets dressed up with brick walls, a fireplace, and yellow sconces for a warm at-home casualness.

Pretty Good Place

by jwpnycev

Hudson Place is a pretty good place. The food is excellent & fresh. The bartenders know how to make an excellent drink. I'm a REALLY picky Martini guy & each time I've been to HP it's made to perfection. Considering the high quality of the food & drink HP is bargain.

The drawbacks to HP are the lousy decor, ambiance that feels like a Houlihans & service that can range from OK to lousy. The last time we were there the hostess looked on as a woman allowed her screaming 3 year old to climb up a little wall next to us & drool on our table. To get the inattentive parents attention we just started peppering our conversation with the "F" word. She scopped up her little brat & got him far away fast.

The excellent, modestly priced food (including desserts) deserve better decor & better servers.

  • Pros: food, drinks, price
  • Cons: decor, ambiance, service

Delicious, great experience

by riesling6857

I ate at Hudson Place for the first time last week as it was recommended to me by a friend. I was very impressed by the promptness by which we were greeted and seated. The restaurant exudes a charm about it in its naval outfitting, warm wood and brick walls, and relaxing lighting. The bar is non-intrusive and I imagine great for an after work drink. The food was delicious. I had their seared yellow fin tuna which was well-cooked and flavorful. Oh and please do try their cheesecake. Furthermore, their prices are extremely reasonable. This place is a gem and is not to be missed.
