I wish I could say that I was drunk or really depressed but I cheated on Gabriel when I was out of town. I think it was the air in L.A. that got to me- but I cheated. I went to one of those new hot salons and when I got back to the hotel room my husband asked if I had gotten caught in the Santa Anna Winds. HA HA. I figured that when I got back to NY and got a woman's point of view it would be fine. I went to see my best friend whom I thought would comfort me and tell me it wasn't that bad. Wrong!! She asked why I would knowingly venture from perfection and that maybe Gabriel could fix it. Fix it? I told her there was no way I was going to let him see me until it grew out. After 10 days of misery, I finally gave in and called. I told the receptionist of my drama. She assured me not to be embarrassed and that they refer to Gabriel as "The Cleaner" because he salvages horrible cuts all the time. When I arrived, Gabriel laughed off my transgression and proceeded to return me to my wonderful flirtatious hair. Gorgeous Gabriel, thanks and I promise never to stray again!

Pros: Amazing cuts each and every time

Cons: Can't live without Gabriel

I had heard great things about Gabriel so I had decided to make an appointment with him since I needed an updated look. I told him that I wasn't sure what I was looking for exactly but i wanted a low maintenance haircut and something a bit more chic. He gave me blunt bangs like every other stylist I have ever been to. I had asked for a slight trim of the bangs because I think blunt bangs look terrible on me. He also gave me a hairstyle which makes me look like a grandma and now i have to constantly blowdry it and use a flat iron. I rarely ever blowdry my hair nor do i own a flat iron. but now I must purchase a flat iron to make my hair somewhat presentable. Gabriel was really sweet but now I keep my hair back in a pony tail because it looks terrible on me. I waited a week to let the cut settle but it has not gotten any better.

Pros: Gabriel was very nice

Cons: Hair cut did not fit me

Shear Genius-GABRIEL****** Why am I a boomerang to this haircutter? Because I am always respected and my wishes are granted. Gabriel is the Shear Genius. Each cut I get reveals a new me. And he has no problem if I fall in love with a certain style to keep the cut until I say I need a new look. This shear genius consults with me, then I let him have at it. The result is a terrific style every time. He even touches me up between appointments without charge. My hair is non-negotiable and every cut I get from Gabriel is a terrific investment in how I look. And it's way cheaper and quicker than therapy. Gabriel, your boomerang will be back soon!

Pros: Gabriel and a wonderful support staff.- It's like a vacation!

Cons: That I have to leave!

I was desperate to find a salon in the city that gave me a style.. not just a cut. I looked everywhere and asked everyone for their advice.. I looked here on citysearch for a hair salon and was moved by all the really great reviews. I was excited to get an appointment with Johnny, but then as the appointment got closer.. I started to get really nervous for no real reason except that I've had one too many bad experiences when trying out a new stylist. Johnny was AWESOME!! He was so calm and explained everything to me at every step. The end result was PERFECT! It's just what I needed. I am the happiest I have ever been with my hair. Johnny is definitely an artist with hair but he's also sincere and keeps your personality and wants in mind while coming up with your personal style. I completely recommend Johnny!!

Pros: Johnny, atmosphere

Cons: expensive

DO YOU WANT ALL YOUR HAIR WISHES TO COME TRUE? GABRIEL IS THE GENIE TO GRANT IT!! WHILE HE JOKINGLY WILL TELL YOU THAT HIS COMB IS NOT A MAGIC WAND-I BEG TO DIFFER- HE GAVE ME A MAGAZINE STYLE HAIRCUT THAT MADE ME FEEL LIKE A COVERGIRL FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE. NOW I WAITED TO WRITE THIS REVIEW TO SEE IF IT WAS A FLUKE BUT AFTER 3 CUTS HE HAS CONFIRMED HIS TRUE WIZARD STATUS! THE FIRST TIME I HEARD ABOUT GABRIEL, WAS WHEN I WAS LUCKY TO BE BACKSTAGE AT A BON JOVI CONCERT. THERE WAS THIS GIRL THERE WITH HAIR THAT I WAS COVETING. MY BOYFRIEND, AN ACTOR, KNEW HER AS A WARDROBE STYLIST FOR THE S@X IN THE CITY MOVIE. HE INTRODUCED US AND I RAVED ABOUT HER CUT. SHE TOLD ME THAT HAD DISCOVERED GABRIEL ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO FROM OTHER FASHION STYLISTS IN THE CITY. SHE SAID THAT ALTHOUGH HE WAS TALL, DARK AND MORE THAN HANDSOME, HE WAS THE GREATEST HAIRSTYLIST THAT SHE HAD BEEN TO. THE FOLLOWING WEEK I PHONED AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT. . AFTER HIS ASSISTANT SAT ME IN HIS CHAIR, GABRIEL APPEARED AND MY HEART SKIPPED A BEAT. THIS GUY WAS GORGEOUS AND A ROCKER!!!! WE CONSULTED ABOUT WHAT I WANTED- WHICH I REALLY DIDN’T KNOW SINCE I WAS IN A REAL HAIRSTYLE SLUMP-GABRIEL HAD SUCH GREAT ENERGY AND PUT ME AT EASE THAT I WAS CONFIDENT IN LETTING HIM DO WHAT HE SUGGESTED. 45 MINUTES LATER I FELT REBORN. MY NEW HAIR WAS EDGY BUT NOT CRAZY, GLAM BUT DOABLE BY SOMEONE WHO DOESN’T HAVE TREMENDOUS PATIENCE IN THE MORNING. HOWEVER, FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I WAS A KID, I NOW HAD BANGS. I ASKED HIM HOW TO CUT THEM WHEN THEY GOT TOO LONG AND GABRIEL TOLD ME THAT WHENEVER I NEEDED THEM TRIMMED IN BETWEEN CUTS, JUST CALL AND HE WOULD DO IT FOR FREE. WHAT A SWEETHEART!! TRUE TO HIS WORD, HE HAS AND HE HAS NEVER MADE ME FEEL LIKE IT WAS AN IMPOSITION. I LOVE THE TIME I SPEND WITH HIM (I ENVY HIS GIRLFRIEND) BUT EVEN MORE I ADORE THE WAY MY HAIR LOOKS. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND MAKE YOUR OWN WISHES COME TRUE- GO TO GABRIEL.

