An Era that never dies.
by Atosha at Citysearch
With nostalgia cartoons painting a history landscape on the surrounding walls and authentic 1950’s style of gentlemen service, this restaurant is worth every penny. Not only is it a historical valued landmark, its meals rival the finest that New York has to offer. I had a 16 ounce female Lobster with the roe still inside married to a delightful Filet Mignon (aged beef) that melted gently against your taste buds to the point that you would lean back with closed eyes into a bliss of wonderment.
Think of the animation, ‘Ratatouille’ and the experience the food critic, ‘Anton Ego’ had. Yup, it will bring you back in time.
I cannot (and I’m a writer) describe to you the magic this place will bring to all of your senses. Please, save your money and go here. It’s pricey but every time you make a payment on that increased credit card bill, you will remember the experience of why you are still paying this off. Then, you’ll smile. It is more than worth it. I can’t wait until I can afford this must have luxury again. :)
- Pros: Excellent Food, Service and Atmosphere
- Cons: Very Expensive
MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE STEAKHOUSE
by LisaCarroccio at Citysearch
I've been a patron of this terrific place for years! It is absolutely my very favorite place! My husband and I bring friends, family and clients who we want to impress with yummy steaks and seafood.
This is THE place where you can relax and enjoy fresh, high-quality food (better than your mom's). The wait staff bends over backwards to accomodate you and your guests.
The maitre'd, Al, is the perfect host and always manages to entertain you while he ochestrates the hundreds of patrons who frequent the Palm.
Tell him Lisa and Ronny sent you! Enjoy!
- Pros: Delicious food, great atmosphere, awesome staff
- Cons: none
DEEELISH! a MANS restaurant!!
by julieandjoe at Citysearch
I finally went to the Palm to see if it could really live up to the reputation that it seems to have on so many new yorkers. AND IT DID 100%! Both my boyfriend and I work in the food and beverage industry..and have worked in various new york restaurants, so we know great food when we see it. and eat it!! he ordered the 28 ounce porterhouse steak..and i swear to god his eyes lit up when the old (and very unattentive) waiter brought it out. i ordered the 2 lb lobster because i knew i wouldnt be able to finish it all, and believe me i couldnt. i even ordered it CLEAN (wich means they deshell the entire lobster for you free of charge) and they warned me it would come out looking like "nothing on my plate" but i was sitll amazed by how much lobster meat was still on my plate! it was absolutley amazing. we had the baked clams as an appetizer, my boyfriend ate every damn clam, only saved me one he sadi ti was so amazing. for sides we got mashed potatoes and creamy spinache...DEFINETLY mouth watering..two sides are ENOUGH for two people, so be ware..because ALL of these proportions are monsterous. i it was a little pricey..not too bad we enjoyed ourselves. my boyfriend calls this a MANS restaurant...he says you can FEEL the testosterone when youwalk in the building. very small and cozy, all male staff, huge propportions, GREAT FOOD. im sad to say though, the ONE and ONLY dissapoinment to both of us was the service. now this doesnt go for the entire waitstaff but it seemed as though if you werent a large group, about to drop hundreds of dollar sthen you were nobody. i noticed my boyfriend and i got TERRIBLE service from the old snobby hag, but the table next to us (5 buisness men) were showered with amazing service by our SAME waitor. it was very rude and VERY noticeable.
but we shall return, and very soon, and continue to give this place nothing but good reviews because the overall experience and food was A+.
- Pros: Steak, Lobster,FOOD!

Not the best place for steak anymore but damn good anyway. Go for the lobster - its monstrously large. Service is great and the restaurant is small and cozy.
- Pros: Loster, Ambience
Classic NYC
by jklippel at Citysearch
When entering the Palm restaurunt you are brought back to the feeling of classical, warm, old New York. The walls are covered with classical drawings of the worlds famous, and the floors are wood and have been walked on for over 75 years. The prices are average and are what is expected of this type of NYC rstaurant. The service was on point, and peaceful. Me and my partner had salad and soup for apps., both were fresh and full of taste. For dinner we ordered steaks that were cooked the way we requested, were hot, and tasted how a USDA prime choice steak should taste. Overall the expirience of dining at the Palm was great and worth going back for many more years to come!
- Pros: food, value, service
- Cons: small
Shocking disappointment
by thebigragoo at Citysearch
I have been to various Palms over the years at the various NYC locations as well as the Palm in Vegas. I hadn't been to the original in several years and I am glad. The medium rare fillet was overcooked/overcharred. The pink portion was not juicy and bland. Overall, a shocking disappointing.
- Pros: Lobster Bisque, Sides
- Cons: Tasteless Fillet , Poor service

This place - like every other famous NYC steakhouse - has its gimmick. This place's gimmick is cartoon characters on the wall of 'true' regulars. This place is SMALL. You are right on top of the people next to you.
The waiters are a mixed bag. Some are well experienced and have been there for years. Others are quite green and very unsure of themselves - you can almost hear their greetings and responses come from a script they have been taught.
The food is on par with other steakhouses but is by no means 'the best'. The desserts are worth having. $10 valet parking on the weekend is a nice touch.
I cannot believe a steakhouse of this caliber does not have a homeade steaksauce. They give you a bottle of A-1. WHAT???
- Pros: Steak, Desserts, Valet Parking
- Cons: Very crowded
Consistent Disappointment
by goldgus at Citysearch
I've been there many times with business functions, guests, etc. Each time, they prove to you that if you know nobody, you are nobody. You'll need your picture on the wall to get any respect from the old, snobby waiters. The food is ridiculously priced and very mediocre. And, if you or a guest only wants a 3 lb lobster, forget it, thats too small (read: too cheap) for them to serve. I've never spent $800 for a party of 6 and felt so dissatisfied, and cheated...
- Cons: Crowded, Noisy, Snobby
definitely overrated

a $60 steak better activate every tastebud in my mouth. sadly my 20+ ounce porterhouse had LITTLE taste. furthermore, not a single steak was prepared as we had ordered it. Half my steak was medium well, part medium rare, part medium. but perhaps what left the worst taste (and aftertaste) in our mouths besides the over one hour wait for our food was the hefty $600 bill for our party of 7. was i full? yes. satisfied? not in the least.
- Pros: ambience
- Cons: , food, prices
