Classy Spot
by adross1
Been to the Palm Too several times and every time it was great.
Pick a steak, any steak, they're all tasty.
Wait staff is old school and very personable...and they know the wine list very well. On several occasions they have given me outstanding "value" picks.
NYC Steakhouses all seem to be chasing the same masculine expense account clientele, and Palm Too is no exception. However, I have to say that the dining room in this place is particularly good for families celebrating a special occasion (a nice place for sure, but not stuffy at all).
- Pros: Steak, Wine List, Waiters
- Cons: Crowded
Great steaks and awesome desserts too
by ny516
Palm Too has been one of my favorites for quite sometime now. I always enjoy the steaks, lobsters, and side dishes (especially the potatoes). True there's nothing special about the decor and it's certainly not a romantic spot, but it's an old school steakhouse with good food and underrated desserts (cheesecake, chocolate cake). On another note: Yeah it's a bit pricey but lets face it, it's New York and quality doesn't come cheap.
- Pros: Great food, good prices for lunch
- Cons: Can get crowded on busy nights
Great for Business lunch!
by gfav
work in the Grand Central area, by far the best lunch in town for just $20 bucks! The filet mignon is good, not the best, but good. With the lunch special you get a salad, main course and a slice of cake. The lobster salad and Steak salad are the best I've had. Very crowded and noisy, quick sitting for lunch. Staff can be a little rude but prompted. Staff was also on the geriatic side, but perhaps they were the first to work there when the restuarant opened. The decor is a tad tacky, with cartoon celebs on the walls, but historical at the same time. To sum it up great for lunch!
- Pros: cheap high end eat
- Cons: decor
The Palm's sibling steakhouse, just across the street.
by Contributor
The Scene
The walls are adorned with celebrity caricatures, which is surely a metaphor: the whole place is a caricature of the original Palm. Built in 1973 to catch the overflow from the original, which dates to 1926 and is just across the street, Palm Too is still second best. Though some prefer it for its more spacious and comfortable environs, the die-hards and heavy-hitters choose the original.
The Food
This place puts out a good-enough steak, and the double steak--an extra-thick New York strip sliced and served for two--is noteworthy. But with so many similarly B-level steakhouses clustered in Midtown, it's hard to understand why there's often a wait to get in. Stick to the steakhouse basics, such as tomato and onion salad, shrimp cocktail, crabmeat cocktail, and New York strip, and you'll do well enough. Steer clear of the attempts at non-steakhouse fare. Lobsters are big and beautiful, but often over-cooked.
Old Reliable

Still a great steakhouse. Loud, Proud, and still draws a crowd. The Palm Too is a place where carnivores come with expense accounts in hand, and ravage through some steaks without having to pay for them. Sure, its loud and sure its crowded, but this is the charm of the place. If you don't like it, don't come. For that matter, stay away from Sparks, Angelo&Maxies, and all the other steakhouses.
good, but crowded

i ate here for the first time last weekend. the staff was knowledgeable and friendly. the tuna steak cooked rare was heavenly and the mashed potatoes tasted home-made.
- Pros: friendly, knowledgeable staff
- Cons: crowded
A TREAT TO EAT
by HBK520
WHAT A STEAKHOUSE IS SUPPOSED TO BE!! FROM STEAK TO LOBSTER TO MONDAY NIGHT SALAD TO SIDE DISHES-A FEAST FIT FOR A KING!
- Pros: SERVICE, FOOD
not the best
by nony
seating was slow and the host was beyond rude. the steak was good but not the best i have tasted. the sidedishes were nothing spectacular. The decor was tacky and very far from grand like some of the other steakhouses in the city.
steak city
by rontak
had another memorable dinner at the palm. have become a regular. steaks are always delicious, unlike some of the other city steak houses. the staff gets a bad rap that dates back to the 70's(hey zagats, lets let it go).
also have a 19.99 lunch special with decent sized steaks. theyre chicken ceasar might be the best in the city.
Succulent Dining

A truely fine dining experience! The quality of the service is only surpassed by the quality of the food. The price may be a little steep, but quality is not cheap.
- Pros: Food, Service
- Cons: Crowded, Parking
