Slug in food
by nycreviewer1
This is my first ever review for a restaurant, but after a terrible experience at dishes, I felt compelled to take the time to leave it.
I was at dishes today to pick up an order of their asian noodle soups (something I've ordered and enjoyed before). Returned to work, opened up the salad portion of the order and was shocked and disgusted to find a live (and moving) 2 inch-long slug in it!!!
This horrible experience will probably put me off Dishes permanently, but I wanted to share my experience as a caution to other Citysearch readers.
The worst service in NY
by shshkp
I have been here a few times. The food is adequate, but it doesn't make up for the inexcusable lack of customer service. I gave the cashier a twenty for my food and she typed in ten and then argued with me about it when I told her she was incorrect with the change. There was someone in line who saw this and when I tried to address it with the manager he was useless and acted like he could care less. Disgusting behavior.
- Pros: Food ok
- Cons: The cashiers and the manager are EXTREMELY rude
Great food....deplorable service!
by rstanley568
Every once in awhile I treat myself to lunch at Dishes. I agree with the other reviews - the food is unique, fresh, delicious and plentiful...although expensive worth every penny! However, the service there is the absolute worst in the neighborhood - possibly the city. My favorite moment recently was when I chose my food, PAID for it and sat down in the back. Only to have a manager abruptly come over to me and accuse me (didn't ask or request to see a receipt) of stealing the food. I promptly presented my receipt and he huffed away - no apology or pleasantries exchanged!!! Guess I am a glutten for punishment because I have since returned. My question is that if these horrible things are being reported on a public website, why aren't the owners doing anything about it? It has gotten worse since it opened - not better...shame on you for your arrogance and as the economy wanes you will find that service along with quality food will keep your customers and that people will no longer put up with your abusive staff!!
- Pros: Food quality
- Cons: People that work there

by mrcrab12

SAUNA PLACE
First time there and HORRIBLE customer service
by CrystalH75
I went there on my lunch hour on the enthusiastic recommendation of a co-worker. I went to get on line for soup and there was no one at the soup station. So I went to the adjoining station and informed the staff about this. So they sent another staff person to man the soup station -- and despite my attempts to get his attention so that I can order my soup, he ignored me. Took other folks' orders after me. Basically left me there standing.
I finally told him, in English AND Spanish, that I had been waiting and why was he ignoring me? He finally took my order.
It's a shame because their food is very delicious, their soups unique. But the rude disrespectful behavior of the staff cuts the overall quality of this establishment.
- Pros: Unique and delicious food choices
- Cons: Rude staff; sub-par service
Worst "Bubble Tea" ever
by Milan1980
Dishes' version of Bubble Tea is chopped canned fruit, canned fruit syrup, huge ice cubes, and medium sized tappioca pearls. It cost me $4.50 for one small sized cup. Do NOT recommend if you're looking for good Bubble Tea.
- Pros: Modern decor, convenient location.
- Cons: Bubble Tea is a miss.
DONE WITH THIS PLACE FOR GOOD!
by talluhla
I am just done with Dishes. Been going since they opened - yes they have delicious food - but the service is GOD AWFUL and the jerks that go in there...I don't know who is worse. The "entitled little Park Avenue you know whats" or the cashiers that scream NEXT ...step over...NEXT...step over...! Everyday I get the same thing in my salad and EVERYDAY the price various. Because no one can add or speak english for that matter.
Done with that place. They just lost a lot of business!
- Pros: Unique Salad Bar
- Cons: RUDE-CROWDED-WAYYYYY OVERPRICED - terrible Park Avenue Men
NEVER NEVER GO HERE IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE
by Mia395
Today I have finally lost any desire to return to Dishes. I work right across the street and constantly go here for convienience. This place is sooo overpriced you actually cringe when checking out sometimes. However, the boys behind the counter specifically one is constantly rude to me. The last time he was rude I called him out on it and asked if I had offended him, he replied no. I left counter with salad and put it in the cooler and left without lunch. This time same guy, same crapy service. I asked for blue cheese he gave me literally a scrapping of it when i asked for a little more he actually gave me an additional crumb. Grabbed the salas turned around put in cooler and left. This time NEVER< NEVER to return. They are undoubtably the rudest staff arount DO NOT GO if you have any other options. Salads generally range from 950-16.00 depending on how little you want. Dont go there is you want more then 3 things in your salad b/c it will cost a small fortune. I have to say I am a customer who is NEVER rude NEVER mean spirited and ALWAYS considerate of the people who have to wait on me for a living. I ALWAYS smile and ALWAYS say thank you, I REFUSE to be treated this way when I am paying this much for lettuce.
- Pros: A lot of options for salad
- Cons: RUDE RUDE RUDE STAFF OVERPRICED!!!!!!!!
Worst Service Ever
by gretchl2000
I can forgive overpriced food and long lines, but I cannot forgive horrible customer service. Not only do the staff rush you through your order, but they don't listen and even the managers are unaccommodating! I have been to dishes on 45th several times, and each time my order has been wrong and/or I have had the rudest counter and cashier service I have experienced in mid-town Manhattan (and THAT is saying something). I will NEVER go to this establishment again, not only because I paid $8 for miso soup that tastes like salt water (I can get better soup for $2 around the corner) but also because of the horrifying customer service. I would never recommend this deli to anyone.
- Pros: Large selection
- Cons: Overpriced, horrible staff and service, too crowded
Super healthy, super delicious!
by ava713
This place totally rocks. The menu choices are healthy, numerous, and fresh. I come to NYC on business regularly and I will walk the 8 blocks from my hotel to get breakfast and even lunch whenever time allows. Yum!
- Pros: Lots of variety, fresh, and so far - everything's been delicious
- Cons: Wicked crowded at lunchtime, not cheap - but you get what you pay for!
