My worst experience in NYC ever
by Anonymous025
A group of my friends recently went to MJ's for dinner as part of restaurant week. After sitting down, we were informed that the restaurant does not participate in restaurant week for dinner but that they are aware that the website says they do. We were told there is nothing they could do but when we almost left, they offered to give us a special menu- but not without a couple of snide comments from the waiter. At that point, we should have left because we were treated horribly throughout the meal. My friend who has Celiac disease was treated like a complete inconvenience to the restaurant and not offered any substitutes that she could eat. She had never been treated so badly at a restaurant. It was impossible to enjoy any of the meal when we were being treated so horribly.
We are all in our mid-twenties and while we were going out for restaurant week, we would have been more than willing to spend a large sum of money on a great meal and an enjoyable experience. It is a shame that a well-established (though mostly empty) restaurant like MJ's felt the need to belittle us and act so unprofessional in an understandbly awkward situation. Restaurant week is supposed to allow New Yorkers to enjoy the great restaurants that the city offers at an afforable price, but in this case, MJ's went out of their way to make us feel unwelcome.
I am certain that no one at our table will ever go back there, and I advise everyone to avoid it.
- Pros: food
- Cons: service, cost
Total Disaster
by rocksolidfoolishness
I went to Jordan?s yesterday (Friday 2/20/09) for lunch with three friends from work. We ordered the burgers. Two ordered them medium, one medium-rare and I requested mine rare. When the burgers finally arrived almost 40 minutes later, one was medium-rare (as ordered) and the other three were all very well done, dry, taking the form of bloated hockey pucks. Regardless, after waiting almost 40 minutes we fell upon the burgers like a pack of hungry wolves, taking the occasional moment to complain to each other about how overcooked and dry the burgers were (except of course the one member of the party who got his medium-rare as ordered). It is amazing how a high end restaurant can get three out of four dishes so wrong. Instead of enjoying a nice Friday lunch that we all looked forward to ending the workweek with, we spent the afternoon nursing stomach aches. Much like Pamela Anderson, a peanut butter brownie, or a shiny Chinese toy, although Jordan?s may appear enticing at first blush, one would be well advised to keep their distance.
Great service and surroundings

This is a must do at least once. Every member of the staff is very helpful and sincerely very friendly. The service is truely outstanding without hovering. Being located over the concourse of GCT is a perfect NYC experience. The food, while predictable is very, very good. Definitely pricey but, hey, what do you expect?
- Pros: The service and the surroundings
The porterhouse for two is the one.

I have made MJ's Steakhouse and Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show a family tradition during the Christmas Hoiiday. My 50th Bday was celebrated by having the ultmate dining experience; wined and dined in the MJ's Steakhouse VIP room along with my family. And each time, for me, there is nothing else but that porterhouse for two and a good cabernet to make for satisfying face feeding.
- Pros: Excellent porterhouse. Perfect ambience during the Christmas Holiday season
- Cons: Will put I slight dent in the ol' wallet
Not great

I have had better steaks at Outback! How can a famous steak house serve a bad $40 petite filet? Very disappointing. The gorgonzola fondue was delicious and the servcie was very attentive. We were seated promptly and were given the seats with a view that we requested. The ceasar salad was average and the sides were terrible. The mushrooms were rubbery and salty and the mashed potatos were definitely instant. Unbelievable! Go visit Grand Central Station but eat somewhere else.
- Pros: atmosphere and reputation
- Cons: food
Great service!!
by msmith77
My fiance and I randomly went in Grand Central on Sunday during a long walk for a few drinks and ended up being pleasantly surprised!! Despite being quite warm at the bar we ended up staying for a couple of hours...excellent and charming bar staff! The bartender was not only the most sincere person I've ever met in a Manhattan bar/restaurant but she made the best mojito I have had in the City!! A bit pricey for the drinks but worth it for the service and the scenery!
Simply Delicious
by whatisthis
The only bad thing I have to say about this place is that the chocolate cake wasn't the best I've had. But the service was amazing, the food was delicious (try the garlic bread with gargonzola sauce) and served with perfect timing. If you find yourself at Grand Central Station, I recommend making a stop here. Enjoy!
- Pros: Food, Service & Decor
- Cons: Michael Jordan Chocolate Cake, just because they use his name doesn't make it good
Juicy steaks and notable wine lists are the draw at His Airness' Grand Central restaurant.

The Scene
The steakhouse, designed by architect David Rockwell, whose credits include Nobu, Vong and the Lincoln Center branch of Rosa Mexicano, is a sweeping 7,000-square-foot space on the northwest balcony of Grand Central Terminal. Rockwell's design is the traditionally "masculine" steakhouse model--polished mahogany and leather abound, while a large circular bar up front beckons martini and Manhattan drinkers.
The Food
The fare is typical, showcasing sundry cuts of grilled beef and broiled seafood. A giant porterhouse is available for two and arrives sizzling, tender and with an intensely beefy flavor. A New York strip steak benefits from skillful broiling that chars the exterior, sealing the juices and rendering the center lush and pink. Even filet mignon, which often lacks flavor and texture, is agreeably firm and well-seasoned.
- Pros: great location
Great Steak great time, better then most steakhouses around

This is the way a perfect meal and service should be. Even though it is pricey it is worth every penny. Flawless service and delicious food in a palace setting. fron the second you walk in to the exit you are treated like royalty. I am a foodie and a regular at numerous celebrity chef restaurants, but this was my first time at Michael Jordan's. I have read the reviews and the awards "Best Restaurant in the World" "Best Restaurant of the Year" "Top Chef" crazy busy, and I was curious to see if the restaurant is what it is. I was not disappointed. The food was excellent, and the presentation divine. The service is top notch and the decor is spectacular. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion, and a romantic night, or a smart business deal. Whatever you decide, it is worth checking out. Just bring your Amex! It is worth every penny you spend.
Worst, and most uncomfortable, Dining Experience in a lifetime
by robertsa
This was the worst dining experience I've ever had at this level of 'fine dining'. The waiter was intrusive, pushy, over-bearing, insulting, and downright rude trying to embarrass my dinner partner. We ordered wine at OUR price range, in the $40's, which was closer to $5 retail - so that's already an 80% markup. The waiter kept INSISTING on recommending his wine and OF COURSE went straight for the $275 bottles, attempting to EMBARASS my dinner partner for having picked out an affordable choice of wine for us. When we did order before dinner cocktails instead of a bottle, he said, oh are you sure you won't have wine with those fabulous steak - (as if the horror of horrors had just been committed)- shall I go ahead and recommend a wine so I can uncorck it for you. NO, MOVE AWAY FROM OUR TABLE, LEAVE US ALONE UNLESS WE ASK FOR SOMETHING. It was like being hi-jacked, and in hind-sight we both would have gotten up to leave. HALF HOUR AFTER BEING SEATED WE FINALLY GOT OUR DRINKS.
And it didn't stop there, 'no greens?' was the song sung the moment we ordered our dinner. NO, NO GREENS, IF WE WANTED GREENS WE WOULD HAVE ORDERED THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Maitre D had to come and apology to the table of 6 next to us, because of this watier's OBNOXIOUS haggling interfeirence with the enjoyment of everyone's dining experiences. This is a fine restaurant, NOT A USED CAR SHOP!
I will never set foot, to offer one more dime of my hard earned money, or for that matter, a CHA'CHING, FAT, FAT, FAT, JUICY FAT, EXPENSE ACCOUNT , to these fools.
- Pros: The decor, only, nothing more.
- Cons: everything but the decor
