Living on location alone
by tbrax
The location is great of course, but the food is not. For $18 I had expected that the hamburger would at least be decent, but I was wrong. Several fish entrees were overcooked and smelled anything but fresh, the portions were small and the prices were big.
There were lots of beautiful people floating around the place, but clearly their priorities are to see and be seen rather than to eat a decent meal.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Poor food for rich prices
The perfect spot!
by NY32
Host, Tom Ferritti is one of the most accomodating and friendly New Yorkers! The food is FANTASTIC and the location is perfect. Too often, it's difficult to find the perfect combo.
- Pros: Food, service, location, environment
- Cons: None.
great atmosphere
by 24mwebb
I made a reservation here for my husband's birthday. It was wonderful! Our reservation was for 8:15, after sunset. We chose to sit outside. The view of the city skyline and the park all lit up was so romantic. We had our infant daughter with us and I was a little worried about taking her to such a swank place. But the staff were all very complementary and accomodating. The menu was fantastic! We had a cheese platter for an appetizer and both had the filet minon for an entree. The desserts were also terrific. The creme brulee was to die for! Overall, a wonderful experience. Would highly recommend it to others.
- Pros: great atmosphere and views
- Cons: menu is a little pricey, but worth it.
Horrible waiters
by aforster78
I went here for my birthday with 6 friends. The waiter acted as if we were bothering him when we needed to order. I had the Penne Primevera and I've had better sauce out of a jar of spaghettio's! My friend's reported that the steak was decent. I would not recommend this restaurant because of the staff and the food.
- Pros: Beautiful restaurant
- Cons: Everything else
A leafy setting overlooking the stunning midtown commons.

The Scene
Grafted onto the New York Public Library in midtown's leafy Bryant Park, this sunny and spacious restaurant draws mostly seasonal tourists and weekday business lunchers. The New American menu includes everything from crab cakes to a yellowfin tuna salad to grilled chicken, and there are many fresh-tossed Mediterranean pastas to choose from. The tables come along with a view: Floor-to-ceiling windows face the well-tended, people-packed park.
Food average, ambience nice
by gripdxd1
I went here with some tourists, the ambience is inviting and it's a nice place to have a drink. If your eating, the food is very ordinary (nothing special) definitely way overpriced. You have to wait for table, but we got seated and were served nicely. I say come for a drink, enjoy the view and outdoor atmosphere, but don't expect to be wowed or overjoyed. It's a good place to mix and mingle.
- Pros: Nice Outdoor Drinking Atmosphere
- Cons: Overpriced
Not so touristy

Just got back from another great meal with fantastic service and one of my all time favorite summer spots, the Bryant Park Grill. We were a party of seven, it was a beautiful night and after five bottles on wine this place was nothing but great. Oh and the plus side...for all you "but I only smoke when I drink" people, it's probably one of the last restaurants in the city that still lets you enjoy a "once in a while" cigarette while sipping your wine in the great outdoors!
A lot of hype, no service for the price
by negary
I took a couple clients to the Grill recently. We were to meet at the outdoor bar but it was ridiculously crowded with people actually elbow to elbow and no way to get to the bar. We decided to have dinner at the Grill. On the outside, it looked like a nice place o eat outdoors on a beautiful spring evening. Howefver, the food was so-so and a bit overpriced and the service poor. In fact, the waiter was not skilled at all and he appeared to be stressed out. He kept abruptly interrupting our conversation and looked more like he was in a hurry to turn the table than serve us. A place like this at these prices should hire quality staff. Again the food was just OK...
- Pros: location, outdoor setting
- Cons: wait staff, food, price
Sunday brunch bit pricey considering...
by yippee1999
For the record, I've no problem with taking myself out for a $100 brunch buffet, so long as the service, ambiance and food are plentiful and of a high quality. I've gone to such brunches on many occasions. So I am not being "cheap" when I say that the $26 prix fixe brunch at Bryant Park Grill was not worth it IMHO. All you get for $26 is a choice of one entree (fancy french toast, omelette, etc.), a complimentary "average" pastry basket and a drink (champagne, orange juice - not fresh-squeezed, etc.) While the location and ambiance sure are nice, I found the price a bit expensive considering the quality of the food was nothing spectacular.
- Pros: location, ambiance
- Cons: price
Keep your money in your wallet
by city_critter
Came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Great ambience and pleasant surroundings but the food and service were mediocre at best. I've had much better of both at far cheaper establishments. The sauce in my penne with baby shrimp (~$19) was on par with what I'd find in a jar at the local grocery store. My friend had the five cheese ravioli (six pieces of ravioli for ~$20), which he described as average and far from worth the money. All in all, the ambience does not make the prices worthwhile. You leave with an uneasy feeling knowing that you definitely did not get your bang for your buck here.
- Pros: Great ambience
- Cons: High prices, Unimpressive dishes
