I had the best dinner here with my family. The entire menu was organic and natural. It was healthy and delicious. The servers were friendly, and the hotel was beautiful! Very enjoyable!

the Barclay

I brought my parents here for dinner when they came to visit, and I have to say that it was beyond delicious. The wine was amazing, ang the entire menu was organic!

Nice, but not exactly the 4 stars I expected

by SQ82

We went for a nice Valentine's Day "Staycation"--thought it would be nice to try a new neighborhood for a romantic weekend. This hotel seems more geared toward business travelers/tourists than a couple. The furnishings were lovely; however, there were crumbs/plastic ties in the bottom of the fridge and the snack drawer.

They do provide a coffeemaker and wine glasses, which was nice. Room service leaves a bit to be desired - my steak was cooked nicely, but poorly seasoned. I'd go again, but only if I got a steeply discounted rate.

  • Pros: beautiful lobby, free wireless in the lobby
  • Cons: Mini-fridge & snack drawer needed cleaning!

Very nice

by Eis4enough

We just returned from vacation in NYC and we stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel. We were very pleased. The hotel is lovely and the location was great. We had a room on the 14th floor and while we didn't have a view, we didn't care because the room was large, quiet, clean and the beds so comfortable, which is really all that mattered as far as we were concerned. The bathroom while not very large, wasn't exactly a closet either. The bathroom was clean and we found a fresh supply of towels every day. The maid service was great - we came back to the hotel after a long day of exploring the city to find the a/c on, the beds made with fresh, clean sheets and the bathroom clean.

We would definately stay there again.

Great Hotel in Midtown

by mac

Our first trip to NYC. Great location in midtown - a little quieter than the Times Square hotels which was one of the reasons we chose it. Close but not too close. Front desk and concierge staff were adequately friendly/helpful. The restaurant, bell hop and housekeeping staff were stellar. Our room was fine - not quite as polished, neat and clean for what I expect from a 4 star hotel but the bed was extremely comfortable which is all that really matters after a long day exploring the city. This is a good choice in midtown.

  • Pros: Location, very comfortable, lots of amenities.
  • Cons: Room could have been cleaner upon arrival

Good location, less than stellar service

by hkybuff

The location was convenient, pretty central to where I needed to be on this specific trip. Unfortunately, the room was pretty average, the bed was uncomfortable and my biggest problem was the maid service. I had to ask them daily to replenish the towels and toiletries in the bathroom. I travel to New York quite often for business and in my opinion there are other great hotel options in this price range.

  • Pros: location, restaurant
  • Cons: maid service, bed

Great Location!

by nhtravlrs

The overall experience at the Barclay was ok. At first glance it certainly appears to be a nicely redone historical landmark that beckons you to come in and relive the memories of years past. The lobby is inviting and renovated back to its original splendor however it stops there. The desk staff is far from accomodating, we arrived at 12:30 (check-in is 3pm) and were told our room would not be ready until 3pm. As we sat in the lobby we watched several people check-in and receive their room key...hmmm....is it because we got a deal from using Priceline? When we returned at 3pm we were told our room was still not ready so they gave us a room "upgrade." If you want a room with a view, this is not the hotel for you. The room itself was average size, the bathroom however was very very small. (I wonder what our original room would have been like!) The painting had yet to be completed in our room and we had no towels. When we requested some we were told that we could only have one because the entire hotel was out of them. We would highly recommend exploring the area since the hotel is so conveniently located to 5th ave and Rockefellow Center for places to eat. The hotel restaurant is WAY overpriced ($28 for a burger) and not worth the money. There is a Greek restaurant right next door that offers exceptional food at a good price. A block down there is an amazing restaurant called Ribot that is not to be missed!

Overall, for the money and location it is clean and not a bad place to stay.

  • Pros: Convenient Location, Good Hotel for the money
  • Cons: small bathrooms, no view, average service

Front Desk Staff out of a horror Movie

by delikiz2000

The hotel itself is very nice. It has the best location, the beds are very comfortable, the rooms are clean and bigger than a standard NYC hotel.

But stay away from the Front Desk. When checking in, keep your mouth shut, check in and leave. When checking out do the same. Otherwise the people behind it dont hesitate for a second before getting into a quarrel and showing you some attitude. They were arguing with somebody everytime I saw them. And while checkout they argued with me. They are very unfriendly. If you're looking for prompt friendly service, dont look behind the front desk at this Intercontinental...

  • Pros: location, the bed
  • Cons: front desk staff

They may not have 4 star service or quality at this hotel, but the price will definitely fool you.

We arrived at the hotel at around 10:45am. Check-in was not until 3pm, but we wanted to drop off our luggage. The man who checked us in confirmed that our king-sized bed, non-smoking room would be ready at 3pm, we would just need to stop back by to pick up our room key.

We got back to the hotel around 5:30pm. We were told that our room was not ready yet. He also stated that the room had 2 double beds. We informed him that was the wrong room. We were also told that the room probably wouldnt be ready for another 45 minutes, but that was not guaranteed. We told him this was not acceptable because we had plans and we needed to get ready, PLUS it was not the room we were scheduled to receive. He said we could use the shower in the fitness center, completely ignoring the fact that it was the wrong room. He offered us another room, but said we would need to check out by 9am!!! We asked to speak with a manager he went around to the back for awhile and finally came back to the counter without a manager, but he said he found a room with a king bed that was (magically) available.

The room itself was small and Ive seen bigger bathrooms at gas stations. It was at least quiet and the pillows were comfy; however, as I pulled the covers up, my hand was stuck by something sharp. I found a big, upholstery type pin sticking through the comforter. I called down to the desk and the night manager apologized and offered free breakfast. I declined the breakfast, but since we had already ordered coffee service for the morning, he said hed take care of that -of course, they tried to bill us for it later.

At the bar: we ordered the Maui sampler it was unremarkable, but not bad for bar food. At least the service was good our waiter was very attentive.

  • Pros: comfy pillows, location
  • Cons: rude/inattentive staff, issues with check in, "neglected" feel

A beloved landmark after a multi-million dollar facelift.

by Contributor

The Scene
A $20-million renovation put this historic spot, built in 1926, back in the ranks of the city's top hotels, especially for business travelers. The lobby has been restored to its neo-Federalist splendor, with a gleaming green-and-black Tennessee marble floor, walnut paneling and three copper-filigreed lighted-glass panels above. The clubby Barclay Bar & Grill is perfect for an elegant gin and tonic during cocktail hour, a quiet business lunch or dinner or an after-supper digestive.

The Details
The 686-room and 86-suite Barclay has everything you can expect in a large, full-service New York hotel: multi-lingual staff, express checkout, babysitting, a complete fitness center, and the usual, thorough array of business services. The dry, corporate-style accommodations possess little to set them apart with one nice exception: outstanding audio/video facilities, including HDTV accessible to both digital movies on-demand and high-speed Internet.