Pros: gabriel's skill patience talent

Cons: none

Today, I had the best haircut of my life. I’ve serviced many top salons in the city and most of the time, walked out disappointed. Johnny changed all that. Firstly, a comment about the dry cut experience – it’s off the hook! It was my first time getting one and I loved it! Johnny explained the principle to me before he started cutting and put me at ease. I showed him a picture of the cut I wanted and explained to him that I loved the cut and wanted my hair to someone resemble it - he did one better – I actually liked it better than the picture when I left. Johnny clearly explained that the cut is was matters throughout the experience not having you leave with a style you can’t recreate the next day– and what an amazing experience it was to see my hair transform into something edgy, precise, and exactly what I wanted. A bit about Johnny – he is truly an artist. Many stylist call themselves artists but Johnny emanates it. He is totally edgy and funky and looks like a rock star in appearance but yet down to earth and connects with you immediately when talking about your hair. You can see how seriously he takes you as a client and becomes absorbed in his work as an artist when cutting your hair. Don’t care about the cost when considering. It’s the best investment you can make for yourself. I’m lined up for highlights next week. A comment about that as well – Santino- another amazing artist (check him out on their website)– was kind enough to test a piece of my hair to make sure I liked it before my upcoming appointment. I was blown away by that. Having the attention of 4 people over a test highlight made me feel like a rock star too! Santino showed genuine interest making sure I will be happy with my highlights! The salon is truly an experience and it was fun as well. Thanks Johnny! You rock!

Pros: Beautiful salon, and Johnny!

Cons: not finding this salon sooner

Frank changed my life. He's the senior colorist at John Sahag, knows his color and how it interacts with hair and explains the process thoroughly. Frank is a genius with hair color and is also very down-to-earth and attentive. He understands my fine, mousey brown hair and makes it looks beautiful every time with depth and shine. If I want to tweak it a bit, he gets it. If I want to go too far, he talks me back down to earth. I get compliments on my hair color all the time (even from other hair stylists) and feel younger every time I leave the workshop. I recently decided to go short and got a cut from Johnny. He did fabulous wash and go style. I never have to style my hair anymore. Frank and Johnny are an amazing combo.

Pros: Knowlegable, yet creative staff. Relaxing and spacious atmosphere.

Cons: none

After reading positive reviews on Citysearch, I made an appointment with Gabriel at the John Sahag Workshop. I was not disappointed - it was without question the best haircut I've ever had and I am now a regular. Even if I moved to Hawaii, I'd travel to have my hair cut by Gabriel and, in fact, there are people who travel great distances to see him. He has given me a short, modern haircut that looks feminine and stylish but requires absolutely no effort at all. I shower and run a comb through my hair and I'm ready to go. How many women can say that? There really is something to the whole process of the dry cut, as well as the fact that Gabriel spends a full hour doing a very thorough job which is reflected in a fabulous cut. Gabriel is charming, as is everyone else who works at the salon especially the girls at the front desk. I love the fact that they allow plenty of time for each appointment and you never feel rushed. This is also true of the colorists - based on my positive experience with Gabriel, I recently had highlights with Frank who did an outstanding job and I will be going back to him regularly. They are all consummate professionals at John Sahag and reasonably priced by Manhattan standards.

OK--not yet but anytime now. And then it will be impossible to book an appointment with him. I am not connected in any way to the salon or Johnny but am a former longtime beauty editor for a national magazine and have worked with almost every famous celeb stylist (including John Sahag himself who has also cut and styled my hair). Since I have switched careers, I no longer have the access that I previously had, so I have booked appointments all over the city at major (and minor salons) to attempt to find the quality cut that I am used to. NO success until I happened upon Johnny at John Sahag Salon. He is a precisioned cutter and a true artist who understands individual hair growth patterns and not since Sam McKnight (eventually Princess Diana's stylist and previously dozens of other top celebrities) have I seen such talent. Beyond that, he is a hoot to be with and a total gentleman. My advise it to get him while you can! I have short hair and most accredited stylist's give me a textbook cut ("ladies who lunch" type) that sends me into fits of internal agony and force me to take a scissor to my own hair. Johnny corrected, designed and crafted a cut for me that made me feel 10 years younger and was the look I had been searching for since I left my editor-privileged days. Don't think twice about the cost.

Pros: Talented staff

Cons: Salon decor ready for a makeover

Expect these haircuts to take twice as long as what you're used to--but they're definitely worth the time and money.
